“Yes sir!” A single torch light turned and illuminated the path to a scratched white box with a Red Cross drawn on it. Returning with the med kit, an engineer who seemed to young to be this accustomed to the ways of the Viking handed Mike a medical tricorder.

Readings indicated that Kristi was overall fine, she had a minor head injury and that was the extent of the damage. One thing was odd. It did seem as though she was dreaming, though she was not asleep.

Mike was torn. He would loved nothing more, then to pick up Kristi and rush to the sickbay with her. But he was the god damn CE here, and the ship appeared to be completely out of power.
After administering first aid, there was not much else he could do. For now Kristi was still out though she appeared stable. The dinner and a movie looked more like a visit to the sickbay with some flowers and a get well card now.

“Well the sooner we get power back, the sooner we can call for aid or use teleporters. Get to the consoles, find out what is wrong.”

He looked around the engineering. Normally it was busy with people, but right now only a handful were here. He looked for any working console, if nothing else, the one directly next to the warp core would have to tell him what was happening.
Did all the lousy repair finally caught up to them and doomed the ship?

As Mike approached the warp core, a figure appeared in the corner of his eye. “Captain Stone! Over here!”

Mike was beginning to suspect, there might be foul play afoot. No way were their systems so bad, that an all out failure would happen. Not out of the blue at least. He had one of the best Starfleet engineers looking over his shoulders, and making sure systems were operational. Unfortunately when he needed her most, she was unconscious some 20 ft away.

His security training started to kick in. Kristi was out cold, was she attacked on purpose?

When his name was called out, he didn’t reply immediately. First he checked who it was by turning his light in that direction.

Someone in an engineer’s uniform was waving him over to a console.

Kristi seemed to be dreaming, but tricorders only said so much. She was deep in a nightmare. Watching but unable to help, trapped outside her body.

Kristi whimpered softly then fell still again. Her breathing was sometimes easy and calm, other times elevated and shallow as if trying to run, or call out. But then, she would still once more and almost appear deathlike in her stillness.

It was the frustration at not being able to get Mike’s attention, despite standing right in front of him that made her dream self panic, causing her sleeping body react the way it was. She looked around and tried to figure out what had happened to her that no one seemed to be aware of her.

Still cautious, Mike approached the engineer that waved him over. “Do you have something?” He asked as he came closer.

He needed some answers, and soon.

“Captain? Do you need to go to sickbay? Looks like you hit your head. Either that or you’ve forgotten your chief engineer.”

Mike was glad it was dark, so no one could see him blush for a second. He responded to his old rank. But he decided instantly he won’t let anything confuse him and make him think of other things but his goal - get power back and help Kristy.

“I know i’m the CE, that is why i’ve been asking for status update for the last 5 minutes. Or perhaps you didn’t notice all the darkness. Now if you don’t have anything useful for me, I’ll be checking what’s up myself.”

He did shine his light again, in case he could recognise the person. But if he didn’t his intention was to get to the warp core and start with diagnostics.

Kristi ‘watched’ from her corporeal location and wondered what was happening. She moved around the engineering bay, realization that no one could see her slowly sinking in. She didn’t recognize the man talking to the Chief. Perhaps from another shift? And why did he call ‘Captain’? Was he not capable of telling Mike from the CO in the low light?

Mike was indeed looking at his former Chief. Or so he seemed to be. (OOC: I’ll let you name said person in case there’s anything not in the bio.) “Well. I think the lights are out due to a lack of power.” The engineer offered. “Do we know what actually caused the initial knockout? It might be an external event causing an internal mechanical fault. If so; what’s the event?”

As Kristi watched she was confronted by a ghostly figure, almost shapeless, save that it was humanoid. Welcome Kristiana O’Larria. Welcome to the place beyond places.

Kristi would have been surprised if things weren’t already so crazy. “A place beyond places? Am I dead?” She was suddenly more scared than confused. She couldn’t be dead. It hadn’t been that bad of a bump and Mike… she glanced at him and shook her head before looking back at the ghost. “I don’t want to die…” The words were soft, almost pleading.

“Lieutenant Akirel Ros....” Stone said as he recognised the man in front of him.
“It seems indeed we have a situation at hand, namely you have been missing for over a year. Care to explain how you ended up back here?” Mike was even more alert now.

It was almost impossible this was the same man. When he disappeared, he wasn’t alone. Four people were sucked into an unknown portal that just appeared on Viking. And some indeed returned after more then a year. Kara, the former CO. And Kalika Darz the security officer. But both returned as wrecks and barely alive. And Ros was just standing there, like nothing happened. No tare in his uniform or even a speck of dust could be seen.
