She took the time to listen and process what he was saying and nodded slowly. “That… makes sense. It would never have occurred to me to do that because my life was what I was. They all affected each other in equal measure.” She couldn’t have made the money to feed herself and feed her addiction if she hadn’t been an escort but she wouldn’t have been homeless if she hadn’t been addict. It had been a vicious cycle that had taken her being literally removed from the entirely situation before she could even begin a new life.

“But the situation is vastly different now. Each component of my life affects the others but not in a life or death sort of way. I’m not sure how I go about such a compartmentalization, but it’s something to think about,” she said softly.

“Each component of your life affects you,” Johann emphasized, trying to drive the point home. “It’s up to you to decide how much you let them affect other parts of your life. The first thing you have to do is realize that you are free to choose.”

Was she? Was she really free to choose? Some days, most days really, it didn’t feel that way. But wasn’t that the exact point he was trying to make? “Well then, I guess that will be the challenge I need to work on,” she said with a tiny smile.

Looking around the office for a moment, as if she were trying to decide something, her gaze finally settled back on Johann. She was always discreet and tried very hard to to confuse boundaries, but she was hoping this small transgression wouldn’t be minded too much. Reaching out, she gave his hand an affectionate squeeze. “I should go and let you do your work. Thank you,” Vora said sincerely, once again musing that one of the things she loved most about him and them as a couple were these deep talks they could have without worry. would he ever fully know how much he had helped her free herself from some of her crushing thoughts and learn to be happy in her life?
