She was having a harder time with the people on the smaller ship than she’d thought she would. That was what got Lake to reserve some time on the holodeck. There she could surround herself with people while doing something that she enjoyed. When she entered, she inserted an information stick into the interface and called up one of her favorite programs. Immediately the black and yellow grid changed into a supper club of the 1940s. Crystal, chandeliers and tables set with linens and china were set up in a U shape

Chandeliers and candles lit the large room, giving it an intimate atmosphere. A slightly raised stage sat at the open end of the U, and a small orchestra played music from the era. Men in suits or tuxedos accompanied women in semi formal or formal dresses, making a very good looking clientele. There was the hum of conversation and laughter, the clinking of crystal glasses and the staccato of cutlery as the holo audience went about their programming.

Lake stood off stage waiting for her introduction. Even knowing the audience wasn’t real, she still felt a flurry of butterflies in her stomach as she prepared herself to sing what history referred to as ‘torch’ songs.
