For a moment Vora just considered him, her maroon eyes tracing his features. “Six weeks. Enough time for Tenra and whatever happens, however it goes, we get married then. Should be enough time for Deacon to arrange things on his end too. Sound good?”

He squinted as he thought about this, as though he was somehow looking through Vora’s head, into the wall of his (their?) quarters, and through the bulkheads into deep space just to see his calendar. It made sense… but…
“Make it seven,” he said. “Just for luck.”

Vora chuckled. “Fine. Seven it is. You just have to not ram the ship into anything between now and then,” she said with a completely teasing grin. Yes, the joke was still funny.
Johann rolled his ‘eyes.’ He only ordered that maneuver… well… actually… at least 4 times. But it had been a few years. Maybe more than a few years.
Rising from the chair, she leaned in and kissed Johann. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he said. “I’d actually better get to the Bridge.”
Vora moved off to go get dressed and ready for her ineveitable conversation with a father she had never known and still wasn’t fully sure she did. Her instincts said go for it, but experience made her wary of all Tenraith men, except her son. Goodness, Jerrin was a man now, wasn’t he? Her mind didn’t want to go down that line of thinking so instead she rehearsed how she might start a conversation with Kiero Roden.

Johann grabbed his uniform jacket off of the back of the chair and put it on, and promptly walked out of his quarters.
Our quarters, he thought, correcting the narrator. Because I’m actually getting married. As he walked down the corridor, he contemplated how that would have seemed completely unlikely to him when he took this assignment 10 years ago.
