She nodded again. “It’s understandable to have feelings about that. It may seem like such a small detail to others, but it can drastically change the way we view a situation.” Leah paused and took a breath. “Does knowing that change how you view the people involved and the situation itself?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“Not in any way that matters. Making terrible people look worse and good people look better changes nothing.” Roman replied, shrugging. “Things are the same. Just with another tidbit of information.”

She was quiet for a few moments before she spoke again. “Knowledge after the fact won’t change the outcomes, but it can sometimes help us reframe the way we think about it. You know, that’s the first time I think I’ve heard you actually say something negative about your birth parents. You might say something about their actions but always form a detached place. Do you think the Aldens are terrible people?”
~Leah Hart, NP
Roman’s look changed - defensive, sort of dark. “I shouldn’t comment.” He said. It was improper. What happened in private was to stay there. “There are reasons one might form that opinion.”
~ Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO
This wasn’t about condemning other people, but she was curious what conclusions he might have come to. She nodded. “We can analyze people’s behaviour and use that help remind us that we don’t need that in our life.”
“I am curious whether you will be inclined to call Henry and Maryanne again soon.”
~Leah Hart, NP
“I don’t need to be reminded I don’t want them in my life.” Roman stated firmly. To her second question, he seemed uncomfortable and shrugged. “I’m not sure. Maybe.”
~ Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO
She tilted her head slightly. “What makes you uncertain?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“I don’t know,” Roman replied. “We’ll see, alright?”
~ Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO
Leah nodded. There was only so much pushing she could do and that would be useful. Right now he needed time to process everything.
“It’s been a very full day. I need to go and finish my notes for the evaluation and process things myself. I’ll come back after dinner and we’ll talk what’s next. Fair?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“Alright.” He looked at her, “Can Rand spend dinner here?” He didn’t want to be alone, but he had to let the poor woman go away and decompress. And no, his babysitters didn’t count as not being alone.

Leah nodded. “Sure. I don’t see why not.”
She got up from the bed and gazed at him. There was still a lot she had to figure out here and while there had been progress, was she convinced enough at his stability to let him return to duty in some capacity? She wasn’t entirely sure yet and she needed to sit and write her patient notes in order to help her decipher everything.
“I’ll see you in a couple hours. Get some rest if you can.”
With a final nod, Hart stepped out of the quarters.

Roman played his violin while he waited. Eventually, Rand was brought in for dinner. Then she left, and until Leah returned, Roman continued to play his violin.

When Leah rang the chime (out of courtesy) and stepped in, she gave Roman a small smile at the sight of the violin. “How are we doing?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“I’m fine,” Roman said, though the tune of his music told a different story. It was somber and sad, but there was just the slightest touch of hope in it. A little trill throughout the somber notes. “How was your… decompression time, Lieutenant?”
~ Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO
“Good,” she said honestly. “It’s unusual for someone in my position to do intense sessions like this for such a duration. It’s good for both practitioner and patient to have a break and breath.”
“Sorry.” He wasn’t sure what for, but he felt the need to apologize, which was unusual for him.
“The music is beautiful. It sounds different than the piece you played for me over subspace. What do you think the difference is?”
~Leah Hart, NP
“Time. I rarely write down my music.” He shrugged. “I simply play what I like.”
