Red alert klaxons wailed through the corridors of the USS Sentinel. Overhead panels flickered with emergency lighting, casting everything in an unsettling crimson hue. The crew could feel the subtle vibration of the ship’s systems straining under catastrophic load — a deep, rhythmic thrumming that resonated through the deck plating beneath their feet.

The computer’s calm voice cut through the alarm: ‘Warp core instability approaching critical. All hands to emergency stations.’ In engineering, crew members move with controlled urgency — some toward damage control stations, others helping injured colleagues toward the nearest turbolift. The air smells of ozone and burnt circuitry. A younger ensign limps down the corridor, his uniform scorched, his face pale. Behind him, a section of the corridor’s wall panel sparks and dies.

Through the main screen, the bridge crew could see the Sentinel’s starboard nacelle flickering with an unnatural blue corona — beautiful and terrifying. Asam hit the button on her chair for main engineering, [O]Chief Molray. What’s happened?[C] But the temporary Chief Engineer didn’t respond to hails in seventeen minutes. Captain Asam’s voice crackles over the comm: [O]All senior staff to the Bridge. We have a situation.[C] Something about this feels wrong to the captain — too coordinated, too precise. The failures shouldn’t cascade this way. The Sentinel’s redundant systems were designed specifically to prevent this.

This is Ensign Bordeaux Captain I’m en route to the bridge ma’am

Security USS Sentinel

OOC: Please do not assume information that has not been provided. You have not performed any scans and gotten feedback on them. Also, engineering has not yet reported in either and they would be the ones to report on the ship’s physical status after they have run their checks. I am editing to leave space for a GM reply, but will wait for the others to join us before answering.

Lieutenant Kross stepped onto the bridge at a brisk pace, a PADD tucked under one arm as the crimson glow of red alert bathed the command center. His eyes immediately moved to the main viewer, studying the unstable corona dancing around the starboard nacelle.
He crossed to the science station and began pulling telemetry from across the ship’s sensor network. His expression remained composed, though a slight furrow appeared between his brows as the data streamed across the display.

OOC: Understood. I’ll avoid assuming scan results, engineering reports, or any information that has not been explicitly established in the scene. I’ll limit my posts to what my character can directly observe, know, or be told, and will leave room for GM updates and other players’ contributions before advancing the situation further.

As the CSO took her station her comm activated with a call from the labs.

=^= Specialist Stovik to Lieutenant Kross. Science Laboratories remain secure. Laboratory personnel are accounting for hazardous materials and preserving critical research. I am compiling available environmental telemetry and stand ready to provide scientific analysis or additional support as required. =^=

Thraz stepped onto the bridge with a purpose, “Captain?” he said looking at the view screen, he moved toward the engineering console to see what was happening. He leaned in over the officers shoulder. “Report” he said

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

“Warp core is unstable,” Asam said as she waited for the engineering officer to answer Thraz.

The lt at the engineering console didn’t look up as he monitored his station. “The warp core is unstable and failing. All the systems are cascading. It’s precise and orderl. I’m trying to bypass from here, but it’s not working. Chief Molray won’t answer and I can’t get anyone else in engineering to respond.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Bump
“Captain we should drop out of warp, and if we can’t stabalize shutdown the core. ” Ensign Dovek reached out to enginering. [O] “Bridge to engineering, please respond” [C]

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

“Aye, Cmdr,” the helm responded as they hit the control to drop out of warp. There was a static buzz as the officer tapped the console. It came again and again. “Captain, helm is not responding. I can’t drop out of warp.”

[o]Bridge, this is Lt. Jilva in engineering.[c] Sounds of chaos and and explosions and alarms came through the comms as well.

[o]Jilva where is Chief Molay?[c] Asam asked.

[o]I don’t know Captain. We can’t find him.[c]

Cpt. Asam, CO

Dovek pushed calm out more to help everyone focus on the crisis . he reviewed the communication looking for patterns trying to find source, looking for oddly quiet spots as well.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Zaril Dovek
Communication Officer U.S.S Sentinel

His specialty was in starship systems, and environmental controls, but the warp core issues kind of took the focus at the moment. Jova had fire suppression equipment in hand as he attempted to deal with the explosions. In a way, that was controlling the environment, but the klaxons, the explosions and the chaos was continuing.

He was used to working under pressure, he was used to working on engines under pressure, but not like this. But, he wasn’t about to lose his head. His many times great ancestor, Joel Kiwa would have faced similar as a Lighthorseman on the battlefields of WWI and he survived, and Jova was determined to survive this.

Jova opened a panel, ran a scan to see if he could find a source of the systems cascade failure and warp core shut down and kept his eyes on the panel of his diagnostic toolkit. “Come on, Sentinel,” he said softly as he waited for any results, “Don’t let me down, girl. We’ve got a long ride ahead and I need you running true.”

“Mount up and Make it Sing”

The bridge comms cracked to life and despite the dire news reported, the Civilian Vulcan Scientist’s voice remained but clipped.

=^= Specialist Stovik to Bridge. Chemical laboratory fire reported on Deck Nine, Section Two Charlie. Automatic fire suppression systems are non-functional.

Xenobiology has isolated its environmental systems and secured hazardous materials. Recommend immediate dispatch of Damage Control teams equipped with portable suppressant units and emergency force-field generators.

Advise Operations to isolate ventilation servicing Section Two Charlie to prevent smoke and chemical propagation. If suppression proves unsuccessful, controlled evacuation of adjacent compartments followed by atmospheric venting of the affected laboratory should be considered. Awaiting further instructions. =^=

Asam pushed the comm button on her chair. [O] Do it! Bridge Out.[C] She closed the comm. If Stovik need direction and permission to implement emergency safety procedures then they didn’t need to be on the ship. “Kross, get down to deck 9 and make sure your people know what they are doing and secure the labs and chemicals.”

[O]Engineering to bridge. Captain, the Sentinel has been sabotaged. We’re trying to get the core shut down.[C]

“Thraz go.” She didn’t need to say more. She knew Thraz would know what needed to be done.

Then the whole ship shuttered. A concussive blast slammed out of another area and force of it through the corridor blew lights, blew personnel to the floor, and tore the walls apart. =/\=HULL BREACH DECK 9 SECTION 1 HULL BREACH DECK 9 SECTION 1=/\=

“Thraz!” she called out before the lift door shut, “manage the evacuation of deck 9.” Without looking she called out, “Dovik sound the emergency quarters. All non-essential personnel to emergency bunkers or escape pods. They are to hold launching for the time being.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Dovik keyed the sequence [O] Energency Station all Emergency teams and fire teams report to stations, All non essencential hands to nearest shelter or escapepods [C] He repetead twice as he checked forcefields on deck nine had raised.

Thraz noded “Aye” he called out as the lift closed. “Deck 8” he said. Once on 8 he secured a breather and supression unit then proceeded to deck 9.

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

=^= Bridge, this is Specialist Stovik. A secondary explosion has resulted in a hull breach on Deck Nine, Section One. Laboratory environmental isolation has failed due to structural damage. Xenobiology personnel remain accounted for and are initiating casualty response and hazardous material containment. Request immediate structural integrity assessment and Damage Control support. We will maintain containment for as long as conditions permit. =^=
