USS Viking

On the shelf

Eldorin’s gun sat on the shelf, a nickle plated FN M1900 serial number 504,223. The FN logo was nearly worn away and countless rounds of .32 ACP had been cycled through it as Eldorin had trained and trained with the weapon on Earth. He had possessed countless weapons from firearms to phasers, disruptors to ion beam weapons. That Browning gun though, it was something else and Eldoin had kept it well maintained, albeit well loved. The pistol sat on the shelf, doing what display pistols do which isn’t much of anything at all really. It was a shelf, not too dissimilar from the shelf back on the estate but it didn’t have the dimples that the gun liked to rest in. There was something else about this shelf. It kept moving! Not like in a perceptible way, but the shelf and everything attached to it kept going faster than anyone alive designing or producing that weapon could have dreamed. And here it was, number 504,233 traveling the stars and doing it’s best to figure out exactly how it had managed to survive all these years. Philosophy is a topic thought up by many display weapons as they are well past their useful lifetimes, for this gun it was indeed about 400 years too old, but back to thoughts it was, sitting on the shelf and making sure to be ready should Eldorin ever need to go shooting again
