Chewing on a bit of croissant (her newest culinary find), Vora grabbed a glass of water and meandered over to his desk. She had to be on duty in a little bit, as did Johann, but she liked to check her messages beforehand to clear that task off her list. Logging in with her credentials, it was the usual notations about duty schedules, a question from a new junior scientist about procedures with regards to Astrometrics, and a personal message. She sipped from the water glass she held in her left hand.Vora blinked. It was from Tenra. But not Dr. Alkia
Frowning, it was surely an unexpected message from her uncle that she would once again read and delete, never to be replied to. He’d yet to give her a reason to trust him and she saw no reason for that to change.
Opening the message, her maroon eyes skimmed the message. A small gasp ensued. The glass slipped from her hand and hit the desk. It didn’t break, but water spilled everywhere. Her eyes darted between the message and the water, but she was frozen, unable to prioritize which situation was more important.

The clang of the glass captured Johann’s attention. Seeing the water spill all over his desk, which was covered in PADDs and other isolinear devices, he immediately sprung into action: a single leap brought him straight to the desk from the table, and he started wiping down everything immediately.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you freeze like that even when your life was in danger,” he commented idly. He didn’t read the screen closely, but he knew Vora was checking her messages. He had no idea what the message could have possibly said, but he immediately figured that it would have come from Tenra. Only baggage from Tenra can ruin our day, he thought.

Jolted into action, Vora helped to clear up the mess, her mind all the while whirling. He was right, normally she didn’t freeze. Her mind might be sucked back into a vivid memory, but that wasn’t the same as being unable to act upon the information in front of her. Heart beats and breaths filled the silence before she figured out what to say. “Someone found me. I don’t know how, which scares the hell out of me, but… they claim to recognize my description of my mother’s yellow topaz ring.” She looked up at Johann as she dried part of the desk . “Apparently this man gave Jaisa Hass the ring that he had custom made. But how did he find me here? I made sure that I didn’t write anything that suggested I was on a starship, so someone couldn’t go hunting for Tenraith working and living off-world. So that tells me he has connections. Probably power.” She stood up fully, her right hand holding the went cloth and shaking as she worked through the permutations of the situation.
