Va’rek pressed the chime button, then clasped his hands behind his back, waiting for admittance.

He was tall and rather lank, but his appearance was polished and professional. His new uniform was pressed and gold in color, denoting his status as an engineer. His hair was worn in the traditional fashion on top but was faded shorter at the back and sides in a more military manner. Both his hair and eyes were dark, contrasting his pale pallor. However, his expression remained serene. Unruffled.

Siennadye walked up behind the new engineer, smiling. “My apologies Lieutenant. I was doing a painting therapy session and it ran a little long.” She was covered in an apron that had paint splotches all over it. Her uniform was dotted with paint as well. There were a few bits in her hair and one white dash across the right side of her forehead. The door to her office opened as she approached. Her office was cheerful and comfortable. There were splashes of color and a relaxed atmosphere. “Come on in and get yourself something to drink and some water for me please.”

The Vulcan registered surprise briefly, though his outward response was a series of micro-expressions leading up one eyebrow rising slightly as he turned to meet Siennadye. “No apology is warranted, Counselor,” Va’rek replied politely as he followed her into the office space.

She took off her apron and placed it on a hanger to dry. Inspecting her pants, she found them relatively clean, but her tunic was worse for the wear, so she took it off to reveal the sleeveless blouse underneath in sciences blue. Satisfied that she was less of a disaster, she turned to the sitting area. It had a couch facing two chairs with a nice coffee table between them. She took a seat on the couch.

As Siennadye moved to hang her apron, Va’rek stepped over to the replicator and prepared two glasses of water. The Vulcan then set the glasses on the coffee table and seated himself in one of the chairs facing the couch. “Do you often pair the arts with therapy techniques?” He asked, intrigued.

-Va’rek, Eng

She smiled and took the glass of water, downing half of it before replacing it on the table. She had worked up a thirst with her patient and had not realized until she started drinking, just how much she had needed the water. SIenna nodded. “I suppose I do. Honestly, I find that having a wide variety of therapy techniques helps more than it hinders. What someone may need and what speaks to them may be different than what you need and what speaks to you. I have the entirety of this ship to cater to. No one person is like another. Why should my therapy not be as varied?”

The Vulcan’s brows rose as he considered her point and found it to be quite satisfactory. “A logical conclusion, Counselor. Though I often find most forms of art illicit emotional responses to which I am unaccustomed to allowing myself to appreciate.” He almost smiled wryly but allowed only the ghost of the expression to show. “I am sure you understand.”

-Va’rek, Eng

Sienna grinned. “Of course I do Va’rek. However, most of the ship is made up of non-Vulcans and emotions are very important in how they handle certain things. Art is a way of expressing in a manner that is not direct but still gives the artist the emotional break needed. Is there such an equivalent therapy for Vulcans do you think?” She knew of several, but she wondered if Va’rek knew of some or had a preference to one for future needs.
