CNS Office - Nakuto looks for a friendly face

Posted by Captain Kara Nakuto (Civilian, Former CO) in CNS Office - Nakuto looks for a friendly face
Ta’lahali Beveres. Of all the memories that Kara Nakuto still retained from her former life as the CO of the USS Viking, the young Kenyan’s calm demeanour and poignant wisdom was one of her most cherished. Selfish, in truth, for her to wish the Counselor still onboard. For nobody deserved to remain shackled to this accursed vessel for…how long had it been now? A year? And yet deep down, after the unrelenting torture of the last few days, the half-Klingon knew that to see anyone else seated in the CNS chair but Beveres herself would be enough to crush Kara’s fragile spirit entirely.

Had she thought of Nakuto at all over the past year? Had any of them? Kara had no right to expect any trace of loyalty, affection…even acknowledgement from her one-time crew. She had entered the mysterious corridor without even a seconds pause to consider the wider implications of her actions…and in doing so had abandoned her people to the storm. And now she had returned, broken, tormented, haunted…a wreck that should have been left to rot in the belly of the abyss. She was no good to them now, had nothing left to give while still needing to take all. And yet somewhere, deep down in the core of her being where a glimmer of humanity remained, Kara Nakuto hoped, prayed to all the gods who might listen, that behind this door she would find the thing she needed the most right now. A friend.

OOC: I’m not going to lie, my heart skipped a beat, in surprise. Haha! Welcome back. :D

IC:

Ta’lahali had been able to brave the oncoming winds of adversity, as they blew against her, forcing her to set up every wall and unbreakable defense against them. However, in all of her hope, she had been no stranger to the malicious atmosphere the old ship so often found itself portraying. She recalled the conversation she had experienced, when first aboard this vessel. A quaint discussion with a Captain daring the Counselor to step foot into the chain of officers, or perhaps it was more of an invitation. Whatever it was, she had found that marverick of a woman had been correct. This ship, it was a flurry of danger and inexplicable chaos, but beneath it all, was a place nobody could ever forget.

Faint lines of exhaustion rested beneath youthful eyes, as rigid fingers moved to and fro between two different PaDDs. Since the Captain’s departure, she had never gotten around to fixing the replicator, and the petite, splotched guinea pig had soon grown to be a well-fed joy to be around. Yet, while the surroundings had not changed, the woman situated behind that desk, had. She recognized her foolhardy thoughts to believe this was going to be anything like her previous assignments. Kara had warned her, expressing certainty that this ship was worthy of nightmares and of concern. However, it was not until she was out of the honeymoon phase, that she realized these warnings.. to be truths.

Rising to her feet, she pushed the PaDD away, chuckling softly at the faint chirp of the sleeping Elphaba. “Spoiled much, are we?” She hummed, her accent ever present upon her dark tongue. Running her fingers delicately along her back, she headed towards the door, by means of heading to the mess hall, as to retrieve a cup of black coffee, what that tired heart of hers so desperately needed. However, the moment she opened the door, she was astonished to find the one person she didn’t expect to be there. It was that classic: ‘holy crap’ moment you see in the movies, where the person is dumbstruck into being frozen.

“I knew it! God dammit. I knew those ghosts would come around, eventually!” It wasn’t hard to tell that the counselor was attempting to evade her surprise with a joke. “Kara?” She asked, as if trying to figure out if the Klingon hybrid were real, and not just a figment of her imagination.

OOC: Oh how I’ve missed reading your amazing posts, Trinity! And still just as poetic as ever! I’m also delighted to see Elphaba still around :D

IC: Kara glanced down at her emaciated form, a trace of self-consciousness crossing her ridged brow. “Ghost?” she murmured. “Maybe I am…I have not entirely decided yet…”

But here before her stood the most miraculous sight. Her anchor. Her most trusted friend and confidant. Tal. Despite her own weakness, Nakuto reached out and pulled the other woman into a tight hug. This. This was real. Solid. Flesh connecting with flesh. Perhaps Kara had indeed made it out alive. For there was no corner in her nightmares for a woman such as Tal.

Stepping back and allowing the Kenyan to breathe once more, Nakuto studied her intently. “You look good, considering our surroundings,” she remarked. “I…I am glad you made it, Tal. I am glad you are still here.” A wry smile flitted across her lips, a momentary glimmer of the Kara of old, as she added, “Although perhaps you are not so glad as I.”

Sensing that she had caught the Counselor in transit, the half-Klingon glanced down the dimly-lit corridor. “Might I walk with you for a moment, Counselor?” she asked hopefully. “I have great need to talk to you.”
