Chris had never been known as someone to go green and indulge in gardening but upon hearing that the ships three arboretums were barely been used he thought why not let’s give it a go. Stepping out of his ready room the captain strolled towards the turbo lift and stepped in directing the computer to take him to arboretum reading a PaDD enclosing information regarding botanical gardening. Stepping out of the turbo lift and onto 14 the captain scrolled to the bottom of the PaDD were information stated that the two smaller arboretums were currently at full to capacity but Deck 14’s larger one was free and currently not in use. Walking down the corridor and up to a large set of doors passing through them, Chris found himself in a large room covered with a profusion of shrubbery and other plants from all around the federation.

Standing in the centre of the room Chris brought up a fresh page on his PaDD and began to make notes on repairs and changed that needed to take place making a mental picture of the arboretums new layout once the captain had finished its grand design.

“Where to begin” the captain spoke aloud observing as the room fell silent.

As the Captain contemplated the new layout, he heard the patter of delicate footsteps approaching. Spotting a familiar face, Kallie ran over with excitement and tugged on his sleeve. “You found it too?!” she squeaked. “This is where I was having a picnic with my dad…” she announced proudly as she gestured to the empty space. “Do you want to meet him?” she asked.

Mother Hen

Startled by the sudden appearance of the ship new oddball Kallie the Captain took a few moments to compose himself before speaking. “Ahh Kallie hello you startled me there” he began by saying his demeanour showing clear aspects of an individual who had just been startled. “Sure I have a few spare moments why not” he went on to say.

Johnson, CO

Kallie smiled warmly and took Chris by the hand, leading him round the corner to a large picnic blanket. It was littered with plates and half eaten sandwiches and there was a large open hamper on one corner.

Kallie let go of Chris’ hand and ran over to the blanket. “Dad, this is Captain Chris!” She said excitedly to the empty picnic blanket. “Captain, come and meet my dad…” she added as she beckoned the him over.

Mother Hen

“Sure,” the captain said walking over to the picnic blanket. Looking up after walking over to where the picnic blanket was located Chris observed for a few moments before speaking. “Hello, Kallie’s Dad I am Chris” the captain spoke before observing that the picnic blanket was empty and her father no were to be found. Maybe he’s gone to the bathroom he went on to ponder.

Kallie giggled as she poured herself a drink. “No dad, I told you about him…he’s the Captain of the whole ship, don’t you remember?” she asked, still talking to the empty blanket and then turned to Chris and whispered, “I think he’s going senile in his old age!” she chuckled.

The captain tapped his head several times checking that he wasn’t in some sort of lucid dream. “Were’s your father Kallie” the captain queried in a confused manner. “Maybe he got a call and had to go off.” he went on to say.

Kallie giggled as she pointed to the empty space on the picnic blanket. “He’s right there?” she asked, a little confused. “Oh! Are you playing a game?” she asked as she clapped her hands.

Mother Hen

The captain simple nodded and played along. “Ahh yes I see him must be the lack of Caffeine” the captain spoke in a calm manner in order to not raise suspicion. “Kallie why don’t you sit with you Father and I will be to seconds I just need to go play captain for a moment” the captain said as he walked over to the exit and stood in the corridor.

Kallie sighed and nodded as she sat down and poured 3 cups of tea. “Ok, but don’t be long, we’ve got ice cream for dessert!” she squeaked as she leaned over and began babbling something to the empty space.

Mother Hen

“I wont be” replied Chris as he exited the room.

Once making his way to the corridor Chris waited for the doors to seal before tapping his com badge. =^= Captain to the Councillor, can you contact me on the double please =^= bellowed Chris down the com channel.
