Abrams managed not to frown. “If I may, Commander…” She said before focusing on Syllrasa and giving them a bow of her head. “You are correct. We use magnetic fields to keep the components apart and then they are funnelled through injector coils into an intermix chamber where the reaction occurs. We can control the rate at which that occurs, yes.” She didn’t feel it was giving much away since these people obviously knew about their matter/antimatter system, if not the mechanics of it. They had guessed correctly how it functioned and it didn’t hurt to build goodwill by acknowledging this.

Marsh just looked back and forth between the speakers. They were stalling, why, what did they want. He gestured at his wrist like he was tapping a watch, tick tock.

Marsh

Sllyrasa either didn’t pick up on Marsh’s impatience or the cultural reference of such, or he simply ignored it. Instead he asked another question. “How is the resulting power conducted through the rest of your ship? Would it be possible for the hull to receive a stream of photonic energy and utilize it? I ask these things not to stall…” He briefly glanced at Marsh. “But instead understand how your ship works. We have a means to transmit vast amounts of energy, as I’m sure your observation of our craft has shown, and it may be possible to provide the initial power impetus for the ship to get itself in working order. This is a more time efficient approach than trying to send some of you up there.”

GM Dread

Inwardly she groaned. Marsh’s impatience was overly obvious to the point of rudeness. She turned her head to him and shook it in a firm negative to indicate he needed to stop and pull himself together. He should be answering questions and assisting the people who make decisions about help that could be provided. She could see why Sllyro had been unwilling to make any determinations, but was willing to lead them to someone who could theoretically help them.

Nox, CNS

Avik paused then gave Abrams a nod of permission to continue. It was simple, but encouraged their CoS to speak. Her eyes noted Marsh’s wrist tapping. She inhaled subtly and let the counselor deal with him. She focused on exhausting all her options including those within reach.

Interestingly, Sllyasa presented them with a possible solution to most their issues. She recalled Sllyro had mentioned advancement in other areas and hoped it might lead to a way to aid their ship. It turned out her theory was correct and would’ve been missed in their haste. Granted, it also led to more questions than she had liked. First, they needed to address the immediate threat then they could determine the source of it.

“From what I recall upon reading, the Federation ships use a power grid called an EPS, electro-plasma system. It’s based on storing energy in a energetic plasma form and distributing it throughout the ship’s via plasma conduits. It centers around the warpcore and expands to all areas of the ship. The power levels are regulated by coolant ducts and monitored by conversion sensors.”

It was an obvious text book explanation and condensed down from her memory. She hoped it helped some and allowed others to fill in what she missed.

“There are ways energy can be transmitted at distance, but those systems need to be modified to receive the power and would need someone working on the ship to finish the connections.” The deflector shield was one, he could reverse the tractor beam as well but Steven was reluctant to give too much information. “The ‘hard points’” which weren’t actually hard but the reference needed to be clear. “for base transfers of control and power can be employed without any modification by the crew, but it is very short ranged - we are talking meters. And again, there are switches that need to be handled from inside the ship.” He shrugged, “However the attempt… if it doesn’t preclude other options doesn’t cause harm so I think it would be a welcome option. Just in case they are waiting for us to do something and they can set things up.”

Marsh

“We have a possible solution to one problem now. However, Marsh has pointed out others. A large factor is communication or at least the knowledge of the power transfer coming. Recounting the obvious: without any type of power on our ship, communication is down and receiving messages is impossible. At least as far as I’m aware of.” Avik let the knowledge settle briefly before continuing.

“The most obvious solution is sending at least one of us to the Europa. Preferably with a way to communicate long distance. Sending power without ensuring the ship can properly receive it will be wasting resources and likely worsening the issue than solving it.” At this point, the XO wished for long distance transporter technology. With the Europa’s shield down, there was nothing to prevent them from beaming onboard and skipping the time it took to travel upward.

Sllyrasa closed his eyes in contemplation. “So some sort of power distribution path would need to be established from the receiving end to whatever power capacitance capability is inside of your ship.” He opened his eyes and looked at Marsh. Whether Marsh would feel the heavy psychic presence while being looked at was another matter. “We noticed that your ship has the capability of projecting an energy field around itself utilizing a multitude of emitters along the hull. What if a broad spectrum energy pulse was directed at these from both sides of the ship?”

OOC: Marsh is non-telepathic. He’s bright so he could figure out if they kept picking up on what he was thinking, but he couldn’t sense it.

Marsh squinted they knew a bunch. He was curious about how much… He glanced at the XO but responded. “That wouldn’t be the best method. The technique that is more commonly used is aiming the power at the main dish. Its at the front of the ship and shaped slightly like a cup. It a projection device, so someone has to reverse the power flow…”

Sienna was glad that technical talk was not only bridging the gap caused by perceived rudeness, but also getting them somewhere. Having very little knowledge about engineering other than the basics she learned in the Academy, Sienna wasn’t much help to this discussion so she focused instead on trying to read the people they were coming to know. She didn’t use her telepathy to invade their mind, but she watched their body language and facial expressions. She expanded her own senses in a general sense, wanting to pick up what she could.

Avik held eye contact for a few moments longer than normal. It was a subtle confirmation that she also acknowledged the oddness, but they couldn’t discuss it now. Calmly she listened to the discussion between the pair, hoping a solution might develop since she couldn’t add much to it.
