OOC: Thought it was about time these two should see each other again
IC: He was trying to forget the computer’s malevolent words, mocking him. Reira had forgotten how evil this damn thing was and he’d shut it up by threatening to assimilate it. Taunting him about his parents and that insufferable brother of his he’d disavowed for joining Section 31, not that he cared what this malignant lump of silicone had to say about him and what happened.

Reira had left the ship for medical leave after suffering multiple component failure. A year later with almost everything replaced by Voyager’s EMH and Seven of Nine, he was back on duty. The Viking was inseparable from him, at least here nobody pulled their children close whenever he walked by or stared at his implants because they feared he might go back to his old ways… A haunted ship seemed like a small price to pay for not being treated like a monstrosity.

He routed his personal replicator commands through the one in the Heorot, inserting his tubules into the control mechanism because if the device messed up his order Reira very much doubted controlling his rage would be possible since he had learned how to feel emotions again after deliberately suppressing them for so long. It had been educational, talking with another ex-Drone since Annika related to what it was like although her father wasn’t a psychopathic murderous maniac. Grabbing the bowl of ramen from the replicator and tasting it, he was surprised. It was nothing like the real stuff from the little back-alleys in Tokyo but instead more like instant ramen with toppings, at least it was recognizable as one of his favourite dishes as he grabbed the pair of silver chopsticks and sat down, looking as the doors opened as he saw a certain half-Klingon he’d missed enter. He stood up straight with his arms behid his back, neat as ever with those piercing dark blue eyes but a smile on his face for once, a rare thing.

“Kara… Can I interest you in some ramen or rokeg blood pie now that I’ve got this petaQ of a replicator working?” He offered, his pronunciation perfect as usual. His lilac hair was shorter and neater, he’d somehow grown an inch or two and he didn’t look so thin that a strong gust of wind could snap him in two anymore.

Ensign Reira Akaba (Science)

OOC: You’re back!!!!! Yay!!! does happy dance

IC: He looked…different. Healthy. Still the noticeable implants and the distinctive lilac hair were the same. But…Kara had believed him to be gone. Was he really standing here, now, infront of her? Or was this merely another cruel and taunting trick of the failing light?

“Reira?” Kara dared to say his name aloud, edging a few steps closer as she spoke. “I…I thought you was…you probably believed the same of me. Or worse.”

Unable to restrain her inward delight for another nanosecond, the half-Klingon leaped forward and pulled the petite scientist into a bearish hug.
“You look well, my friend,” she commented, stepping back to study him more intently. “I…still have some work to do before I am back to full health. But I am alive and I am here. And for now that is more than enough.”

Settling into a seat, her eyes scanned the room around them. “It is beginning to feel as if I had never been gone. Except for…” One hand unconsciously traced the edge of her collar where once a set of Captain’s pips had shone.

“But now I want to hear everything about whete you have been and what you have been doing,” Kara exclaimed with unabashed delight. “Just as soon as you bring me that pie.”

“It’s me, I’m really here.” He reassured his old friend, knowing how this ship played with people’s minds and it attempted to do so with his own. “I thought you had disappeared, I thought I’d never see you again… You don’t know how happy seeing you here makes me.” Reira explained, smiling for once since it was rare for the ex-drone to show much emotion at all.

The small Ensign gasped at the bear hug from the larger half-Klingon but returned it all the same, albeit more gently. “Thank you, I’ve made a lot of progress on that front considering recent events. I left due to medical reasons, my implants were being rejected as they didn’t suppress my immune system anymore and due to a Borg Vinculum that was malfunctioning after a Tactical Cube broke apart in Transwarp, I developed the Borg Equivalent of multiple personality disorder.” He explained, nodding at her statement. “I’m just glad you’re alive.”

“I know how that feels, I keep hoping the others will turn up. Maybe even John will come back to us…” Reira stated, still having feelings for the ex-Medical Officer that never really went away. He nodded at her request and once again interacted with the replicator with his nanotubes, not trusting it to do it’s job without a little Borg persuasion, the blood pie flickering into existence as he brought it over to Kara, hoping it was alright. “Leo’s dead.” He grinned, clearly happy.

Ensign Reira Akaba (Science)

“He is?” Kara replied, reaching for the pie with a nod of thanks. “Well that is the best damn news I’ve heard in a long time.”

So much turmoil, so much suffering had Leo Akaba wreaked on their insignificant little vessel. She would not mourn his passing for a single nanosecond.
“I daresay this world will be a much better place without him in it. I am only sorry I didn’t get to strike the final blow myself.”

She paused then, a measured exhale of breath allowing her time to gather her chaotic thoughts into a semblance of order. It mattered not her own thoughts on the matter. Whatever damage that bastard had done to her, to her ship and her crew, he had still been Reira’s father. His flesh and blood.

No skill for counselling, Kara instead wielded the tool of open and sincere honesty. Placing a hand gently on the scientist’s shoulder, she asked, “How do you feel about him being gone? Are you…okay?”
