“Basic, uh?” Mathys’ voice held a hint of amusement.

Johann nodded quickly with his eyes wide open, as if to agree with the amusement quite strongly.

He thought for a moment before he mused.

“I have a few projects he might like helping me on. It might give him a taste of other career paths or at least challenge him.”

Mathys then added, “Is there anything else Captain?”

“Not for now, I don’t think. We’re between assignments, and likely will be for several weeks, so if you want to take systems down for maintenance or run drills or anything like that just let me know and we can make that work.”

He seemed to think a bit more before asking “Is there anything you need from me?”

Mathys took a moment and reflected over the statement.

“Naw, I think I should get acquaint with the ship. She likely has a few things that need tending to and she’s been patient enough. It was nice to meet you, Captain. Don’t be a stranger.” Politely, the new CE flashed a smile and took his leave for duty.
