It seemed like a lifetime ago that she had fallen in love with someone she thought she would have married. Marriage scared her. Being bound to a person for a lifetime in her experience was, at best, a nightmare waiting to happen. But that was before. She had lived through so much since then and until the words had come out of her mouth, she hadn’t realized how strongly she wanted a life with Johann. they already had one, sure, but she wanted more, and knowing that he wanted the same thing made it ten times better.
So knowing that, Vora happily kissed him some more until the lift door slipped open and someone moved to enter. Vora was startled and could feel her cheeks warm, but she still couldn’t fully wipe the smile off her face as she tied to resume some sort of professional demeanour, even though she and Johann were both currently off-duty.

Johann knew he was off duty, and decided he was going to act accordingly.
“Hi,” he said to the new person in the lift as it started to move again. “This is my fiancée. We just decided to get married. That’s why we were making out. I’m completely sober.”

How she managed bit to burst out laughing, Vora had no idea, but she did and instead gave a wide smile.
The man in an operations uniform looked them both over and then simply gave a nod. “Uh, right, uh, congratulations,” he said.
“We’re good at sex,” Johann appended gratuitously.
She barely managed to choke down a laugh, but in the end Vora managed it. But random-guy-in-turbolift actually sputtered a bit a started coughing. “Oh dear,” Vora said, “Are you okay?” The man nodded and tried to ignore the clearly happy couple.
I’m a horrible person for enjoying that, Johann thought.
Vora turned to Johann. “For the record, I’m okay with a small thing. It doesn’t have to be a huge deal. Unless… you want it to be?” she said slowly, trying to gauge where his mind was at.

“Oh, no. I’d totally want it to be a small thing…” he said easily enough, until he stopped like a deer caught in headlights.
“Though… my… mother… might… have… a differing opinion.”
There was a noticeable sigh at the end of that statement.

The lift came to a stop and the rather embarrassed operations office stepped off… hurriedly.
Slipping her hand into Johann’s and leaning in close, she gazed at the man she loved. “Right. I figured you might want them to be there. For me, It’s Deacon, Cassidy, Clint and Steven, because he’s with Cass. If I didn’t think it’d be too complicated and we had time to get them here, I’d say, why wait? Let’s get married tomorrow. And only because Deacon will only be around till then and who knows if we’ll be able to coordinate him coming. But It’s important we include your parents and this is about us, not just me. We’ve been together a long time now. I can wait a bit longer to get married. I mean, in the meantime, there’s always moving in together, right?”
Lt. (j.g) Zorell, Sciences
“Yeah, I guess if we’re engaged. Honestly I have to read up on the rules about that. I’m somewhat old fashioned in that I’ve never really been a fan of that before marriage.”
He let out another sigh. It was as if the excitement from a moment ago had evaporated completely.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to be a downer but… well… I have to admit something to you.”
He breathed in slightly before continuing. “I haven’t actually told my parents much about you.”
“I mean… it’s not about you… it’s just… well… My mother… umm… wants me to do well in this particular area of life. So… when there’s something for her to know, she… uhhh… well… she gets very… excited… let’s say. And that can be very… difficult… to deal with. So I usually deal with it by simply never discussing the topic any time we talk.”
“My father knows more. I can tell him pretty much anything. I often do. But, my mother is going to be very… surprised. And I think it’s mostly going to be pleasant, but you might find it… awkward… at least at first.”
