USS Sentinel
Main Sim - Bridge - A Comm Call
[snip]
The view screen faded and up came the human figure of a man in his late 50s or so. Slightly balding head and greying hair flecked with just a hint of the once blonde hair of youth. Commodore Finny was a man who had clearly taken eagerly to the desk side of his job as he was showing a sizable plumpness around his midriff. The evident rows of snacking colored cubes were evidence of this even more so. =/\= Ah Captain good you are so responsive in taking a placed comm call. So unlike Captain Register on the USS Fountain next to you, that man puts me on hold for ages! =/\= He said with a chuckle. It was at this point Zarath would recall why so many CO’s dreaded calls from Finny, he was a ‘long winded monotone talker’. In this case he went into a tangent rant about Captain Register and his habits and lack of discipline compared to when he was back in the center chair. In fact it went on for some minutes almost without pause that one might wonder if he was stopping to breathe.
Finally though after five long droning minutes, Finny chuckled and took a breath, =/\= …Ah but I digress. I called you for other matters then a social call! I got your first mission ready to go. A simple cargo run and colony check in on near the Deba sector to the Deba 1 colony. Quite a quaint colony really of about 500 odd folks out on the border region of known space in the Alpha quadrant here..” Getting a wistful look in his eyes Finny sadly went on another monotones dabble about the sweet tasting wines and milk exports Deba colony was known for as well as their efforts to mine the local planet for other sources of export, for another five endless seeming minutes before finally refocusing on the task at hand. =/\= Ah but yet again I get side tracked. =/\= He said chuckling.
As the Commodore kept babbling on, Cerny turned away from the view screen and decided to occupy himself by pulling up all of the information in the Library Computer about Deba Colony, while making as little noise as possible.
Taking a cue from the XO, Myasnikov began plotting a course for the colony, and checking the astrometrics database for any obstacles or anomalies in the path of theior new ship.
No anomalies or problems were in the course path they setup…
Information began whirring and processing which would be forthcoming soon enough....
=/\= The mission is simple, you’ll be taking some basic cargo goods they requested in their last sub space call three weeks ago and deliver it, in exchange you’ll get some export materials from their mines and their wines and milk in cold storage. The necessary cargo containers should be aboard your ship shortly. While there have your medical department do a quick medical survey of the colony ensure there are no nasty little germs or such we need to worry about back here in civilized space. Why I recall back in my day in the center chair in 2232…=/\= He said loosing his train of thought and rambling on YET AGAIN about some past mission of his on the USS Soysoy when he was Captain, another long five minutes passed of monotone dribble.
=/\= Ah those were the days right? =/\= He said chuckling finally coming back to the point at hand. =/\= Oh right your orders! So besides medical engineering should check up on their local power regulators make sure they’re all in order, don’t need the poor colonists getting stuck in the dark!=/\= he said heartily chuckling =/\= I’m sure your science department chief can cook up a local survey for folks back home here to read too once you return if you find the time. All in all it should be an easy start to your career and missions! Questions? =/\= he asked, almost as if hoping their were so he could regale the crew about his lost youth or such again.

Sure, I can ‘cook that up’, Cerny thought derisively. Just like the tranquilizers I’m sure your staff wants to put in your coffee… Ivo was careful to only roll his eyes while he was turned away from the view screen and flipping switches on the computer console, so as not to be obvious.
With a beep the computer indicated it was finished with his request
A second later and the library computer spat out a new memory tape. This one was colored orange.
It was all Amber could do to stifle the giggle that welled up in her throat every time the Commodore went off on a tangent. She was impressed with the stoicism that The’llin showed as he stood before his chair and accepted it as a normal thing. Perhaps as a Captain, it ‘was’ normal to him.
As the Commodore finally finished and was winding down, Amber shunted the notes from the call to the Captain’s console. He wouldn’t see it till he sat down. But she was content to know it was there. Questions and responses would be sent as well.

CommsZarath managed to make it through the droning lecture, making mental notes of the various objectives of the mission. At the mention of a Science Survey, Th’ellin glanced at Cerny and raised an eyebrow. “No questions, I’m afraid, Commodore… This mission seems pretty straight forward. I’ll have my staff begin going over mission parameters immediately, we can be underway directly. Did you have anything else to add, Sir?” Th’allin’s antennae curled forward ever so slightly, as he tried to keep his expression empty.
-Zarath, CO
=/\= Nothing currently Captain safe travels! =/\= He said then ended the call, already signs were in the works of the cargo being beamed up and such readied for their mission ahead.
Cerny glanced back at the Captain and held up the new memory tape that had all useful information about Deba Colony on it, as if to signal that he was already on top of planning whatever this survey was going to be.

Th’ellin gave his First Officer a grin that was almost a smirk. He’d have bet money that Cerny would’ve had the tape ready before Finny had finished speaking, and Ol’ Ivo hadn’t disappointed. He mouthed a silent ‘thanks’ at Cerny. What he hadn’t expected was that Myasnikov, their brand-new-wet-behind-the-ears young Navigator would perform on a similar level. This pleased him, as it meant that he’d been right to trust Admiral Blankenship’s judgment on the young Russian. Hopefully, he could hold up his own end of that bargain as well. The Andorian found himself making a mental note to do his damnedest to keep that promise. He’d watch out for all his young and eager staff members. No matter what. He nodded to the young Russian as soon as Amber let him know the call was cut and gave an official order for the first time on Sentinel’s bridge.
“Mr. Myasnikov, excellent job keeping ahead of our orders. Mr. Blackwolf, please lay in that course, Warp Factor Four.” Th’ellin said confidently.
He flipped two switches on the arm of his chair, then swiveled to face Amber at the Comm station. “Ms. Josen, please give me shipwide.”
-Zarath, CO
Amber tapped the command and was ready as soon as the Captain faced her. A smile and nod accompanied her confirmation. “Shipwide, Sir…”
Amber
CommsTh’ellin nodded and gave her a wink as he began speaking.
=/\=All Hands, this is the Captain. We’ve been dispatched to Deba Colony for a routine supply run, we will be underway directly. Duty Stations, please. Senior Staff Officers, please report to Conference Room A for briefing. Zarath out. =/\=
The Andorian rose to his feet and began to move toward the conference room door. “Mr. Černý, Josen and Myasnikov, please join us. Mr. Blackwolf, you have the Conn.”
-Zarath, CO
Aatami nodded and said “Yes, sir.” and then looked at Black Wolf and nodded, confirming that he’d be stepping away. The excitement on the young man’s face was almost palpable.
Myasnikov, Navigator
With their cargo and course set the Sentinel launched without much fanfare guided out by a wave of a guy in an EVA suit. Once clear of the Sol system the ship went to warp on its way to Deba 1 Colony.
