“There not monsters, not all of them sum of them were part of are world. The monsters are the ones that made them shadow and have control of the ship.” Crenity said not at all bothered.

Kara nodded. Somehow she’d known, or sensed, that some of the entities on the Viking had once been human. How they had found themselves trapped for an eternity in such a miserable, ethereal state onboard the vessel remained unknown. But perhaps Crenity would be the key to further understanding?

“Crenity,” she continued slowly, “do you know why the monsters made them shadow? What had they done to deserve such a fate?”

“ Kara she has to be emaginig this” Luna’s said. She was understandably consurned for Crenity’s well being. Crenity looked at her mom then at the captain. “ they are real there’s one behind you” she said pointing at a random shadow. “ they don’t know why the shadow monsters atack them.” The child added after a moment.

Impossible not to react to Crenity’s words, Nakuto found herself firing a glance over her shoulder. There was nobody there…nobody that could be seen with the eye, at any rate. But Kara knew that the child spoke the truth, she coukd sense it, had been able to sense these entities presence ever since her return from the void.

Turning to Luna, she could only offer a shrug.
“I believe that Crenity speaks the truth, Luna,” she admitted. “I…I can feel them behind me. Behind you. They stalk all of us. All the time.”

“ I am definitely scheduling her an appointment with the consuler” Luna said shaking her head great that’s the last thing she needed. As if it was not bad enough the scientist may be after her because of her wings now she could talk to weard shadow creaters.

Kara nodded her agreement. “It might be beneficial to speak to the Counselor. For both of you.”

Returning her attention to the child, the half-Klingon reached out and took the tiny hands into her own.
“They can not hurt you, Crenity,” she attempted to reassure the infant. “I know that their presence can be…frightening. But you are safe here, Crenity. Your mummy and your daddy and I, we are all here to protect you. Do you understand?”

“ I know the are afraid of you you were to strong for them to turn into shadows and daddy loved mommy to much for them to keep him” she said smiling. The child did not understand why Kara seamed worryed it did not make sense to her.

Impossible not to feel a bristle of pride at the words, even when spoken by a child. “You were too strong for them.”
Oh, the nights she had lain awake, struggling to resist the fear coursing through her. Nakuto had questioned, every day, her own courage or lack of it. But it seemed, to the monsters at least, she had succeeded in her imitation of courage. No matter how superficial it might have been.

And Loki. If his love for Luna had been the key to his own release from the darkness, what form did her own key take? Her love for the crew? For the ship? Had not Guerin and Parker and Navidson loved with equal measure? Perhaps then there was still hope, that they too would find the emotional dagger to cut loose from their shackles and break free?

“Yes,” Nakuto roared in agreement. “These…things, they wander alone for all of eternity. They know not the love and the companionship that we as living entities possess. No wonder they hate us so, for surely our presence only reminds them of all the things they have lost?”

She sensed that the child might be tired and had no wish to overwhelm her with an unending barrage of questions. But still there was one more thing she needed to ask.

“Crenity, what do the monsters want from us? Is there something we can do to make them leave?”
