Red alert klaxons wailed through the corridors of the USS Sentinel. Overhead panels flickered with emergency lighting, casting everything in an unsettling crimson hue. The crew could feel the subtle vibration of the ship’s systems straining under catastrophic load — a deep, rhythmic thrumming that resonated through the deck plating beneath their feet.

The computer’s calm voice cut through the alarm: ‘Warp core instability approaching critical. All hands to emergency stations.’ In engineering, crew members move with controlled urgency — some toward damage control stations, others helping injured colleagues toward the nearest turbolift. The air smells of ozone and burnt circuitry. A younger ensign limps down the corridor, his uniform scorched, his face pale. Behind him, a section of the corridor’s wall panel sparks and dies.

Through the main screen, the bridge crew could see the Sentinel’s starboard nacelle flickering with an unnatural blue corona — beautiful and terrifying. Asam hit the button on her chair for main engineering, [O]Chief Molray. What’s happened?[C] But the temporary Chief Engineer didn’t respond to hails in seventeen minutes. Captain Asam’s voice crackles over the comm: [O]All senior staff to the Bridge. We have a situation.[C] Something about this feels wrong to the captain — too coordinated, too precise. The failures shouldn’t cascade this way. The Sentinel’s redundant systems were designed specifically to prevent this.

Also, engineering has not yet reported in either and they would be the ones to report on the ship’s physical status after they have run their checks. Lieutenant Kross stepped onto the bridge at a brisk pace, a PADD tucked under one arm as the crimson glow of red alert bathed the command center. His eyes immediately moved to the main viewer, studying the unstable corona dancing around the starboard nacelle.
He crossed to the science station and began pulling telemetry from across the ship’s sensor network. His expression remained composed, though a slight furrow appeared between his brows as the data streamed across the display.

Thraz stepped onto the bridge with a purpose, “Captain?” he said looking at the view screen, he moved toward the engineering console to see what was happening. He leaned in over the officers shoulder. “Report” he said

“Warp core is unstable,” Asam said as she waited for the engineering officer to answer Thraz.

The lt at the engineering console didn’t look up as he monitored his station. “The warp core is unstable and failing. All the systems are cascading. It’s precise and orderl. I’m trying to bypass from here, but it’s not working. Chief Molray won’t answer and I can’t get anyone else in engineering to respond.”

“Captain we should drop out of warp, and if we can’t stabalize shutdown the core. ” Ensign Dovek reached out to enginering. [O] “Bridge to engineering, please respond” [C]

“Aye, Cmdr,” the helm responded as they hit the control to drop out of warp. There was a static buzz as the officer tapped the console. It came again and again. “Captain, helm is not responding. I can’t drop out of warp.”

[o]Bridge, this is Lt. Jilva in engineering.[c] Sounds of chaos and and explosions and alarms came through the comms as well.

[o]Jilva where is Chief Molay?[c] Asam asked.

[o]I don’t know Captain. We can’t find him.[c]
