The last entry from before the gap was from a survey team who were investigating a series of caves discovered on the outskirts of the colony boundary then there was a gap of 10 days before logs started up again, just after the survey teams had left the planet. The explanation given for the gap in the logs had been a large electric storm which had fried their computers and survey equipment, losing the logs from their systems.

“Hmm,” Nevin said quite puzzled wonderring if log entries after that detailed some of what the survey team had found and where the caves were in relation to the colony itself.

“It might be a longshot but perhaps we should visit those caves, after we link up with the Captain” The Icelandic giant said after a moments thought “until we hear back from the other teams we won’t know exactly what’s going on by looking at incomplete records”

CIO

“Let’s give the doctors some space to do their work,” Nevin said, “Commander, Lieutenant. Walk with me.”

Lucas double checked that everything was well in hand before turning and followed the XO.

COS Mackenzie

Once around a corridor and out of earshot of any of the colony’s staff Nevin stopped and turned to face the other two officers that were with him.

“I’ve seen data blocks missing like that before, it was too clean. The data was never wiped by a natural phenomenon,” Nevin said in a low and hesitant voice. Sigmundsson would have also seen similar data gaps when he was looking into Nevin’s past.

“This colony was to be established on an uninhabitted world and they spent an aweful long time looking for one. What if…” Nevin stopped speaking as an NE walked around the corner. He simply raised his eyebrows hoping that MacKenzie and Sigmundsson would understand what he was suggesting.

He continued after the NE had passed, “If the data wipe was deliberate and the caves were someone’s home; then someone knew.”
