“The idyllic turning into something on a pedestal made of pride you mean?” She thought about this concept and how it might apply to humans she had met. “I don’t know. The people of Star Fleet are typically given many examples of how things can be different but just as beautiful. I think arrogance is still a problem for many species, not just humanity. Superiority too. I think if Star Fleet didn’t exist, its accomplishments and exposure to new life and civilizations , the prime directive even, humanity would be insufferable. Betazoids by nature outside of our home are often intrusive, pushy, lax about boundaries and prideful. The only reason I am not is because of years of being a therapist and a doctor. Those tend to mellow our more base instincts, but not erase them completely as can be evidenced by my showing up last night.” She smiled warmly, resting her elbow on the table and her head on her hand. “Am I forgiven for being intrusive?”

Johann’s thoughts couldn’t help but linger on the words “base instincts” with a mix of curiosity and amusement as his occular implants took in Siennadye’s rather cute posture of genuflection for a few moments.

“I think I could forgive you… perhaps with some time and… acts of contrition…”

Sienna looked almost wounded for a moment, but it was definitely a playful artifice. She was enjoying Johann teasing her back. Perhaps it was her Betazoid nature, but teasing did come naturally and having someone who could give as good as they got piqued her interest. “Surely my positive attitude and genuine regret is enough, but I am too curious to stay away from ‘acts of contrition’.” Her look of wounded pride turned to a grin that was just as playful. “What might you have in mind?”

“Well…” There was a moment as if he was about to continue speaking, but seemed to abruptly stop himself. He quickly felt self conscious as he realized this was the first time in a long time that he seemed to be flirting with an attractive woman with some measure of success. Go for the gusto, he reflexively told himself.

“You’ll obviously need to perform a series of them, to be sure. Penitence is after all very important and requires… exercise… lest absolution be acquired too cheaply and your spiritual healing not be complete. Asking for forgiveness is a good start but I’m thinking next perhaps we should maybe have… a… pilgrimage… in a setting appropriate for contemplation. Like… say… a walk along a nice beach at night on a warm and mostly uninhabited planet. Or a simulation of one. The setting can be holographic, but your presence and contrition of course must be genuine, and since I don’t have your ability to… uh… ‘intrude’ on your ‘boundaries’, as you put it… you’ll have to give a demonstration.”
