The bosun’s whistle echoed through the ship. [O]Attention all hands to battle stations. Emergency distress call has been received from the USS Declaration. She is under attack by several Klingon Vessels.[C]

[O]Bridge to Medical, prepare for incoming casualties and rescue operations.[C]

Sickbay was finally back under some semblance of control.

The widespread systems failures that swept through the Sentinel had left their mark—not just as damaged equipment, but in the crew as well. Every department was affected, but the science labs down the hall had been among the hardest hit.

Three of the biobeds in the recovery room were filled, two occupied by crewmen recovering from concussions and a third with a young ensign who had their leg reattached. One of the surgical beds held a science officer with extensive burns. Thankfully, they were sedated and stable until the medical staff had the chance to resume working on them.

Sadly, despite the crew’s best efforts, the morgue across the hall held a new occupant who could not be saved.

The examination room had become their triage and primary treatment area. Most of the more seriously injured patients had been treated and returned to their quarters to rest. Now just half a dozen people were waiting to have their lacerations or fractures seen to. The walking wounded.

The medical team finished with a large laceration on a human man’s arm, and the next patient, a Tellarite woman, approached the empty examination bed. She was cradling her elbow as though her shoulder had been dislocated.

Before she could arrive, a voice from the surgical suite called out. “Doctor… the power to the surgical bed is fluctuating again. The patient’s vitals are still stable… for the moment, at least.”

“Get an engineer in here,” Astrel said in response to the voice. “Assign a nurse to constant watch of the patient, make sure it’s someone versed in manual interventions if needed.” If no one else was available, he would qualify for that. But there were other patients needing triage and treatment.
