Du’Ralle peered at the Ferengi with a slight look of disdain before bursting out in a raucous laugh and slapping him firmly on the shoulder. “You are small Ferengi, but you have the heart of a Klingon warrior!” his voice boomed through sickbay as several patients looked up in surprise. He dutifully sat back down on the bed, still laughing. “You will fetch my friend please?” a somewhat calmer young man asked Cross.

Gong’da was taken aback by the sudden turn but wasted no time. “Of course. Officer Cross can you get the young lad and I will stay here. Bring both of their parents as well. Thank you and thank you Du’Ralle.”

Cross nodded in agreement and seeing no need for more talk left sickbay, shaking his head and smiling to himself. The training matches he planned to have with the young man would prove interesting indeed.

Du’Ralle scowled in disgust at the mention of his mother and folded his arms, glaring at the doctor.

Gong’da noticed the scowl. “Now, now Da’Ralle. She needs to be here because of protocol. Not because I want her. You know she may not be a warrior like you but have you ever thought about how strong she really is? Thought about how hard it is to raise a fine warrior like yourself with no help? How hard it is for her to be around others of your kind knowing that they know she has shunned your ancestral ways. How that in fact and in turn made you train harder to be better than the others? In a way she has helped you become the awesome fighting machine you are right now. “

Du’Ralle rolled his eyes as the doctor spoke although deep down, there was a small part of him that took Gong’da’s words in. He sighed and shrugged his shoulders as he pondered whether he was too hard on his mother.

“Others fight in their own way. Not with swords and knives but with their brains. I had to fight against time and knowledge in order to save you. It took 14 hours of surgery to save you. I was at the end of my 12 hour shift when you arrived. So I had to fight sleep and fatigue as well. How does that rank up there with your views on being a warrior and bravery?”

Du’Ralle looked down at where he had been patched up and instinctively gave it a rub. “I suppose so…” he muttered, avoiding Gong’da’s gaze. He shifted uncomfortably and gritted his teeth as his still tender wound.

Gong’da just nodded thinking that would be best. He didn’t want to test the shark infested waters too much and went back to writing his report.

As Ryalla & Cross entered sickbay, there was a definite nervousness about the young girl. She tentatively made her way up to Du’Ralle and tapped him on the shoulder. As he gave her a bit of an icy glare, she quickly looked at her shoes. The young Klingon stayed silent for a moment as he watched his friend then finally laughed and slapped her on the shoulder. “Why do you look so down? You fought bravely and strategically, worthy of any Klingon warrior and these guys fixed me up fine…next time I’ll be ready for you though…” he chuckled as Ryalla relaxed a little and gave him a smile.

Du’Ralle hopped off the bed and tapped Gong’da on the shoulder. “So can I go then?” he asked, itching to get out of sickbay. As he waited, he heard the irritating voice of his mother enter the room. J’Kara ran up and gave him a hug as he sneered. “Oh, you’re awake sweetheart, I was so worried about you…” she said as she sniffed, trying to hold back her emotion. Du’Ralle wriggled free of her grip with a look of disdain. “Unhand me woman!” he protested as she reluctantly took a step back.

Gong’da was about to say something when the mother came in and hugged her son and he yelled at her. “Gong’da looked up at the young Klingon. “Du’Ralle! Remember what we just talked about?!! And yes, you are free to go but you need to be back here one week from today so I can see if the stitches are holding up and to look at the wound. “

While mother and son we’re busy, Cross silently made his exit. He had duties to see to and he needed a cup of coffee after dealing with all this drama! He quickly made his way to his office.
