If he had done any homework on his new DH, he would know she was half Orion, her chemical abilities didn’t constant follow her like full bloods. She had never been taken to task for them and never abused them. Her office was in the brig and the brig was one of the places where ‘anomalous’ things happened. Namely, there was a cell that alternated between empty and lit, to powered up with its force field, the lights would flicker and an ‘entity’ seemed to occupy the space. Cell 2 was off limits because of the behavior, like lots of places on the ship. His indoc info to the ship would be sadly lacking unless he had looked anything up once here. On board info would include several decks and spaces marked as ‘off limits’ due to inconsistent lights, atmosphere and gravity issues. While the brig was one of the places listed as ‘partially unstable’, the Chief of Security still maintained an office here.
Lt Kalika Darz
CoS“If every time I knock on this door, a female rounds this corner, I think I’m going to like it here.” He thought, then mentally yelled at himself. He could hear his father scolding him, “Thoughts like that will bring dishonor to your house.” But he could not stop looking at how beautiful she was, even if she was his DH. He knew she was half Orion, but he didn’t think this was her pheromones effecting him… He blinked and then told her,
“I am ensign Tath’ihl, of the House of Sharvi, I am looking for the chief of security so that I may report for my first day of duty.”
Ensign Sharvi
SecurityKalika was as impressed as he was. But as he turned and she saw the tell tale signs of him being Klingon, the smile remained, but the mental cry was hidden. Another Klingon, was Fate being cruel? She shook herself and went into the office. She was grateful when the lights came on, “Welcome to the Viking, Tath’ihl,” and moved to the back of the desk. “I’m Kalika Darz, your new Department Head and Chief of Security.” She leaned on the wall and looked at him. Her pronunciation of his name was near spot perfect, inflection and all. It was one of the things ‘he’ had taught her when they were together. She had a smattering of understanding of her new officer’s language, though not enough to conversate completely. More a case of simple greetings and niceties.
She paused a moment then offered him a seat. The office was small. It barely fit the desk and her chair as well as one on his side of it. There was a board on the wall with the ship schematics on it as if hand drawn. More than a quarter of the ship was marked in red and showing off limits. Almost another quarter was marked as potentially unstable. On her desk was a scattering of padds and info sticks. There was also a bat’leth on the back wall, the only decoration in the whole room. “So, what brings you to our happily haunted ship?” The words were kind, but she was studying him. Some folks came to the Viking trying to prove something to themselves, or someone else. Kalika had shown up almost by accident and stayed because there wasn’t anywhere else for her to go. She was curious what Tath’s story was. She just hoped he wasn’t here trying to prove his Klingon prowess on a ‘troubled’ ship.
Kalika
CoSHe walked into her office and was taken aback by how small of a space they gave her. He looked at the board and saw most of the ship was shut down, then his eyes landed on the bat’leth, and he wandered to himself why she would have that. he figured that would be a conversation for another day, so he took a seat.
“I was assigned by starfleet and the klingon empire endorsed it. My father, I mean the leader of the Great house of Martok wants more peace between starfleet and the klingons after our last war and Worf joining the Great house of Martok. And he’s decided that more klingons should get invested into starfleet, I’m just here trying not to dishonor my family’s name.” He responded to her question.
Ensign SharviKalika nodded and finally sat down. There was no point in looming over the man. Her own insecurities were no business of his. He didn’t deserve to suffer for the trauma her past had wrought, or that this ship kept doing to keep that wound open and raw. “I think it’s commendable to be here for honor. But if you are here ‘only’ for that, tell me now. I don’t want someone running around trying to play hero just to get a name for themselves. Do you understand? I want officers wanting to help with a ship that drives people mad, makes them appear and disappear, and gives us trouble at every turn. I need a level head, not a hot head. Can you do that?”
She leaned on her arms and scrutinized him as he spoke his answers. Another thing the Klingon lover had taught her was subtle body language, posturing and facial ticks that would give away lies and discomfort. Lots of folks trusted her, but some still thought she abused her Orion abilities. She needed to know this wasn’t going to be one of the latter.
Kalika
CoS“Yes, Ma’am. I understand.” He said, unsure if the stance she took was meant to be threatening. He was not scared of her. He actually found her attractive, though there was an aurora about her that made him doubt that he should. Something was telling him he may not be able to fully trust in her, he decided to push that feeling away.
Kalika nodded. “Good…” Her body relaxed a bit. Perhaps he ‘would’ be a good addition. “Well for now I’ll have you on third shift with me. It’s when we patrol the OFF LIMITS spaces and check the places that reported issues during the day shifts. If you don’t have experience with grav boots or rescue suits, let me know and we will find time to practice on the holo decks. No bravado. If you aren’t familiar with the equipment, say something. I’d rather wait and train you than rescue you.”
As she sat there, the lights in the holding area flickered on and off. She sighed and ignored it. But then it happened again. “Welcome to the Viking,” she murmured and got up to go see what the ‘ship’ wanted. When Tath had come in, the six holding cells were empty, dim lights showing in each cell, and no containment field on any of them. If he followed her out, this time cell two would have a field activated and inside was flickering lights and a shadowy figure paced slowly. It’s outline shimmering between sharp enough to see and hazy enough to doubt it is there at all.
“I’ve worn them during the war. No heroics.” He assured her. he walked out of the office with her and saw the figure pacing in the second cell, with the force field activated. “That wasn’t on when we entered your office. and there was no sounds of anyone putting him in there while we were talking… Is he one of the ghosts that you were talking about?” He asked, not sure if he should have his phaser on stun at the ready…
Her right hand went to his arm in a gentle motion to remind him not to draw. “At ease, Tath… yes, this is the ship’s way of talking to me. I can’t ever tell what it wants, but it will let me know by tomorrow, I am sure.” Realizing she was still holding his arm, he dropped her hand. “I assure you the field is live, so don’t think to merely walk thru it. But once the field is deactivated, the ‘occupant’ disappears. So you can’t get in to question him, or even figure out if it’s real.” She looked at him and frowned. “You are the first newcomer that it’s reacted to. I don’t know why, but I can tell you to be careful. This ship will toss your fears back at you. It will make every private thought an audible stab to your consciousness and if you aren’t careful, whoever in your past hurt you most, will likely walk up to you and slap your face. So to speak,” she sighed and her arms crossed over her middle as if she was suddenly cold.
She stared at the ‘occupant’ as it stopped in the middle of the cell and faced her. She guessed it faced her, but with it being almost incorporeal, it was hard to tell for sure. She just had a ‘feeling’ that it was staring at her. A hand rose to point at Tath, then… then it swung slowly to point at Kalika. The lights flickered again and suddenly it was over. The cell was empty, the forcefield gone and the lights back to normal illumination. Whatever was happening, Tath was now part of the ship. Whether he liked it or not.
“Did he have ridges? He looked like a klingon.” He said as he could see her shaking. He felt like hugging her, but he didn’t think it was appropriate. He felt like she wanted to be alone. “Ok, well, I got other check ins, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow night for the start of our next shift.” He said as he walked off toward the sick bay.
