The bosun’s whistle echoed through the ship. [O]Attention all hands to battle stations. Emergency distress call has been received from the USS Declaration. She is under attack by several Klingon Vessels.[C] Closing the comms, Rende hit another button on her chair that put the ship to red alert.

A moment later, a message came in with orders from the Science station on the bridge. ‘Science is ordered to have sensors checked and refined to attempt to identify areas of cloaked ships and to begin scanning for life signs and casualties as soon as we drop out of warp.’

” On it, Captain!”

The tone was quiet down in the Science laboratories. They were no less busy than the rest of the ship, but many of NEs and scientists were subdued. Shaken even.

One of their own had died.

Ensign Faorr, a young Tellarite woman, had died during the hull breach. She had been thrown off her feet and smashed her head into the bulkhead. The team rushed her to sickbay as quickly as they could, but the doctors were unable to save her.

There was also Ensign Mendez, stuck in the chemical lab as a fire raged in that compartment. He was in Sickbay right now being treated for extensive burns. He was sedated, but still in critical condition.

Due to the quick thinking of the department, the Xenobiology lab and most of the other compartments had been secured and sealed when the ship-wide system failures first started. Since then, the scientists had been diligently working to undo all those safeguards and prepare the labs to resume normal operations.

The damage control teams had just finished up their overhaul of the chemical lab, making sure the area was safe. That opened up the computer lab for assessment as well. The fire hadn’t reached that space, but there were no personnel inside to secure it. Science Department personnel would need to assess the extent of the damage there to see what could be done.
