Gong’da immediately turned off the screen and in a harsh tone yelled out. “Not until you pay to see it!”

He then smiled showing his razor sharp teeth and in a nice tone said; “Sorry about that. Childhood indoctrination and all.” He turned the screen on again. “You are healthy and good to go. Do you have any questions Byr? I am glad you said I could call you that because I could not say your name. “

Gong’da CMO

“Culture is a hard thing to seperate from, I understand,” Byr smiled as the Ferengi apologised. “We have our own cultural duels, and my culture means that if challenged to such a duel I must accept. Our cultures may be different, but we were both raised in a particular way,” he continued. As he mentioned about his name Byr let out a slight chuckle as he said “Not many people can, doctor,” as he stood up, “If you don’t mind, I actually do have a question, but it’s not related to the examination. Forgive me if I’m being intrusive, but not many Ferengi often join Starfleet, considering we are a cashless society. I know Ferengi are big on latinum, so what made you to decide to go against your culture? I mean no offense by the question, but as a scientist specialized in cultural studies, I am curious,” he asked.

Gong’da frowned and looked down at the floor. In a sorrowful voice that was quite he said; “I was forced out or exiled when I got caught, in their eyes, embezzling latinum that was not earned the right way. I now seek atonement for myself. Have a good day Byr.” He just turned and walked to his office without ever looking up.

“I see,” replied Byr sympathetically. “Well, thank you for the evaluation, and I apologize for bringing up a sore subject, doctor. I’ll let you get back to your work,” he said, nodding slightly before leaving the Sickbay. He then headed towards the counsellors office to get the final part of his boarding evaluations completed.
