He stood like a blade driven into the deck, still, balanced, and utterly certain of his place. Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras did not raise his voice to command attention, it gathered around him naturally, drawn by the weight of his presence. His blue skin was stark under the training deck lights, his white hair cropped short in the Guard tradition. The long antennae atop his head angled forward with deliberate precision, constantly reading tension, fear, hesitation, things no sensor could ever register. He moved among the Sentinel’s security crew with the confidence of a warrior who had stood real watches, fought real enemies, and buried real dead. To these officers, he was not merely an instructor. He was a reminder that security was not just procedure.

It was very clear why her had been sent her to train the pink skins, er, start fleet officers. They were skilled he would grant them that, but their understanding of the finer nuances of security was sub standard by guard standards. He had been nominated to join Starfleet for this very reason, and while he was still technically a member of the guard he would not be with them for some time. “No, no no!” he said rather irritated. “This is not a projectile weapon you are leading your second shot and don’t need too, aim at the target” he said resting the targets. “Again” he ordered the ne

Rende stood just inside the door, arms crossed, feet shoulder width apart, eyes laser focused on the scene before her. This crew was sadly lacking in it’s security protocol. Star Fleet wasn’t the Marines by any means, but it got under her skin. Hence why she’d requested someone to come in and retrain the department. She watched on critically. The Cmdr certainly knew what he was about, the NE not so much. She held in a sigh of exasperation.

One antenna flicked toward the doorway, then both angled back as Thraz registered the presence behind him. The reaction was instinctive, sharp, and unmistakably Andorian emotion. He did not stop the drill at once. The crew finished the movement, tension thick in the air, before his hand came up in a clenched fist. “Hold,” he ordered, voice edged but controlled. He turned then, posture squared, antennae lifting slightly in acknowledgment. “Captain,” he said, with a brief nod that carried respect without ceremony.

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras

“Commander,” Asam replied crisply without moving further into the training room. “Carry on, come see me when you are finished.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Thraz inclined his head once, his antennae dipping in acknowledgment as the captain spoke. “Aye, Captain,” he replied, voice firm. He turned back to the deck without waiting for dismissal. The next thirty minutes were relentless stance corrections, timing drills until the hesitation vanished. He did not raise his voice again, he did not need to. By the end, the crew moved cleaner, sweat cooling on their skin as he dismissed them.

He changed quickly and made his way to the ready room. The edge of irritation had burned down to a steady cold focus, controlled. Antennae settled into a neutral forward angle as he paused at the door, squared his shoulders, and waited the brief beat honor required. Then he chimed in, ready to account for his time and receive whatever came next.

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras

“Enter!” the call came from through the sliding bulkheads as the door opened. Asam looked up from her desk and stood. “Commander sh’Kellirathras. Please come in and have a seat. How are the training sessions going?”

Thraz leaned forward slightly as he sat, antennae alive with motion, the tips lifting and angling as he spoke. “They are learning,” he said, voice carrying heat beneath the control, not loud but charged. “Not fast enough for my liking, but they are.” One antenna snapped once. “They fight the instinct and wait. They have too much paicense and not enough action.”

He held her gaze, jaw set, words coming with conviction rather than polish. “Give me time and repetition and they will stop thinking like cadets and start thinking like officers . they need to feel the room instead of watching it.”

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras

Asam nodded, “Yes.” It was quick and decisive. “There is a time for patience and observation, but when it is time to act, they must act. They are too slow, too hesitant. Space is exciting but it is dangerous. They will get themselves killed. How much time?”

Thraz thought deep, around her ask, his antenna turning and testing the air. “They are green Captain, only a few have any real combat experience to speak of.” he said, It was true a large portion of the ships veterans were scooped up by fleet for senior positions elsewhere. “I would say competent in a few more weeks, and skilled in six months” he finished looking rather sharp. “They are progressing better than I expected captain, they will get it” he praised, “Eventually”

Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

“You’re record certainly indicates you’ll get it done.” It wasn’t praise or flatery, just fact. “What do you need from me to make that happen?”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“Nothing captain at the moment, ” his antenna twitched. “Is that all you needed Captain, you could have asked me that in the training bay.” he stated, looking around the office, trying to determine who the woman was from what she kept close to her.

There wasn’t much. A few books on famous military leaders and ancient civilizations, and one a collection of Irish Mythology. There were two real paintings hanging on the walls. Both landscapes. Sitting on a table behind her, but flat so it was hard to see, was a box that looked like it probably held her medals. Various PaDDs laid about. There was so much history of herself she could display, but that would give away her age, and she couldn’t do that. So her office was stark. At work, she worked. Her quarters were more personal.

“Originally you were on loan to the Sentinel to help get our security department into shape. What were your plans after that?”

Cpt. Asam, CO
raz’s antennae eased back, no longer flared, but far from relaxed. He took in the room the way a warrior read a battlefield, what was present mattered less than what was withheld. It looks stage somehow or like things were missing maybe, he could not put his antenna to it.

“I had no plans beyond the task,” he said plainly. “I was assigned to correct a weakness. When that was done, I would return to the Guard, or be reassigned as Command saw fit.” One antenna twitched, a flicker of something sharper beneath the discipline. “Andorian service is not about where one goes next. It is about finishing what is in front of you” He held her gaze, passion banked but unmistakable. “If circumstances change, I adapt. ”

Commander Thraz sh’Kellirathras,
Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

Rende could respect that. It was about the service and not the destination. She never intended to captain, any of the times she had, but when the responsibility came to her, she took it seriously. “I’ll get straight to the point, Cmdr. I’m in need of a new XO and I’ve been reading your file and watching your progress with the crew. I’m offering you the position if you want to take it.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Thraz rose at once, antennae flaring before settling as the offer struck home. “I did not come here seeking command,” he said, voice firm and alive. “But I do not refuse responsibility when it is placed before me. That would be dishonor.” He inclined his head.. “If you place this crew in my keeping as your XO, I will guard them as my own keth.” A brief pause, then, with certainty: “I accept.”

Executive Officer, USS Sentinel

Rende stood, “I’m glad to hear it. The current XO will be gone within the week. You’ll be able to move to your new quarters then. Deck 3. My door is open if you need or want to discuss anything. I won’t keep you further, Cmdr.”
