OOC: This thread takes place inline with the Sickbay Thread at https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf8/viking/notes/4844/ - I would very much like all senior staff to take part in this.IC: After attending sickbay to be informed of the CO’s medical status Nevin had headed to the Observation Lounge. He stood looking out through the large window at the stars streaking by. He could not help wondering if he was going to loose another CO. Certainly doing so would not speak well of his abilities as an XO or as a medical professional. He sincerely hoped the Captain would be back on her feet again soon. If not it would almost certainly end his career aspirations of a ship of his own. Since become XO of the Viking he had been turned down his own ship twice. The Forrester which he had been expecting to take over had been handed to one of his Academy friends who had CO experience already. The second was the Viking herself. After the unexplained dissapearance of the previous CO, he had assumed command for almost 9 weeks before Ravenfall had been appointed.
He studied the stars in a pensive mood. He glanced down at the padd in his right hand and began to type a message.
It read:
‘To All Senior Staff,
Please reported to Oberservation Lounge at 06:30 for briefing.
Many Thanks,
Commander Akorem’He looked at the message for a moment. it was currently just after 06:00. He messaged an instruction to the galley before adding to his message:
‘PS. Breakfast will be available.’
He tossed the Padd onto the table. it clattered as it slid to a halt in it’s intended position at the head of the table. After another 15 minutes of staring into space lost in his thoughts, Nevin used the window to look at his reflection and attempted to tidy his hair with his hands. Due to staff rotations he had not yet met all of the senior staff. He headed to the table to check all of the pronunciations of the CSO’s name trying to work out if it was pronounce ‘Sanks’ or ‘Sanecks’
Five minutes before the briefing was due to start, the chime to the door rang. That would be the galley staff. Only they would ring the chime and wait for permission to enter.
“Come in,” Nevin said. The door opened and they brought a selection of continental breakfast selection consisting of a range of pastries, toast, fruit wich they placed on the table along side steaming pots of tea, coffee & hot chocolate.
The strong aroma’s were starting to fill the room…
-Akorem
Immediately behind them came the smiling face of the CSO, carrying a tray of utensils and napkins. “Apologies, Commander. Their hands were full.” and he walked the tray over and sat it down near the food. “I don’t believe we have had the pleasure, Sir. Lieutenant Sanx” he said, pronouncing the name like ‘Sanks’ , and extending his hand.
Lt. Sanx, CSO
Nevin extended his hand and shook the CSO’s. inwardly he was pleased that the man had introduced himself to avoid the emabrassment of any mis-pronunciations.
“Commander Akorem,” Nevin said by means of intriduction. “No need for explanations,” he said regarding assisting the galley staff, “A good leader always leads by example and should never ask anyone to do something he isn’t prepared to do himself.”
Next to enter was the comically large Intelligence officer. He held a metal cup of Coffee and was reading his daily Intelligence briefing. He entered the room and looked up from the PaDD “Commander” He nodded to the XO and took a seat before looking at the Denobulan “Lieutenant Sannx” There was an accented pronunciation, the first notible example of the Icelandic accent he apparantly had.
CIO
“Don’t you like the Galley’s coffee?” asked the CIO with a grin. It was genuine. his heart and mind had been heavy and for just a moment he had forgotten the severity of their situation.
It was no more a wait than a few, brief moments, before a diminutive female followed in the footsteps of the larger structured men. She inclined her head to the officers whom had already gathered at the Commander’s simple request. “Commander Akorem,” She inclined her head, politely, her characteristic, altruistic smile painted across her otherwise colourless lips.
“Morning, Counsellor,” Nevin replied to the counsellor.
Her auburn gaze drifted to the towering CIO and his counterpart, the genial CSO. “Sigmundsson, Sanx.” When spoken, each of their names was laced by th Kenyan accent of an African descendant, making Sanx’s name become even more peculiar or a pronunciation.
Lt. Beveres
CNSThat just left the Security Chief, Chief Engineer and Chief Medical Officer to arrive. He expected SEAI to be arrive dead on the 06:30 mark - The android had a flare for precision. She would also not be interested in the breakfast. Stone was often a few minutes late, but never out of tardiness, usually out of finishing up the repair he was on at the time. Regarding the COS he wasn’t sure if Tel had arrived back, or wether Darz would be attending in his place. Darz had been looking after the security department during Tel’s absence.
“Please help yourselves,” Nevin said indicating to the spread that had been placed on the table, “We’ll give the others a few more minutes before I begin the briefing.”
Nevin placed his mug on the corner of the table and rather than sitting in his own chair to the right hand side of the Captain’s, he took her seat at the head of the table. This would be the first indication to those present as to the nature of the briefing…
-Akorem
Sanx noted the seating arraignment, and merely shrugged inwardly. He took a seat on the XO’s right hand side of the table, about halfway down. He placed a cup and saucer on the table in front of him, and then sat down.
Sanx. CSO
“Good morning everyone.” Mike said cheerfully. “I hope I’m not late.” He added and took an empty chair next to CSO. “The cartography is, I hope, running fine?” He asked.
It was a little known fact, that Mike like to be punctual and hated being delayed by anything. Unfortunately as CE on a ship like Viking, with so many problams....punctuality was the least of the problems.
