Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻Brenna left her office, Geri and Fekri following close at her heels. “No. No. Aboslutely no. Nonononononono No. Why? Why now? How did he do that? Really he had help, had to have help. That’s the only way.” She stopped suddenly did a beatiful military style about face, returned to her office, grabbed the carrier, gloves, and placed Rhyolite gently into it. Happy cooes making her smiles softly. “Yes yes here,” she dropped two of his favorite amythist geodes into the carrier to munch on. Then she was pacing back out the door to the turbolift and deck 2.
Man Fekri we have got to put a stop to this? She’s pacing, and you can smell the stress. Fekri just shook his doggy head. Nope she likes him, he likes her. I don’t get how human’s choose their mates either, but that’s not my job. She gives us orders we listen. Now shut up or will miss the small moving room thing.
Minutes later Brenna was outside of Zarcal’s quarters, putting on the protective jumpsuit/gloves/mask and rang the chime. She waited, bouncing on the balls of her feet. “No nope, not now. It’s not ....” a huge sigh, “it’s more than fair. Aww why me?”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoPFinally half way through a cup of tea he heard the chime and put the mug down along side his book. Flies and Ancients by Aramais Davidian was a difficult tome to get into and the fluorine sure didn’t help keep the pages from curling either. He wasn’t expecting anyone but was happy to have just gotten through some tea. As he approached he said “Computer, activate containment field.” The shimmering energy sprung into effect at his door as he opened it up, relaxing against his door frame in what might be mistaken as a sultry pose. He saw Breena and Rhyolite and smiled, “Is it 5:00 already? I didn’t mean to make you deliver him to me, I appreciate it though. It’s been nice to have a break. Come in, and I’m happy to put my mask on or split the room for you if you don’t want to wear that bulky gear.” Zarcal moved out of the doorway and let out a faint smile as he welcomed her in. Something was off. “Breena is everything alright? How’s our new XO adjusting? I signed off on the transfer and made sure he was set up but I didn’t have my meeting with him till tomorrow.”
Zarcal, CO
Geri and Fekri laid down outside Zarcal’s door. By now they were used to waiting outside. They couldn’t be outfitted to go in safely. They took up positions on either side of the door. Brenna walked in, bulky gear and all and distractidly waved off his over to split the room. She could hide in the ‘bulky gear.’ She set the baby carrier down, opened it and gently lifted Ryholite out of his carrier. Murmuring softly to him before passing him gently to Zarcal. “It’s not 5:00.” Was all she said as she began to pace back and forth. She stopped and looked at him, her face, through the helmet, clearly guilty. She did’t think Zarcal would write her up, but she was in sooooo much trouble, this was bad. She had the self restraint and patience of saint. But then she hadn’t had to test it against Richard. Oh it wasn’t Richard’s fault. He didn’t know…there so was so much she could tell him, but should she? She stopped pacing, again. “I KISSED HIM!”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoPAs the two dogs sat guarding and the offer to split the room was denied he made his way back to his chair to take a sip of tea. A lovely micromeria douglasii steeped for 5 minutes was swirling around when he looked over to see her pacing. He thought about the ‘before 5’ part and it made him wonder what was going on. Not that he minded, his CoP was doing him a favor as opposed to following orders and he just enjoyed the break. As he took another sip the words hit him like a ton of Horta waste. Now Horta waste was similar in composition to a brick so for those not as familiar with the metabolic process of the Horta might better say ‘a ton of bricks’. The sip that was in his mouth was soon a fine mist sprayed out of his mouth as he blinked in bewilderment. Not that it was noticeable behind the VISOR but he was indeed blinking.
He held up a finger, opened his mouth, and nothing came out. He exhaled lowered his hand to his knee as he leaned forward, mouth still a little slack as he turned his head to the side a little to make sure his door was shut before saying, “Um.... Commander I.... I know I literally lived under a rock and for that matter amongst rocks, for the later half of my Starfleet career. But I’m fairly certain that standard protocol between officers is not osculation. A ‘hello’ or a ‘welcome onboard’ or even a ‘would you like a tour of the ship’ would suffice… not ‘would you like a tour of my face’....”
Brenna waved a hand at him again, pacing and pacing and it was making Rhyolite upset. Brenna stopped and paced his quarters like she lived there. Of course she was there A LOT. She spoiled Rhyolite rotten. She opened the cookie jar and brought back a floralite gem and fed it to him and then continued to pace some more. “Well no it’s not standard. That’s the problem! How did I not hear about who you choose? Tell me that Zarcal? I know everything that goes on about this ship and I missed that. I’ll tell you why, that man knows all my tricks and used them on me! On PURPOSE!” And back to pacing. “And it wasn’t a tour if he already knew his way around....”
Letting out a sigh, he smiled a little and said, “I posted his appointment on the cork board that I put up on the bridge. I thought it was going to be a more of a comfortable and laid back sort of thing really. Maybe I should go back to just sending out memos… I’m sure he’s also good at what he does, he learned from the best after all.” Zarcal said taking a sip before bursting into laughter. Sadly yet another cloud of tea ejected from his lips. “I suppose that’s one way to put it…” He saw her feeding Rhyolite the gem and the baby cooed and gurgled as he ate the crystal.
She looked at him, jaw dropping. The corkboard....She had seen it. “Oh by the four gods....” She’d seen it. She knew the new XO was arriving today. “I didn’t read it all....NE Godiva…she was in the kitchen…You know, that hair of hers, she had it up like some weird beehive and it got sucked into the exhaust fan. She was dangling by her scalp and the system wouldn’t cut off…” She hadn’t finished reading the notice and never got back to it. But that did NOT let Richard off the hook for using Intel contacts to hide the news from her from the daily intel fleet reports. She covered her helmeted head in a both hands and groaned.
He sat back and cleared his throat, “I suppose I should ask why you thought it best to smack lips with my new XO?”
Zarcal, Bewildered Old Man
She finally really stopped pacing and dropped into a chair, her face stricken. “Because I missed him and he still loves me and it caught me off guard and I kissed him. I mean who does that? I can’t think around him.”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoPSitting back be pulled one leg up onto his knee, and leaned forward with his hand on his chin. The pair had become very comfortable with each other given the care for Rhyolite and it was nothing romantic, more old friends. “Alright spill it. You’re telling me that my Chief Intelligence Officer has some long lost fling that just so happens to be my new XO and it was such a hot fire back in the day that instead of being professional, you two took what could be an HR complaint and redefined the meaning of ‘fraternization’. So tell me all about it.”
Zarcal, CO
Brenna opened and closed her mouth several times, like a fish out of water. Of course Zarcal couldn’t see it because she was still covering her face with her hands. “We met 8 years ago, at the academy. We…” she leaned back and finally lowered her hands, a slight grin on her face. “We were competitive. As you know he was a tactical officer and I as an intel officer. Many of the skills are similar. But…” she laughed, “he made me laugh and … we fit.” She didn’t know how to explain it. She wasn’t sure a non-telepath would understand. But…”I beat him in an obstacle course run. Barely, I cheated.” She laughed. “I mean that’s what we intel do, right? I rigged the tire sprint. The last tire…I put a remote control life under it, raised it 1 inch, just enough to trip him. He fell flat on his face and I kept going. He asked me out that night.” She still wasn’t sure if Richard knew what she’d done or not. “I haven’t seen him in 8 years. Once we graduated, I told him to move on. I as being sent deep undercover, and well, you never know if you’ll come back.” She shrugged, “But now he’s here and I’m in SO much trouble. I just barged into his counseling session…yelling at him about the dog. He TOOK MY DOG! Fenris…did you notice he was gone? My dog Betrayed me for him! Can you believe that?”
Lt Atoded, 2OZarcal leaned back and tilted his head to sky as he exhaled through semi pursed lips. His own fingers entwined as his hands sat in his lap as he tapped his foot too. It was a clear sight of someone processing information and Zarcal had no intention to make himself seem calculated and calm, this was work yes but it was also wonderfully juicy gossip. “Ok first off you cheated to beat him but like you said that’s kind of the point so fine. And he still likes you and from what I can tell you clearly still like him. So he asked you out, you two were a ‘thing’ till graduation and I really have no clue about going on deep cover as I’ve studied various astronomical and geological anomalies till I was an XO and CO myself and in my later years after I left the Santiago I was a diplomat and xenoanthropologist but I suppose I get it....”
He looked back at Breena and a knowing smile grew as he said. “If I didn’t know any better Breena I’d think that you were on an episode of Troubling Times on Risa!” Now TToR was a soap opera that Zarcal absolutely loved and the play between the three lead characters was worthy of the highest awards. Or so he thought anyways. If you took the most cliché aspects of a show you’d have TToR. With love triangles, affairs, blackmail, long-lost children, big secrets, you name it! Take Days of our Lives, General Hospital, All My Children, The Young and the Restless, and Another World. Threw it into a blender, then poured the solution into a holosuite, you’d have Troubling Times on Risa.
He stood up and struck a powerful if not campy pose and looked down, hand up over his chest, “Lieutenant Commander I am ashamed of you. The disgrace you bring on to my is just too much to bear.” He slumped back into his chair, arm up, back of the and on his head as though he were going to faint, “I have a secret to tell you, something you must know.” He said, beckoning her over as he whispered “Calm.......down....” Before letting out an exacerbated sigh as his ‘dying breath’.
Calm....down? Brenna got up and started pacing again. “Calm down? I don’t want to calm down! I want to have a good old fashioned feminine freak out! And you are my only friend. Oh gods I need more friends, you are horrible at this!”
With a smile he stood and bowed before saying, “You know Fenris wanted to move in with me the day he met me, and I know that he’ll come back to you. The fact that you weren’t gutted by our counselor is a good thing and yes, I agree that barging in and yelling at him in the middle of his onboarding duties is rather poor form but guess what? I’ll just have to have you two do some counseling to get over it. That is unless you think you can handle the man who knows you so well and is holding Fenris hostage?”
Zarcal, Missed his calling on daytime soaps
Zarcal let the words sink in and thought it’d be best to try to drum up his more feminine side. He cleared his throat and said, “Girl you sure as hell screwed up. I don’t know what you’re going to do but I tell you what. This isn’t a good long term way to function and don’t you dare ask for a transfer.”
Brenna deflated just a bit, it was like Zarcal was telepathic. It was exactly what she was thinking. Cowardly she knew, but how was she supposed to work when she’d have to work next to him? And the man was eye candy! He’d been the target of many wandering eyes at the Academy, but now…man if they had known what he’d ben in 8 years, Brenna was pretty sure someone would have kidnapped him for herself back then. “Oh come on! That’s not fair! What if I want really want to. You know if Intel recalls me you can’t stop them.” She didn’t mean any of it of course but what was a good ol’ fashioned feminine freak out without absurd choices being considered?
“He left Fenris trapped in the turbo lift! You know the port side turbolift that only responds to commands in Klingon? I guess he couldn’t work it and he used a site to site transport. Fenris was FRANTIC when I got him out. My huskies aren’t like regular dogs, they aren’t pets that you can idly dismiss or leave behind.” She slumped back into the chair. “I didn’t exactly break down her door. I was going to welcome her on board…and heard ‘this is a boarding party, hands up!’ and then him asking her how he ended up in security instead of with the counselor....” She would have scrubbed her face except for the mask. “He’s lucky he’s not dead. And 4 we’ve had FOUR counselors in the last 2 months. I can’t take on another position, Zarcal. If he offends her to much she’ll leave. The ship can’t keep loosing senior staff.” She put her head back on the couch and slumped down, head and neck appearing to hold her onto the couch. “Then THEN! he gave me today and tomorrow off, told me to go to bed, and asked me to dinner tomorrow night.” Okay so he asked her to dinner and gave her the time off before the counselor’s office, but that was minor details. “Then he used the transporter to send me to HIS quarters!”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoPHe nodded and said, “Computer give me a bubble of Fluorine and convert the rest of the room to Class M. Don’t listen to Lieutenant Commander Atoded if she complains and replicate 3 glasses of Allira punch, safety protocols off as I want the real stuff, and what the heck. Let’s do a 5 gallon bucket of chocolate truffles. Maybe a box of tissues too.” As the computer did it’s magic Zarcal looked at her and said, “One glass each and you can have the second if you feel you need it. As for Fenris? I am so sorry. I keep asking the twins when it’ll get repaired but all I hear is some broken Klingon about honor and duty and such. I’ve gotten good at saying ‘Deck 4’ in Klingon though so there’s that. From what I read of Elyer’s file, I don’t think she’s going to have a problem handling Richard and perhaps it’s a time I have a conversation about how decorum means nothing on this ship anymore…” Zarcal grabbed the glasses and the bucket, holding his breath as he handed a glass to his CoP and took a few truffles before entering his bubble again. “Now get out of that biosuit and stuff your face with enough chocolate to kill an entire herd of Cardassian Voles will you?” He took a good swig before setting the glass down and rubbing a temple “Ok strictly speaking? You do need a break. You stepped up and ran the ship while I’m on leave and while it was supposed to be calm it sure hasn’t been and I suppose the whole ‘dinner tomorrow’ thing isn’t the weirdest. Transporting him to his quarters? That’s bold and, like I said before, you two have redefined the HR complaint now more times than I can count in the matter of what seems to be a couple hours.” He sat forward and took another sip before saying, “So you meeting him for dinner or what?”
Zarcal, Old Friend
As he ordered the atmosphere changed she simply picked of Rhyolite and moved him into his ‘nursery’ which looked like a giant pile of rocks, because it was, and kept a permanent atmosphere that was best for him. She didn’t even think about it, she just got up and did it. She adored the little thing and while Zarcal was busy barking orders at the computer she was sneaking Rhyolite more rock cookies. She set him down and found the baseball sized geode she’d given him as a toy and rolled it down a small slide like area and smiled distractedly as Rhyolite cooed happily. Once the air had cleared she removed the helmet, gloves, jump suit, and flopped back on the couch. She grabbed the glass of Allira punch and downed it like a shot. It was non-alcoholic but had a hard punch with the acidity and gave the same burn as alcohol. Then she indulged herself in about 5 truffles before speaking again.
Zaral rolled his eyes under the VISOR and looked at Breena. “You have got to stop spoiling him like that!” He said with a smile, popping a truffle into his mouth as he siaid. “Fine… one rock cookie won’t hurt him....”
“Yeah she’ll handle him. It’s just…I’m on edge I think. After that party, and the ‘other stuff’” Zarcal would know about all the intel stuff she’d done, running around in an evening gown of all things, stopping the Ferengi and others....from doing something stupid. She laughed, a bit too hard and snorted softly, “You just haven’t met him yet. He is bold always all the time, and humorous all the time. It’s hard to keep up with if you don’t know him.” She ate another truffle, chased by a swallow of the Allira punch. She turned her head to look at him, “Yesssssss......” She ate another truffle, savoring this one. “I know, it’s the last thing I should do, but I owe him.”
Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoP
“No I suppose you’re right, I don’t know him. And you have been working exceptionally hard on all of the ‘other’ projects as well. “I’m sure he’ll be a handful, young XO’s always are and I don’t think he’ll be any different.” Zarcal said, watching his CoP down the truffles as he said, “Should I get you the bath bombs and a sigh that says “Live Laugh Love’ for your quarters too?” He was poking fun at her last truffle and the soft ‘yes’ she had said. “Breena you don’t owe the man a damn thing. But I’ll be damned if you two lovebirds are going to cause me any headaches alright? Try to work it out, but if you can’t I’m going to have both of you sitting in the ready room with myself and the counselor for couples therapy....”
