USS Sentinel

Dinner

The final entries of the day’s laboratory analysis disappeared from the display of Lieutenant Selene Kross’s PADD as she approved the last report for transmission to the ship’s database. Hours spent examining mineral samples and refining sensor data had left her satisfied with the progress her department had made. The science labs were quiet once more, their instruments humming softly as automated systems continued routine analyses.

Gathering her PADD, Selene rose from her workstation and made her way out into the corridor.

“Computer, locate the nearest available turbolift.”

“Turbolift located twenty meters ahead.”

A short ride later, the doors opened onto the bustling mess hall. The scent of freshly prepared meals drifted through the room as off-duty crew members relaxed between shifts, sharing stories of the day’s assignments.

Approaching the replicator, Selene considered the menu before making her selection.

“Grilled Atlantic salmon, roasted vegetables, wild rice, and a cup of black coffee.”

The meal shimmered into existence. Carrying her tray, she found a quiet table near one of the large observation windows, where the stars streamed silently past as the USS Sentinel continued its patrol.

Setting her PADD beside her plate, she allowed herself a rare opportunity to disconnect from work. Although several unread notifications waited for her attention, they could remain unanswered until after dinner.

For now, she simply enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the good meal, and the spectacular view beyond the viewport—a reminder of why she had devoted her life to science and exploration.

Tomorrow would undoubtedly bring new discoveries. Tonight, however, was for a well-earned meal aboard her ship.
