USS Viking
CSO quarters (all welcome)
: : : : : : : : : : : Sanx walked into his quarters and sat down. It had been a long and grueling day, and he just wanted to take a break. After a few moments of rubbing his temples, he stood up and got a glass of water. Looking it, it was off-colored and hazy. He ran his tricorder over it, and found it was half water and half milk. He threw the glass in the recycler, tried again. Coffee. One more time, and it was water.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I hate this ship.” he thought to himself.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sanx, CSO
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: I don’t believe Tal has had the chance to ‘torture’ Sanx, yet. Lol
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : IC: Ta’lahali spent a lot of her time between two specific things, work and research. It wasn’t rare that she was ever in one place for very long, as she didn’t mind making house calls- until an entire sickbay of people is experience mass hysteria of ghosts from their pasts. However, that was a story for a much different time.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Deciding it would be best to check up on a few of the officers, she headed towards Sanx’s quarters, her face giving off the faint smile that never seemed to leave. Now, whether or not this smile was engine, well.. that was hard to tell. Pausing by his door, she tapped a dark finger against the chime, waiting for an answer.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Beveres
: : : : : : : : : : : : : The Counselor Who Hasn’t Been Scared Off.. yet.
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: I always welcome torture. Keeps the mind sharp! lol
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Sanx heard the chime and walked ot the door. Opening it, he said simply “Yes?”
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Sanx, CSO
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Haha!
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : IC: “Hello,” Tal waved. She was an ambivert, thus having no issue with starting conversations. “I do believe we have only met once before, do correct me if I am wrong. Anyways, I’ve come to check up on you, psychologically speaking.” She held a friendly tone, hardly akin to the forced natures of other psychiatrists. She was genuinely content, contrary to popular belief.

: : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Beveres
: : : : : : : : : : : CNS
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : Sanx looked confused for a second, but then said “Well, I have no issues that I am aware of. But you are welcome to come in, if you’d like. May I get you something to drink?” the affable and friendly scientist asked as he motioned her inside.
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : Sanx, CSO
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Tal seemed surprised for a second. Usually, when she came about for these checks, she was met with irrtation and general snappiness towards the absurdity of a such a thing- understandably, it was. “Certainly,” Beveres nodded and stepped into the quarters. “Water, please, if that is alright?”
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : “Have you been doing well on the Viking? One might say it is difficult being an officer upon this.. eccentric ship.”
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Lt. Beveres
: : : : : : : : : CNS
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Sanx retrieved the water and brought it to her. “Please, have a seat.” he said politely and took a seat of his own. “And to answer your question… I must say no. I am not. And it’s not the ship’s… eccentricities… that are the issue for me. It is the staff and crew’s seemingly resigned attitude that these things should be present. I’m sorry, Counselor, but I find it less than professional that such matters, up to the degree of life and death, are simply allowed to fester. That is, to me, absolutely inexcusable. And that is making my tenure here… well… less desirable by the day.” and he took a drink of a pale pink liquid he held in his hand.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Sanx, CSO
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Tal gave him a look of gratitude, thanking him before bringing the water to her lips and taking a seat, as was offered. She did not speak during his response, considering his words with great care and thoughtfulness. She knew she could not offer any opinion, without being asked. It was not as if this were some kind of inhibition, merely a guideline or ethics regarding the stance of a psychologist or psychiatrist, to which, she was both.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : “Are there any specific instance that you can name, where these inexcusable actions have been most present?” There was no way she could disagree with him, as she had watched the decline of aspects of the ship, and the rise of others, throughout the recent change in command. Crossing one leg over the other, she curiously tilted her head to one side, wishing to understand more regarding his observations and opinions.

: : : : : :
: : : : : : Sanx nodded and said “Let’s take the Labs. for instance. Half of them are sealed off because the staff, and I quote, “… are afraid to go into the rooms.” Never in my entire career have I heard of such a thing. Something happened and, rather than investigate and solve the problem or identify the threat, they literally put caution tape across the door and walked away. I have never even thought of that as a solution someone would consider appropriate on a star ship.”
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Sanx, CSO
: : : : :
: : : : : “For any other ship, Mister Sanx, I would agree with you, and I still mostly do, here.” She began, choosing her words carefully, to attempt to avoid any rude nature. “The Viking is an eccentric shook, known for experiencing paranormal activity and peculiar instances, incomprehensible to anyone who wasn’t a part of it. On a psychological level, this would impact the regions of the brain that contribute to fear and paranoia. If one of the said officers, likely to investigate, they may be less apt to, die to trauma in response to a similar instance, like that which caused fear in the scientists.”
: : : : :
: : : : : A pause. “However, you are also not wrong. In order to mend a problem, it must first be addressed and understood. That would be the logical course of action, towards this issue. For it is never wise to be down a lab, especially on a ship where the tools to repair the broken systems, are broken to. Anyways, there are two sides to every story. Logically, you are quite correct and make clear sense. Psychologically, that is a different story.” She smiled, minutely.

: : : : OOC: Bump.

: : :
: : : Sanx looked at the Counselor and asked simply “Then why is this environment allowed to persist?”
: : :
: : : Sanx, CSO
: :
: : Tal debated what she should respond with. Should she be blunt, and risk saying something that would be deemed amoral? Or should she carefully choose her phrases, yet perhaps leave out the belief of this reasoning?
: :
: : “That is difficult to explain. The Viking is an old ship, and she is falling apart right in front of our eyes. However, her body and crew must have some type of impact upon the Command. The very reason for the sustenance of a ship, lies upon the availability, the ethic and the discoveries of the said ship. In various instances, it is rare that a ship is looked into for its atmosphere or its.. ‘personality,’ for lack of better term.”
: :
: : “If Command were to base its commissioned ships on the nature of the crew and what goes on during the work hours, there are several ships that would be out of business. However, they cannot risk the possibility that one of those ships, regardless of their natures, could possibly discover an element that could redefine science, or a medicine that could cure a once incurable disease. They simply cannot shake the idea that something would not be found, if they were to decommission a ship. This is, although, only an opinionated observation. Do correct me, if you feel different.”

:
: The Scientist looked at the Counselor with a mixture of shock and confusion. The normally cheerful Denobulan leaned forward and, in a voice tinged with the same confusion and shock, said “Counselor… people have been killed by this ship, from what I have been told. Multiple fatalities, injuries, system failures… I doubt very seriously that Command is overlooking these simply because it feels the Viking has some critical role to play. The very ship we are stationed on is a threat to it’s own crew. That is… incredulous… in and of it’s own. The fact that it is allowed to stay that way flies in the face of responsibility and morality.” and he leaned back and placed his hands in his lap. “This is, although, only an opinionated observation. Do correct me, if you feel different.” he said with a cocked eyebrow.
:
: Sanx, CSO
“I cannot say that you’re correct or wrong, as I doubt either of us are that high up in command to know their actual aspirations surrounding their actions and words.” She responded, deciding that it wasn’t as much correcting him, as offering a different idea regarding this. “It is absurd, completely. I agree with you, entirely. I have watched this ship break brilliant officers into nothing more than children. You wouldn’t believe how many commanding officers and xos were among those, before my assignment here. It has warped the minds of various officers, to the point where they are far too traumatized to work, any longer. Counselors come and go so frequently because of this. Just as much as their patients, their strong mentalities are broken and they leave this ship, just the same.”
A frown creased her lips, “You’re right. This ship is a complete liability to her crew. I have never seen such a horror-filled place. I have no idea what is running through Command’s mind, beyond the possibility that they feel this ship is worth the idiosyncrasies that it portrays. Or perhaps they are too fearful to remove this ship from its position, I simply cannot say.” She sighed, “But I can say this, Sanx, the more broken this ship becomes, the strong it seems to be. I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but that is simply what it seems.”
