The familiar hiss of the turbolift doors gave way to the clean, antiseptic atmosphere of Sickbay. Jonathan Pierce stepped inside, the small duffel slung over one shoulder a reminder that he had only been aboard the USS Sentinel for a matter of minutes. The rest of his belongings would find their way to his quarters soon enough. Starfleet regulations, however, dictated that his first official stop was here.

Straightening the hem of his freshly pressed red duty tunic, Lieutenant (junior grade) Pierce took a moment to glance around the compartment. Sickbay was every bit as orderly as he had expected, its biobeds neatly arranged and medical equipment quietly humming in the background.

His grey eyes lingered on the activity around him for only a moment before he shifted his duffel from one shoulder and made his presence known.

“Lieutenant, junior grade Jonathan Pierce,” he announced in a clear but respectful tone. “Reporting aboard and here for my boarding medical.”

With that, Jonathan stepped just inside the entrance, allowing the medical staff to continue their work uninterrupted while making himself available. There was no impatience in his posture, only the quiet confidence of an officer accustomed to procedure.

Like every ship in the fleet, the Sentinel had its own rhythm. Before long, he hoped to become part of it. For now, he simply waited for whoever was available to receive him, content to let the crew carry on with their duties until it was his turn.
