“I have the system on sensors,” Vora announced. “There’s one planet that has a reasonable atmosphere. L-class. Not exactly idyllic, but doable for a short period of time. The only issue I’m worried about is the system’s F-Type star. the amount of radiation output it’s giving off and the distance the planet is in the system means that any surviving crew would likely be suffering form radiation poisoning. But hard to extrapolate the exact rates without knowing what sort of protections they’ve sought.”

“We’ll head there at warp speed as soon as they’re done on Tian Am Men,” the Captain thought aloud. “What kind of radiation is it? Anything that could hide that mercenary ship that’s somewhere loose out there?”

We’d better alert the rest of the fleet, assuming we can get enough data to identify that ship…

Vora frowned. “Gamma radiation. Looks like secondary radiation created in the atmosphere. It’s unlikely the ship would be hiding out, but there are three large gas giants in the system that might provide cover. We should tread cautiously.”

“Certainly,” Johann thought aloud, as he weighed his options.

Would they even still be here? he thought. We don’t know enough for this to make sense, so we have to assume the answer is “Yes” until we know something else.

“Where’s the nearest ship that’s part of the search party?”

“Both the Fermi and the Brahe are both in adjacent sections of the grid, but the Fermi is about two hours closer,” Vora reported.

“Signal both of them with the location where we think Tian An Men’s crew is, and let’s have them form up with us at the earliest possiblity while en route. Let’s fly formation until we know where this other ship is.”
