“Fair,” he said with a nod and then began to run the footage. Leah went into her suite not long after checking in and then she emerged just before 1900 hours. She goes down the lift. No one other than people going into their own rooms nearby or the occasional porter appears.
Leah came back up into her suite around 2030 hours and Nurse Montri and Dr. Hunter appear about an hour later all dressed up. They knock on Hart’s door and Leah appears, also ready for their night out. They leave together a few minutes later.
While they were watching the footage with an accelerated speed, it was clear that Leah didn’t return to her room that night, nor did anyone else show up on the floor that seemed out of the ordinary.
~Leah Hart, NP
Nothing out of the ordinary there. “Thank you, Okar. I appreciate your help.” She paused, “Do you have cameras outside? I would like to see if anyone followed them as they left last evening.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
“One at the entrance and some around the building and perimeter of the property. But let’s start with entrance, since they would have gone out the front if they were going to go to the clubs down the road.”
Switching views, they saw the quartet leave and walk down the main walkway to the front of the resort property. There were people passing and at one point a young woman was behind them, but she split off in a different direction once they all reached the main road and embraced another woman there before they went off together. Renu blew out a breath. “Well, I’ve seen a lot of different scenarios over the years, but this all seems normal. We can fast forward to when they returned, which I understand was only three of them? Unless you want to see something else?”
~Leah Hart, NP
Morgan nodded, “Just to be thorough let’s look at when they arrived back.” A thought occurred to her, “Does your system keep track of when the doors to the rooms are opened?”
Morgan, sec
“Yes and no. We know when the key cards are used. Those records are archived a week after a guest checks out,” Renu said. He skipped ahead to the time noted when Hart’ friends returned. It was at 0037 hours. They entered through the lobby in good spirits, but it was just the three of them. Leah hadn’t come back with them as they all originally explained. There were no people hanging around or watching them and the lobby was quiet.
“I’ll pull Hart’s key card records,” he said. A few moments later he shrugged. “Hmmm. Well, It all looks as expected. She checked in, came back after their dinner, the key card hasn’t been used since. A security master keycard was used when they went to do a wellness check. That’s it.”
~Renu, Hotel Security
“Alright. Thank you for your help, Renu. I really appreciate it.” Morgan shook his hand. “If you hear anything please contact the Sentinel.” She left and made her way to the resort where Leah had been found. She entered the lobby and made her way to the desk. She introduced herself and explained why she was there.
Morgan, sec
The young man at the desk hadn’t been working last night and had come onto his shift hearing about all the excitement last night. “I wasn’t working, but my colleague, Tamu was, and she told me the woman was taken to hospital. We’ll help however we can and I hope she’s doing okay. What do you need?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“She’s finally awake, but she doesn’t remember anything. I was hoping that you might have security cameras I could look at?” Morgan asked.
Morgan, sec
Tamu nodded. “I’ll get someone from security to come meet you.”
Much like at the other resort, the head of security came out and she introduced herself as Quielle. The tall blond-haired Risian lead Morgan to the security admin area. “Do you have a time you’d like to start looking at and an area?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“I need to see footage of the exits and access points from the time one Daro Kelreden checked in until about an hour ago.” She also showed Quielle a picture of Hart. “Can you run facial recognition and track her movements?”
Morgan, Sec
Using the image, Quielle ran it through the system at the same time as she queried Daro’s room access. “Okay, Kelreden checked in to Room 118 two days ago at 1630 hours. He come and went throughout the next two days and last night he left at 2000 hours. And…” She pointed to the time and the image of Leah with her arm in Daro’s It also looked like he was supporting her as she seemed to be a bit tipsy. “They returned at 0130. We see her next on a camera near the exit at the pool deck at 0326. It’s down the far end of his floor. We can’t see the incident from here, but, look…” Leah was wide-eyed and stumbling far worse than earlier. She turned and headed toward the pool deck.
“After that she doesn’t show up, because of course EMS took her to the hospital. But Kelreden left his room at 0340, which was a few minutes after EMA left with her.” They could see a list of cameras picking up his presence around the property. “He returned to his room at 0415 and left again fifteen minutes later. He hasn’t returned.”
~Leah Hart, NP
“Would it be possible to speak to the staff and guests that they passed coming in and when he left?” Morgan asked.
Morgan, security
Quielle bobbed her head. “Staff, probably. Guests are a maybe. We can see if anyone is still around, but it’s a wide window of time and that will be a lot of records to cross-reference. Is there a specific question you’re hoping to get an answer to? Maybe we can find the answer a simpler way?” She wanted to be helpful but she was mindful of resources and the time in involved needed to be worth the outcome.
~Quielle, Head of Security
“Just basic questions really. Did anyone see her, over hear anything, observe anything out of the ordinary. That sort of thing,” Morgan said.
Morgan, sec
Quielle pondered this and slowly nodded. “I’ll have to check with concierge and see who is still around and Housekeeping can confirm who might have been on, but there wouldn’t have been any cleaning at those hours. “But one person we might be able to track down is the bystander who jumped into the pool to help her. He gave the paramedics a basic statement, but since it wasn’t a law enforcement case yet, he wasn’t questioned further. I’m not sure if that would help your investigation or not.”
~Leah Hart, NP
Morgan nodded, “That would be very helpful if I could speak with them.”
Morgan, sec
The Head of Security nodded and was about to respond when she got a message. Checking it briefly, she hummed. “We’ll get Concierge to identify his room and if he’s still checked -in. Meanwhile, it seems we have another avenue for you to investigate,” Quielle said, rising to her feet. “The constable in charge of the case is here. Apparently, she has a lead and a warrant to search the room your officer was apparently in. I’m guessing you want to be there, yes?”
~Quielle, Head of Security
Bump
“Yes, if you could show me the way. I don’t want to get in her way, but if she would allow me to observe, I would be grateful.” Tracy stood and followed Quielle through the hotel.
Morgan, Sec
Back at Reception, Constable Tai Maliia was waiting for the pair. “Quielle, Lieutenant Morgan.” She gave them both a respectful nod of her head. She handed Quielle a PADD. “That’s the warrant to search the room and any place on the property that either Lieutenant Hart or Mr. Kelreden have been.”
“Constable Maliia,” Morgan said with a respectful nod. “Would you mind if I tagged along. I promise to stay out of your way and observe unless you ask me otherwise.” This was her investigation after all. Tracy just wanted to get to the bottom of things.
Quielle skimmed the document, nodded, and handed it back. “Everything looks in order. We were just reviewing the footage from last night and we can track their movements. They arrived at approximately 0130 and she had the accident on the pool deck a couple hours later,” she said. Quielle leaned in to the concierge and made the request for the room number and status as hotel guest for the man who had helped Leah on the pool deck. They would look into it.
Quielle led them up to Daro’s room. She used her security access to open Room 118 and they stepped in.
It was a fairly spacious but basic room, with one large bed and a view with a balcony overlooking the back of the property. There was a washroom with a large shower to the left. The space definitely looked like someone had been there and Daro’s suitcase was resting on a credenza, plus he had clothes here and there.
Maliia stood and took in everything with a keen eye as she donned gloves. “No one touches anything. If you see something, I’ll document it before we examine it closer.” She drew in a breath and blew it out. “Mr. Kelreden told Dr. Kreed that there was a small amount left of the psilocybin they took and it’s somewhere here. We need it to test for purity and strength for Lt. Hart’s treatment. Have you found out anything in your investigation?” she asked Morgan.
~Leah Hart, NP
Morgan shook her head, “No. Just confirmation of what we know so far. After I was done here, I was going to go to the club and try and find witnesses.”
Morgan, Sec
Tai nodded and set down her evidence kit on a small table. “That was one of my next stops as well. We should go together. I have my detachment reaching out to the owner to find ut who was working last night and to secure access to any security footage. We’re also looking for the woman Lt. Hart was dancing with to see if what she has to say about it all.”
The constable began taking images of the room before they touched anything. Once she was done, she began to poke about.
Morgan would find a pair of strappy heeled sandals on the floor, each shoe about a metre apart. Almost in a zig zag line towards the bed there were undergarments.
Maliia imaged the credenza and Daro’s bag and other belongings. She began to search the bag. “If anyone needs gloves or evidence bags, I have them in my kit,” she said, pointing to the little table.
Meanwhile, Quielle looked out the window and studied the view. “Hard to see much out here. He wouldn’t have been able to see she was outside at the pool.”
~Leah Hart, NP
Morgan grabbed a pair of gloves, but let Maliia collect the evidence. She squatted down and looked at the shoes and then the clothes looking for signs of force. She paused and looked around. She didn’t see her outer clothing. It was possible in her haste to run she only put on her outer clothes, or they had never come off, or Daro was keeping them as a souvenir. “Does anyone know what Lt. Hart was found in?”
Morgan moved over to the furniture and started looking through drawers and cabinets looking for the vile.
Morgan, sec
“The hospital said she only had a dress on. Nothing else,” Tai said.
Quielle just watched quietly and let them work.
Maliia finished the main compartment of the suitcase with no luck and started checking the pockets.
As Tracy searched the drawers, there was a soft flattish case. Inside was a PADD and a small resealable bag with a small amount of powder inside.
~Leah Hart, NP
“Constable,” Tracy said. “I think I found it.”
Morgan, sec
Tai moved over and carefully took the bag from Morgan. She held it up and nodded. “Yes, I think you’re right.” She put the item in an evidence bag. But she came back over and peered at the PADD. “The warrant covers any item that might be involved in the case, and Dr. Kreed specifically asked us to look into Mr. Kelreden’s search history to see if he was tracking the Sentinel’s movement. We’ll collect the device as evidence as well.”
Once that was done, she bagged the shoes and undergarments. They continued to scour the place for other evidence, and Maliia collect hair samples and took scans of the room. After a while longer, they were done.
The constable turned to Quielle. “Block off this room. It’s an active crime scene. No one comes in without my authorization or a detective working the case. That includes housekeeping. We might need to search again, so everything has to remain as is.”
Tai drew in a deep breath and gathered all the items, placing theme in a secure case before turning to Mogan. “I need to take this all back to the station for logging and testing. I’ll meet you at the club? It’s called Club Koha, down on Riall Street. If you need to go back to your ship, we can set a time, just let me know.”
~Constable Maliia & Quielle, Head of Security
Morgan shook her head, “No I’ll meet you there. Could I also request of your labs test results when they are finished?”
Maliia nodded. “Of course. I’ll have them sent to your ship as soon as we get them.”
Tracy left after thanking Quielle for the assistance. She made her way to Club Koha.
Cpt. Asam, CO
Club Koha was a bit different from other night clubs, as it had more of a noticeable entrance. It was unabashedly present with its bright blue door and multicolour trim in various intersecting geometrical shapes. The door was partly propped open with a wedge.
Inside, the space was large with a main level and an upper area visible behind a clear half wall- the latter which was just tables and chairs and couches for a more lounge feel. The main floor was a large dance floor in front of a small stage. Opposite and running the entire length of the back was an elegant bar with barstool seating towards the sides leaving the middle open for patrons ordering drinks. There were small tables with chairs scattered around the perimeter and tall tables meant for standing at with drinks closer towards the dance floor.
The place was very clean, the custodial staff clearly having gotten the place well in order after last night. There was a man behind the bar stocking bottles, and another man visible up top sitting at a table.
~Leah Hart, NP
Tracy peeked in but didn’t enter. She would wait for the constable. She stepped away and flipped open her communicator. [O]Morgan to Cmdr sh’Kellirathras.[c] She quickly gave the commander the rundown of what she knew so far and how the investigation was going.
NL Morgan, security
[O] “Understood Lieutenant, keep me apprised. If you need my, assistance let me know [C] Thraz said with a quick response as he moved to the infirmary to interview the victim, his Antenna twitched slightly as he tried to process the events so far.
Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel
Constable Maliia arrived a few minutes later and gave Morgan a nod. “Okay, so they are running all the evidence and working on getting access to the PADD. It’s locked so one of our tech people is working on it.” Dr. Kreed had noted the possibility that Kelreden had been researching the ship’s movements and might have been searching for any references. That would be hard to follow-up on on Earth, but right now they would start with the few clues they had. “Kelreden is still in holding, but we’ll have to formally charge him soon or let him go for now. Shall we see what we can find?” she said with a gesture of her head to the door.
~Constable Maliia
