Ensign Lacy Bordeaux stepped out of the turbolift onto Deck Seven and began her first security patrol aboard the USS Sentinel. A padd rested in one hand while the other remained free at her side, close to the utility belt secured around her waist.
The corridor was busy with the steady flow of Starfleet personnel moving between duty stations. Engineers hurried toward maintenance assignments while science officers reviewed data on padds as they walked. Lacy kept a measured pace, her eyes constantly moving as she observed faces, access points, and environmental conditions.
She paused briefly beside a junction panel and reviewed the patrol route assigned to her shift. Everything appeared normal.
Continuing onward, she stopped at a cargo access hatch and verified the security seal was intact. The indicator remained green. Satisfied, she noted the inspection on her padd before moving on.
As she reached the crew quarters section, Lacy exchanged polite nods with passing officers but remained focused on her duties. Security patrols were not glamorous work, but she understood their importance. Most shifts would pass without incident, and that was exactly how Starfleet preferred it.
She rounded another corner and stepped into one of the larger common areas serving Deck Seven. Several crew members sat talking over meals while others relaxed between shifts. Lacy conducted a slow visual sweep of the room, checking emergency exits, environmental controls, and overall activity.
Nothing unusual.
Good.
Leaving the commons behind, she continued deeper into the deck. The steady hum of the warp core echoed faintly through the ship’s structure, a constant reminder that the Sentinel was alive and moving through the stars.
For the first time since coming aboard, Lacy allowed herself a small smile.
She was no longer a cadet.
She was a Starfleet Security Officer serving aboard a starship.
Straightening her shoulders, Ensign Bordeaux continued her patrol, determined to prove she belonged among the crew of the USS Sentinel.
