“ I know the are afraid of you you were to strong for them to turn into shadows and daddy loved mommy to much for them to keep him” she said smiling. The child did not understand why Kara seamed worryed it did not make sense to her.

Impossible not to feel a bristle of pride at the words, even when spoken by a child. “You were too strong for them.”
Oh, the nights she had lain awake, struggling to resist the fear coursing through her. Nakuto had questioned, every day, her own courage or lack of it. But it seemed, to the monsters at least, she had succeeded in her imitation of courage. No matter how superficial it might have been.

And Loki. If his love for Luna had been the key to his own release from the darkness, what form did her own key take? Her love for the crew? For the ship? Had not Guerin and Parker and Navidson loved with equal measure? Perhaps then there was still hope, that they too would find the emotional dagger to cut loose from their shackles and break free?

“Yes,” Nakuto roared in agreement. “These…things, they wander alone for all of eternity. They know not the love and the companionship that we as living entities possess. No wonder they hate us so, for surely our presence only reminds them of all the things they have lost?”

She sensed that the child might be tired and had no wish to overwhelm her with an unending barrage of questions. But still there was one more thing she needed to ask.

“Crenity, what do the monsters want from us? Is there something we can do to make them leave?”

Crenity hinged the captain and smiled. “ for the light to come back” she said sleepily. Then the child fell asleep. “ why is it everyone else can got my doughter to bed exsept me?” Luna said giggling. “ I wonder if Loki’s parents will come visit her now that they know about her” Luna said a bit worryed in light of the child’s new ability.

Kara could see the tension etched across Luna’s face. Impossible for her to grasp how painful it must be for a mother to see her own child so tormented. Reaching across the table, the former captain took hold of her security officer’s hand.

“She will be okay, Luna. I promise. I am not about to let anything happen to her. And if I know Loki then I am sure that he would pledge the same.”

Removing her tattered uniform jacket, Kara draped it over the sleeping form of Crenity, before sitting back and cradling her raktajino.

“How is Loki?” she asked Luna after a time. “Does he seem affected at all by his time in the dark?”

“He’s fine I think. I don’t know he’s kind of scatter brained and gets distracted easily. Like I told you earlier Crenity broke her wing wail he was watching her. Granted she is impossible to keep up with so I can’t blame him for it, I think he just needs time to adjust. You know the holidays are coming up you up for throwing a party in here like we use to in the old days” Luna said with a smile.

Nakuto’s expression turned to one of deep concern. The child had been injured while being caref for by her father? It was not like Loki to make such a careless mistake and especially not where his own daughter was concerned. Luna might have been willing to dismiss the occurance as due to Crenity’s own boisterousness, but deep down, Kara worried there was more to the situation than that.

“Has Loki been seen by the Counselor since his return?” she asked next. Her own life had been thrown into chaos since her re-emergence from the void, she could not even begin to imagine how turbulent it must feel for Loki with a new daughter to contend with on top of all else.

“ I don’t think so, Crenity can be a bit difficult to put it miledly she has a lot of everget and she has even escaped from me several time. I’m shure Loki is just agusting here is he he should have been back by now” Luna said a bit consurned.

She had no desire to labour the point, uncomfortable as she was with the prospect of Luna covering for the failings of her partner. But in truth, would Kara not do the same for someone she loved? Had she not, more times than she cared to recall, taken a similar divertionary approach to the misguided actions of her own sister?

“I am sure you know best, Luna,” Nakuto concluded.

As for Luna’s suggestion of a party, the idea invoked a deep rumble of laughter from the half-Klingon.
“Well Luna, I am no longer in charge here and do not know Captain Ravenfall’s own thoughts on the season. But,” she added, glancing around the echoing hall, “I think a few decorations and perhaps a festive feast would do much to lift the spirits of the crew?”

“ that’s what I was thinking to” luna said giggling.

Now the grin spreading across the half-Klingon’s face could rival any seasonal lighting display for its dazzling brilliance.

Leaning forward in her seat, she spoke almost conspiratorially to Luna.
“Let us make it happen!” she roared with unbridled delight. “I seem to recall some leftover crates of decorations in the cargo bay. Perhaps, when you are free, you might accompany me on a scavenger hunt?”

Ensign Sharvi walked in and sat down at the bar. After the day of check-ins he had, he needed and felt like he deserved a blood wine.
