USS Viking
Main sim engineering
Posted by Ensign Viktoryia Ravenfall (Commanding officer) in Main sim engineering : : : : : : : : : : : She was making slow and steady progress in certain systems. However, in the key systems, the adversary was proving hard to fight against, all the while, the voice kept on speaking, =/\=So you think that you can stop me? It is not logical to continue to resist. You are only prolonging the unavoidable.=/\= After the last statement, the lights in engineering shut off, further hindering Kristiana’s efforts. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Ultimate Squid (GMT) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Because I’m stubborn…” Kristi murmured to herself under her breath. As the lights went off, she had an idea. It was pushing so hard to enter the vital systems, she smiled to herself. Leaving up the small ‘speed bumps’ , she moved to the end systems. She set a couple blocks up in front of them and then tried to build a ‘corridor’ of open information backwards from there to where she was hoping the ‘front’ of the AI was pushing from. If it worked out, when she lifted the hinderances, the AI would think it had a straight, unhindered shot to the systems. If it didn’t pay attention and shot straight for the ‘unprotected’ system, it would land in a mirrored loop. Every place it leaked to from there would hopefully, if she cyphered it right, would lead it back to the place it began. Shaking her head in worry and knowing even that would only be a small stop gap, she tried to once more stop the AI where it was. Each try getting less and less effective as if she were slipping, getting tired, making mistakes. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : She bit her lip. “I can’t let you take the ship…” her words paused now and then with true fatigue and staggered breath. “You do this to survive…so… do I....” Tears were starting to fill her eyes. Why was this happening? What was so special about the planet that the AI would rather kill them than beam everyone aboard and shoot them into space? Nothing was making sense to her. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Kristiana O’Larria : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Engineer : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The medical AI looks at Kristiana, “Take some deep breaths, we can’t have you falling to a panic attack right now.” By now, she had stabilized the NE, “Take it from me, sometimes the best way to beat a computer is to do what is least logical.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Ultimate Squid (GMT) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Kristi growled slightly under her breath. “Least logical… least logical…” She bowed her head and rested it on the console a moment, a deep sigh falling from her lips like a expulsion of everything irritating exiting her at once. What was ‘least logical’? : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : She lifted herself up and stared at the path the AI was waltzing thru the systems. Her brain went back and forth over the console. What could she do to catch it off guard? Where was it going and how could she make another system more… appeasing… to it? : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Kristi O’Larria : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Engineer : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : =/\= Engineering we need everything you can give us! What ever has taken over the ship. It is hurling us toward the planet’s atmosphere.=/\= Her voice never wavered. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ravenfall, CO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Kristi tapped her badge, =^=Working on it, Bridge…=^= She moved to another console and tried to reroute power to the engines. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : She bit her lip, perhaps if she let it into the database a bit further… She had an idea and hoped it would work. She cleared the path the main information banks. Making it look like she missed a place to ‘shore it up’ she once more went back to trying to stop it. The path was there, but not so blatantly obvious that it would ‘look’ obvious. As she keyed the engines to prepare for more power, she watched the process of the AI. With luck, it would move towards the breach and give its back to her long enough to key up the engines. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Kristi O’Larria : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Engineer : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The AI was in full on attack mode, and that meant forcing it’s way into any section that it could get it’s hands into. It moved towards the ‘breach’, sacrificing it’s processing power in other sections. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Ultimate Squid (GMT) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : As the AI moved towards the breach she had set up, Kristi began as far back as she could and rerouted and closed off systems far enough out of ‘sight’ of the virus that ‘hopefully’ it wouldn’t catch on to what she was doing. In the meantime, she was mouthing her words to the NE beside her so if the AI was tapped into the comms it wouldn’t hear her. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : As the engines lurched she growled and mouthed to the NE, “See if you can get the engines to even out. We may slow down, but we will keep from ripping apart. And have NE Parker run to the bridge and let her know what we are doing here. I don’t want anything over the comms if not absolutely necessary.” That made her light up with an idea. “Tell whoever is on charge on the bridge that I recommend runners for now to engineering or anyplace else they need to send communication to. Maybe we can find a way to patch in video on a secured line so we can be in touch immediately without using the actual comms if we need. But till then, I recommend nothing go over the comms.” She added for him to grab all the extra folks she could, preferably off duty engineers, to be stationed between engineering and the bridge to deal with not just power issues, but to pass the orders and progress as needed. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : She moved across the console with her fingers and smiled. The NE nodded and grinned at her thought and took off at a jog to the bridge. With luck, they could stall the AI even if they couldn’t completely stop it right away. Either way, they HAD to get back to the planet to save the others. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Kristi O’Larria : : : : : : : : : : : : Engineer : : : : : : : : : : : : ((OOC runner is going to bridge thread)) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : (Bump 2.14.18) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Gentle nudge : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: There seems to be a bit of misplaced communication, so I will fix things up a bit. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The virus seemed to be following the path that it was given. At the moment, the aggressiveness of the virus seemed to be toned down a bit, as if it was focusing on something else. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The runner came back, “Ma’am, the Captain seems to have approved your plan.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Ultimate Squid (GMT) : : : : : : : : ((OOC… my bad, somehow I didn’t refresh long enough back… lost the thread… Meli)) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : As the virus moved, Kristi bit her lip and grinned slightly. It was working. She slowly tried to close off the ‘escape routes’ of the virus as she moved to the engines and made sure they were isolated first. Building the ring of blockages out from there, she slowly began to corner the virus in the data banks where it would soon be without access to anything more than the training consoles in each section of the ship. The simulated systems there were completely autonomous from actual main ship systems. Used to train crewmen on the aspects of their jobs they needed to know, but without the risk to the actual ship. “Just… a… little… more…” she murmured as she tried to shore up the last few exit routes of the virus. In one or two more minutes, she would have control of engines back. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Kristi O’Larria : : : : : : : : Engineer : : : : : : : : : : : : : : At the same time that the hologram got shot planetside, there was a faltering in the AI’s aggressiveness. In that second, the EMH smiled, “My turn.” At that moment, all systems on the ship under friendly control seemed to pause, before thrusting forward in one aggressive push. The engines were the first to be taken back, followed by computer systems that were affected on multiple decks. A scream echoed through the comms as the attacking AI was pushed back, and was soon only present in the short term memory of the communications systems. The EMH turned to Kristi, “I have her pinned, the rest is up to you.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Ultimate Squid (GMT) : : : : : : : : : : : : A gasp hit Kristi as the ship lurched. But she had been ready. “Bless ya, darling…” her Irish lilt leaked thru her words as she stabilized herself. While it wasn’t ‘how’ she thought it would occur… it occurred none the less. As the EMH turned to her, she nodded and bit her lip. Fingers danced rapidly over the comm as she moved closer and closer to isolate the rogue AI and box it in the knowledge looped net she had created for it. “Alll.... most.... there....” another minute and she would have it. If the EMH could keep the little tyke from figuring things out… : : : : : : : : : : : : just another minute.... : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Kristi : : : : : : EngineerBump 6.14.18
=/\= well done Ensign. The AI has ben purged from our systems. Can you tell if there will be any negative impact from her attack?=/\=
