As Pilar walked to the counselor’s office, she visually took in her surroundings on the ship, she was excited and it showed on her face. This was her first assignment in a leadership position. Also during this time she was on comm with her husband, she said to him, “It is amazing. I do not know how else to describe it.”
He replied back, “You are always an exaggerated visionary when it comes to these types of things.” He of course was referring to her mood and the fact she was displaying unnecessary emotion. His face was unchanging as he commented, even so, she knew he was teasing her in his own particular way.
“Well you know, I thought that I would just stay at home and rear our kids into adulthood. I mean that is what was supposed to happen, so…”
“I think you are better and more useful where your are.” He said, blatantly. Pilar nodded in agreement. She wished he would just show, on his face, just one this time, how happy he was for her.”
“Okay then,” she said, “I am here for my psych evaluation. We shall talk later.” He nodded and the call ended.
Pilar tapped the chime and waited for her order to enter the room.

Halcyone - CSO

OOC: Bumping this…

Pilar really usually didn’t snoop around, however when no one answered the chime she walked into the office and began to observe the room. “Counselor? Are you here? We had an appointment for my psych evaluation. An important part of my boarding physical....” her voice trailed off as she began to realize that she may be talking to herself. She walked over to a chair and sat as she looked out the window at the stars. She began to think about her children, Perseus and Spenser. She hadn’t physically seen them in months and she hadn’t had the chance to talk to them since she took her new job on the Constellation, on the advice of her husband because he didn’t want her “motherly” emotions to interfere with her success in the new role. She pulled up a picture of them on her PaDD and looked at it in a daze.

Halcyone - CSO

“I was looking for the Counsellor as well,” a voice said, “I was meant to be meeting with him over an hour ago, but I couldn’t find him anywhere.”

The speaker was a man in the gold/yellow of engineering, and he greeted the CSO with a nod of his head, extending a hand to her, he continued, “I’m Rujo Kiwa, part of the Engineering staff here. I was down there,” he pointed to behind the desk, “trying to work out what was up with his workstation. He wasn’t here when I arrived and so I convinced the door to let me in. Rumours from Engineering is that the Counsellor was called for higher office. I’m not much good at Counselling and Psychology myself, Lieutenant, but I can listen, if you want to talk about anything. Anyway, I hope you don’t think me rude if I continue working on this blighter? I have a shipload of maintenance requests to get through this week. So, you a Doc or a Scientist?”

-Lt Rujo Kiwa, Eng
OOC: Decided I should practice what I preached in my other post. Rujo is my first ever STF character, my Engineering Cadet on the USS Columbia twelve years ago. Rujo is good fun, and a bit more sensible than the CNO

Just corrected my mistyped position title for Ray/Throat

Pilar looked at him for a moment, then she stood and returned the hand shake. “Is it appropriate to talk to you about my personal life?” She shifted uncomfortably on her feet for a moment as she continued, “I have never really done so…or talked to anyone but counselors....” she trailed off then she answered his question, “I am a little of both....kind of. I specialize in alien biology. I know almost everything there is to know about most of the species we know of in the universe. How I retain all that information....I have no idea but I do.” She had loosened up without even realizing it. “How long you been on the Constellation?” She asked.

Halycone - CSO

“The Connie stopped in at Fleet HQ about six months ago. I joined the ship then. I’ve been in the background, repairing systems and the like ever since.” Rujo replied, answering her last question first, before disappearing briefly under the system once again, “aha, found the culprit.”

Re-emerging moments later, he was holding a burnt-out isolinear chip, and said, “I’m not prying into your personal life, Lieutenant, I’d rather leave that to the Counsellor. And I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.”

As he spoke, he lifted a black case that had the USS Constellation and it’s NCC number on it, and opened it, “Engineers are in short supply on board, and main engineering is like a graveyard. I mean, I enjoy speaking to myself and all, but them going and not being replaced? That seems strange, even for this ship.”

He began to riffle through the case, looking for a replacement chip for the console. “Alien biology, really? So, does that mean you can work out what’s wrong with someone and fix it,” he snapped his fingers, “like that? Or is that a bit beyond your abilities?”

-Lt Rujo Kiwa

“I understand”, said Pilar with a nod in reference to prying into her personal situation. She watched him as he made the repairs and kept speaking to him. “Things are only beyond your ability if you believe it to be so. It depends on the species....some I am better with than others. I know Vulcan biology like I know my own, and I think its because my kids are Vulcan. Why do you think the main engineer has not been replaced? It seems you subliminally know something you are not sharing.”

Halycone - CSO

“I really don’t know,” Rujo replied, deciding on the chip he needed, “all I know is that they choose to leave and haven’t been replaced. I’m still here, and I’ve been up and down the ship so many times, I no longer know or care how many days its been since I last had more than a few hours sleep or when I last saw another engineer, or what number coffee I am up to.”

“Excuse me, I need to go back in there and get this console working …” Rujo disappeared under the console once more and shortly after the monitor of the Counsellor’s monitor was back up and running again. Rujo then came out from under the console, a satisfied expression on his face.

“If I’m asked to do so, I’ll gladly step into the role of Chief Engineer, I’ve done it before, both in the Academy and on a Pioneer Fleet ship. But until then, I’m happy just being an Engineer,” he tapped on his padd, “one more task down, a couple of hundred to go. Are your children on board with you? With the ship being built with families in mind, did you decide to bring them with you, or are they elsewhere?”

  • Lt Rujo Kiwa, CE
OOC: I offered to be Chief Engineer on board, an offer which was accepted by the XO. I’m also keeping Ray going.
    Russell

OOC: Yes I saw you are the new engineer. Congratulations!
Mika

IC: “No they are with my husband’s family…on New Vulcan and there is no intention to bring them aboard.” She shifted a little on her feet. “My husband thinks they are a major distraction for me.” She saw how fast he fixed the console. “I have a feeling you might be our next engineer.” She smiled a little. “To be honest, I don’t know if I am cut out for the CSO job. I have never been in a position of authority. I am nervous that I am not a capable leader. I feel like I overreached when I accepted this role.”

Halycone - CSO

“I felt the same way when I graduated as a Cadet from the Columbia. I was promoted to Lt JG and told by the Captain I’d be the next Chief Engineer for the next class of Cadets. Me! What did I know about leading others? Then my great grandma told me that they wouldn’t have offered me the post if they didn’t think I could do it. She asked me if I trusted their opinion of me. I admitted I did, and I decided that despite my misgivings, I would take on the challenge.”

Rujo paused, checked his padd, nodded and packed his tools away again, “Lieutenant, you wouldn’t have been offered the position on the Constellation if those who offered it to you didn’t think you had the ability for it. The question you need to answer is ‘do you trust them’? I am certain you wouldn’t have been offered the position if you weren’t capable of it. And as for not being a capable leader, you’ve got to look no further than me in that. Two of my Engineering staff on the Columbia tried to poison and kill me. One of them thought he should have been given the role, but was not graduated with the rest and the other turned out to be related to him in some way. I was so bad as a leader that I couldn’t pick up on that from them.”

Rujo shook his head at that and gave an ironic laugh, “despite their best efforts though, I survived it due to others on board who did think I had it to be a leader, and their Chief Engineer. Dagon Thor, Leon and John-King McKenzie, the Captain and XO, Dan Lerner, the Medical staff … all came together to ensure I was safe and able to continue on and that those who tried to poison me were brought to justice.”

“Don’t let the fears stop you, Lieutenant. Do your best and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Make your decision to stay or go based on what’s best for you … and your children. Look, I have more work to do here. Sickbay is my next port of call. Something about one of the EMHs calling the CMO when she activated it a Smeghead, whatever that means. But if you need a friend to talk to, look me up. I’d like to catch up some more.”

-Lt Rujo Kiwa, Chief (Lone) Engineer
