Mathys had remained quiet. His folded fingers pressed tightly to his lips while he digested the information. However, a subtle hardness surfaced into his eyes. He didn’t like the idea of the Cortallo. Vora’s retelling of their reputation reminded him of pirates. His pursed lips released a breath, soothing the conflict raging in his head. The overwhelming emotions began to quiet down. He hoped she was right, but his instinct didn’t agree. One thing about groups that maintain control, they were ruthless when it came to keeping it. All it took was one person to rise before others began to fight.

“I would suggest a TTE communication device as an emergency back up, but I’m not sure it’s allowed. Especially with the restrictions mentioned earlier. I will admit, the flash bombs in my office are looking more tempting, the more I learn.” His tone was lighter with the last sentence, indicating a slight joke.

“Sorry, I think I missed something,” the Captain said. “What exactly are the restrictions? We’re visiting a warp capable planet, right? Do they have some sort of local law that’s going to be a problem?”

Vora frowned and shook her head. “Not that I can think of. If you mean by restrictions Commander Ducote the precautions we’re taking because of Cortallo, those are unique to us and this situation. No other ship has had to worry about it. And honestly, the more we just go about our business and ignore Cortallo, the better. Not in actuality of course, but as far as they observe. Let’s not give them too much indication that we care about them at all.” Not the least because they had possible reason to be interested in her and she had zero interest in them.

Mathys looked from the CO to Vora, then decided to reply.

“Apologies, I misunderstood.” Once more the CE relaxed into his chair and said nothing more.

“It’s still a worthwhile precaution,” the Captain said.

“If anyone has any specific security concerns before you go down, just come find me and we’ll sort it out,” Abrams said matter-of-factly. She was happy to put things in place for some people if it would make them more comfortable, but she was still determined to make sure Cortallo wasn’t even on their minds.

“Any other questions I can answer?” Zorell asked. “Otherwise, anything I can’t means you’re in the same position of learning that I am and I guess we’ll just figure it out together.”

“So is there, like, someone we’re expected to meet first?” the Captain asked. “I imagine we’ll formally relieve Galileo and then have to coordinate with the local government. Do we have a particular contact there?”
