Luna looked over at the clock it was nearly 100 in the morning. Crenity still refuse to go to bed. She was insistent that there was a monster in her room. So Luna had taken to just letting her tired herself out, she did not have anymore energy to argue with her. So her they were in the living area with Crenity playing with some stuffed animals on the floor and Luna sitting on the couch half asleep watching her.

He was in pain. He had suffered. But Loki knew that the hell he had been subjected to, lost in the darkness with Nakuto, was nothing compared to how angry Luna would be when she saw he had returned! The last time Loki had seen his love, she had been carrying a child. His child. Their child. Had it survived? Was it a boy or a girl? Despite Loki’s trepidation at assuming the mantle of fatherhood, at the same time he could not wait to meet his little mini-me.

If Luna would let him.

He still remembered the way to her quarters. They had been his quarters once. Protected by the off-duty members of the Viking’s sparse security team and their ramshackle fortifications, built not to ward off people but…well, he’d had enough of monsters to last him several lifetimes.

Pausing at the door, he took a deep breath and then nervously ran a hand through his long blond hair and equally impressive beard. Then before his courage could desert him entirely, the security officer stuck out a hand and thumbed the door chime.

Luna looked at the door then to her child how was lost in her own world taking her stuffed bare on adventures. She wondered if it was a malfunction and considered ignoring it but something told her someone was there. She walked over to the door and opened it. When she saw Loki anger, frustration, pain, even disbelief danced across her face. “ your… you can’t…” she muttered.

Crenity had stoped playing to look up and recognize her father at the door. The almost two year old little girl looked just like her father with a set of her own wings. “ Daddy “ she asked walking up to stand by her mother.

All the pain, all the suffering, all the torment of the past year was washed away as Loki stared down into the eyes of the girl. His girl. She had called him ‘daddy’. She knew him. She knew he was hers just as much as she was his.

Swallowing hard to ward off the tears, Loki reached out to her. “Hey pumpkin,” he said as he scooped Crenity into his arms and held her tightly to him. She was…perfect.

His gaze moving now to Luna, he knew there was nothing he could say to excuse his absence. Instead he simply smiled. “She is an angel. Just like her mother.”

“Where did you go I thought you were dead” Luna said as he picked up Crenity. The child giggled then lay her head on his chest before falling asleep. Luna just looked at the two of the for a moment. “ let’s get you to sickbay, and angel not the word I would use. She is mischievous just like her dad” Luna said hugging both Loki and Crenity.

“She’s like me?” Loki choked out a reply, gazing down in wonder at the tiny being snuggled into his chest. It was more that he ever could have hoped for, longed for. In that moment he made a silent promise that he would never leave them again. That he would be the best and most loving father Crenity could ever wish for.

But the question hung in the air between them, an unspoken barrier built of anger and confusion and…time. So much time. How long had he been gone? Crenity was already walking and talking - milestones that he had missed and would never be able to regain.

“Oh Luna,” he sighed. “I…it was…the dark, Luna. The dark took me and I feared it would never let me go.”
Barely an explanation. But how to put into words so that she could understand the pain, the endless torture he had endured?
“I followed the Captain into the portal. It was Nakuto, Commander Guerin and myself. We were searching for the others, for Navidson and for Parker and…we couldn’t find them. They’re still in there. Nakuto made it out first, she’s on the ship somewhere. But not Guerin. She…she’s gone. Guerin is gone.”

He offered Luna a weak smile. “But I’m here. I made it out. I made it back to you.”
Reaching out a hand, he caressed the face of his love, the mother of his child. “I’m here now, Luna. And I will never leave you and Crenity ever again.”
