“I see,” Vora said with a nod. Was she disappointed that there wasn’t something more? Perhaps just a little. She had little personal experience with the concept of family and so she was trying to gauge how this one worked. Of course every family was difference and there were nuances to this all over the place, but she supposed she had hoped for something more tangible she could grasp. But as Avik had said, different things could be passed down, though maybe it was a cultural difference, but she wasn’t entirely sure how a routine held significance. “And the routine itself has importance?” she said, hoping they could bridge this informational gap.~Vora Zorell, Sciences
“I see some confusion.” Avik noted then exhaled, softly.
“When you look at it objectively, the day shares similarities with the surrounding ones. From start to finish, the length is the same. There’s no drastic change in the world when a holiday happens nor are any certains ones universal to all races. Taking that knowledge, what makes the holidays important to you compared to other days? Why do they stand out?”
The woman paused long enough to let Vora answer her questions. She made sure her tone held no accusations or judgment, but the usual blandness and indifference didn’t help her success very much. In this situation, she had to give Vora the benefit that the woman would not assume things.

Vora considered this but it actually suddenly became more complicated. “I don’t know, not from my own personal experience. To be honest, while I know some regions on Tenra have celebrations I personally did not grow up with any. I’ve never celebrated a holiday, due to the circumstances within which I grew up,” she said with a slight shrug. “But if I were to hazard a hypothesis, holidays are important to people because of the… rituals,” she said with a smile, beginning t nod. “I think I understand. Daily routines are rituals to you that have more significance on your life.”

“Exactly.” Avik confirmed as she wrapped up her meal.
“All creatures find worth in something that promotes something significant to them. Holidays, from my view point, are just larger examples of routines that happen annually. With my role of XO on the Europa, I can’t ensure I will always have leave on certain dates. So the time factor loses importance because it’s something I can’t count on. However, a daily routine is far more flexible and still allows me to apply what I view to be important.” She appeared satisfied with the result.
Vora nodded. “While she didn’t have the same attachment to routine, she also knew that the everyday rotations of life on a starship were predictable to a certain extent and that kept a level of stability that the recovering addict needed in her life.
Her dark eyes turned to Cassandra who stealthily paid for the meal and waited patiently for the conversation to wrap up. Upon making eye contact with Avik, she smiled.
“If you two are done, maybe we should be plotting our next activity? Are there any things that draw your attention, Vora? I’m sad to say the food stalls and fireworks won’t happen until later tonight so we have some time to kill.”

“I’m not sure, really. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of the colony as a whole. I’m a geologist by first training so I am curious about the places colonies are formed on.” Vora was done and as she got up, she frowned in confusion. “Do we pay at the front or leave something at the table?” she asked, having brought credits with her for such outings. There was a long time ago where she couldn’t have even afforded to sit and have a meal in a cozy place like this. At least not on her own.

Cassandra began to usher her son to follow her out, their dishes left behind. She smirked as she noted Vora’s concern. “I’ve already taken care of that. We take turns covering expenses for each festival so don’t worry about it. You’re a guest after all.”
Avik began to pull up and follow Vora’s lead, monitoring her reaction to Cassandra’s generosity. While what Cassandra said was true, not everyone took kindness well. Some felt it unfair or wounded their pride. She hoped this was not the case with Vora.
“I believe there’s a study center at the heart of the colony. It is often used for educational trips, but it’s open to anyone interested in the subject. The other option is a tour of the underground tunnels. Less information, but toward the end it does take you into a geode.” She pointed out, wasting little time.
Behind them, Kekec, her father and Kivl had finished up extracting themselves from their seats.
“I think experience is a better teacher than listening to a lecture or small activities.” Kivl gave her subtle input as she moved in behind Avik.
