It was sort of a mundane routine at this point. The Europa was a small ship, and there were only so many ways to make the same decks be interesting and new. Her job was as varied as one might expect a department head’s to be, but ever since her parents had left the ship to have her father convalesce in a better place, she had felt… adrift. Was that even the right word? It wasn’t that she wasn’t her usual chipper self, with a bright smile and an easy quip with her team, but behind the mask, the fire had dimmed. She was trying to stoke the embers but failing miserably. She also didn’t want to put the burden on Steven either, even though their relationship was sort of like the ship. It just ticked over day by day. It wasn’t a bad thing at all. But she didn’t know how to feel about it.
So, as usual, Cassidy Abrams found herself taking a seat at the bar in the small lounge and ordering a mai tai, hoping the colourful drink would inspire her. Or something.

Sienna came into the lounge and sighed in relief. Having finally finished a report to Star Fleet on Europa’s last mission, she felt drained of all information and her brain was on life support. There was an energy in the Lounge of liveliness and genial conversation most of the time and she was glad of the energy even if she wasn’t feeling super social at the moment. Her eyes fell on Cassidy Abrams though and she found herself smiling.
She walked up to the bar and as she took a seat, she said. “I will have whatever she is having.” Sienna was always interested in the choices people made for refreshments. Odd interest, she knew, yet it still piqued her curiosity. “Hello Cassidy.”
Cass grinned. “Heya, Sienna. I’m having a mai tai. I hope you like fruity cocktails,” she said with a chuckle.
Small ships came with the same problems of any small town. Rumor, drama, and sometimes hot tempers simmered. Just as the bar associate went to fulfill their request, a group of people came in. They were out of uniform and talking intensely.

Casting her gaze backwards over her shoulder, Abrams sighed. “I hope they plan to be behave themselves. I was hoping to be off-duty this evening.” She didn’t quite grumble her words, but she wasn’t in the mood to be chief of security. Not tonight.

Sienna also turned to glance at the group who were giving off a mix of anger, frustration, and pleasure in stoking each other’s fire. She blinked a couple of times and turned back to the Chief of Security, noting how the woman looked at the bar. It seemed like she was as drained as Sienna was feeling. The counselor smiled empathetically and turned her attention back towards the group. “Yes. I too hope they will behave themselves. Some discussions and tempers are best suited to a private space where calm heads might prevail and earnest honesty can be disclosed.”
While she spoke, she stretched out her senses to brush theirs. It was a subtle but easy way to gain attention on a subconscious level. Sure enough, two of the group looked up towards the bar as if finally realizing where they were in context to the rest of the crew. Her mouth turned down in a frown and they quickly returned their attention to their crewmates. Within moments, they quieted and the intensity exuded was fading. Her look had been enough to quell them and she was glad of it.
Satisfied, she turned back to the bar just in time for their drinks to be set down in front of them. “I do like fruity drinks. Mai Tai’s often go hand in hand with beach vacations do they not?”

(want a third?)
OOC: Feel free! Did you get my email, Luke?
OOC: Can’t say that I have… can you resend it.
OOC: Resent it through your contact form. If it doesn’t show up, it might have slipped into junk mail.
IC:
“Oh Gods, a vacation! What is that?” Abrams said, breaking into a laugh that faded into a sigh. She turned her drink on the bar top. A part of her knew that she was safe talking freely with Nox, not just as a counsellor but as a crew mate and perhaps even a friend, but she was having a hard time vocalizing her inner world lately. “I’m on edge, alert. I can’t fully stand down.” She turned her head to look at Sienna. “Ever since my parents left, I keep waiting for bad news, from them, about something else. The proverbial other shoe feels about to drop all the time.”Abrams, COS
This was often a feeling people had and given some of what she knew Abrams had gone through lately, she could understand the feeling. Sienna nodded and opened her mouth to reply when…
Marsh wandered into the Lounge picking up a quick random adult beverage at the bar. He spun around wearily not quite knowing what he was doing here or who he would spend time with if he did stay. It only took a moment to lock onto the table with Cassidy and Siennadye. He pursed his lips… He should have know Cassidy was here. Despite their work together to find her parents and the lost star-fleet ship… they were still ships that seemed to get in sync.
He sauntered over. He always comported himself well, no matter how he felt. Perhaps a offshoot of his royal training. “Ladies… Ladies… Ladies… would you like to have a Y chromosome in this sea of X.”
Marsh
Cass looked up at her partner and smiled, glad to see him. “Only if you think you can stand the heat,” she bantered, something seemingly small and normal amongst the confusion.
Abrams, COS
She turned and grinned at Marsh. The cocky CSO was almost a breath of fresh air given what they had been about to get into. Perhaps he would be a good distraction for Cassidy. “We have Mai Tais. By the time I have had a few of these, I will be able to handle anything.” It was a mild joke at Marsh’s expense but she knew he would handle it with his typical charm and wouldn’t take offense.
“Shall we move this to an actual table? The bar is awkward for conversations between three.”
