“Yeah,” she said absentmindedly before shaking herself out of her head. Vora blew out a breath. “You know, it’s not like I can’t find the information, it’s just… I never expected to. And after the disaster that the Hass family seems to be, I’m more than a little wary.” She snorted. “Did I tell you I learned that my grandfather was killed under some rather suspicious circumstances?”
“No, actually, you haven’t. Somehow it doesn’t surprise me.” One of these days, and probably one very soon, Johann was going to actually look up some objective data about Tenra as a planet. He was getting the (hopefully false) impression that it was in the running for the murder capital of the Alpha Quadrant.
Meanwhile, as she chatted, Vora brought up her access point to the Tenraith information portals. She had spent plenty of time in here thus far and so could navigate it easily. Of course, the fluid Ternaith script was not immediately translated unless she had the computer do so, but because of the breadth of information here she knew it would be easier to leave it as is, rather than split the screen for a translation. She could tell Johann if she found anything. “Computer, access Tenraith global portal and index census records with the name Kiero Rodel.”
=/\=Accessing… stand by.=/\=
Vora tipped her head up, closing her eyes and breathing deeply: a moment of reprieve in what was going to be nothing less than overwhelming of a day.
=/\=There are thirteen people with the name Kiero Roden.=/\=
How many people live on Tenra anyway? Johann thought. It seemed like an unusually low number of people for a planetary population.
“Isolate those born before…=/\= Vora pause to think about what made sense. =/\=2345.=/\=
=/\=Two individuals match the parameters.=/\=
Thirteen people, ever? It was even more puzzling. He didn’t know much about Tenraith naming, but he would have expected more repeats, unless the names “Kiero” or “Roden” were somehow novel. Novel like the custom of giving rings…
“Display.”
The two records popped up. “The first is definitely not him, well, unlikely, given that he died two years before I was born and was eighty-nine at the time. Uhhh, and the other, let’s see…”
Vora pulled up the image and sat back with a sharp inhale. Not so unlike how when she had first seen Jerrin again and it was hard to deny the similarities between him and her (despite Jerrin’s increasing likeness to Roquan each year that passed), Vora could not deny the man she saw. She wanted to open the biographical record but for the moment was transfixed by the man. The man with undeniably kind looking eyes.

“I like your nose better, but his is pretty close to yours,” Johann commented. “Similar eyes too, if you ignore the color. Unusually pleasant for an ID photo.” It was by no means not an objective assessment, but they couldn’t help but wonder.

Vora cast him a smile. “Yeah.” She pulled up the basic profile which seemed to be a complication of a bunch of very publicly accessible information. More than she expected without far more specific searches. “Okay, so Kiero Roden, born in 2340 to Fel Rodan and Jianna Fihr…”-one of her more colourful curses ensured-“of the prominent Roden family who is known for Orlai Enterprises, one of the largest conglomerates that controls thirty-five percent of the foodstuff production for Tenra.”
She tapped her hand on the desk. “I knew the name sounded familiar!” Her eyes were wide as she looked at Johann. “The head of the family, Fel Rodan was convicted of multiple high level frauds, which on Tenra are traditionally hard to prosecute successful. I remember it because when I was ten it was all over the news that he went to prison expecting to spend the majority of the rest of his life there. Apparently he died in 2392. But the son, their only heir, took over the company and tried to fix the myriad of problems his father’s management had caused. Johann, this company isn’t just massive and wealthy, but the family is long descended from chiefs of the Klief Clan. The Hass family is descended from the Pah-say Clan, who centuries ago were almost always at war with the Klief. It all makes sense.” So many pieces of the puzzle started to fall together in her mind.
“Sounds Shakespearean,” Johann said. Star crossed lovers… the Montagues and the Capulets… Though that particular story ended rather differently.
She blew out a breath and kept reading, translating as she went. “So this Kiero Roden runs the company, which seems to have kept itself out of trouble. He’s… divorced, oh… sad… and now a widow as of three years ago.” She inhaled sharply. “He has a son from his first marriage, Aimon Roden, born… 2372,” she whispered.
Vora barked a laugh. “I have a half brother who became an uncle when he was eight years old!” She sat back in her chair. “Wow…”

“So… does he then…” he stopped. This last detail seemed to unsettle Johann slightly. He was thinking all of this over and trying to understand the whole picture.
“Kiero Roden was not married to Jaisa Hass, alias Torya Zorrell. Aimon Roden is the son of Kiero Roden and another woman who is now deceased who is not Jaisa Hass. Aimon is 14 years your junior.”
“I hate to even start with this… but given that we know that Kiero Roden is extremely wealthy… how does inheritance work on this planet? Because that could add a significant level of danger here for you.” He hadn’t even started talking about the Hass family, a bunch of people that Vora had already decided she wanted little to do with.
