Leah got off shift a touch later than she expected and stepped into her quarters with a sigh. There wasn’t time to shower, but she would at least freshen up. Se changed into a salmon-toned satin top with cap sleeves and an open back, secured at the back of the next with a button. The hem had ties that she tied into a bow at the small of her back, leaving a triangle of bare skin exposed.

With this plain coloured top, she wore a pair of loose black trousers with wide legs and a colourful parrot and tropical leaf print in vivid pinks, purples and blues, softened by some paler oranges, greens and some white. They were loud… a lot like Leah could be.

She brushed out her thick wavy hair and pulled the top of her head into a braid and left the rest loose. She didn’t bother with makeup other than some coral pink lipstick and slipped on some gold ballet flats.

Slipping out of her quarters in twenty minutes flat, she arrived in the ship’s social space only five minutes late and looked around. She spied Marcus and smiled, moving over. “So sorry I’m late. Too longer to wrap up my files for the day than I expected. We were unexpectedly busy this afternoon given the ship isn’t doing anything all the exciting just now.”

Bump

Marcus rose, his dark blue gym jumpsuit pressed as though he were wearing his first suit to prom, his hair slicked back into a quiff that almost made him look even younger than he actually was. “I hope it wasn’t too arduous?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

She shook her head. “Nah, just a lot of drop-ins mixed in with appointments. Only about a couple were actually people booked to see me, so I spent the rest of the time in Sickbay helping where I could.” Leah slipped into a chair at the table and folded her arms across it. “How was your day?”

~Leah Hart, NP

“Same old same old,” Anders chuckled, “Wander round the ship, checking for any unwanted guests on route, break up the odd fist fight between disagreeing members of the crew,” he paused for a second, “That one was… interesting.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

“Really? How is that the same old?” she asked as an amused smile traipsed across her face. Starfleet crew were usually the epitome of decorum, and she hadn’t seen any disagreements so far around the Sentinel that would result in a physical fight.

~Leah Hart, NP

‘Exactly,’ Marcus said thoughtfully, ‘You don’t know anything I should about some sort of psychological issue do you?’

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Leah shook her head. “I mean, I can’t discount something, but without a whole lot more details and actually assessing a person, I can’t make a diagnosis of anything.” If there had been signs of mental distress, she would have bene called for an assessment. “So, have you eaten yet?” They were just grabbing drinks and she had eaten a late lunch so was fine for now, but she could also do with a snack too.

~Leah Hart, NP

‘I could go for a light bite,’ Marcus replied, pulling a menu from one of the slats in the dining table, ‘Not starving are you?’

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Leah shook her head. “Nah, had a late lunch, so was going to just grab something from the stasis cupboard. What are you thinking? I was going to go for a sandwich or something. And I heard Haddon back there, who works for Chef Gorshon, makes a mean cocktail and I could definitely go for a drink right now. You?”

~Leah Hart, NP

“An Old Fashioned and a slice would be magical right about now, if that’s something you think he can do?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Leah gave a half shrug. “I don’t know, but I can ask. Hold on,” she said, rising from the table. She wandered over to the galley area and poked her head in. Once bidden to enter, she disappeared for a moment.

She reappeared and eyed him. “What’s a slice? I should have asked a ‘slice of what’ before I went over,” Leah said with a laugh.

Marcus chuckled, ‘Sorry lass, an Americanism I learned from an old roommate at the Academy, it’s shorthand for pizza, get one for yourself if you fancy?’

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

She smiled. “Sure! I’ll get the drinks.” Leah disappeared back into the kitchen where Chef and the assistant cook were.

Marcus couldn’t help but to check his hair in the reflection of the empty cup as he waited for Hart’s return.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

She returned a few minutes later with two rather large slices of pizza, the old fashioned for him, and a mojito for her. She set them down and swivelled into her seat. She pushed his drink towards him and lifted her own. “Salud!” she said with a grin. “To getting to know people better.”

“And to many evenings where we can have company like this,” Marcus clinked his glass and took a swig of the Old Fashioned, shocked at how close the taste really was, “Wow, this synthehol stuff really is something isn’t it?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

She drank from her mojito and savoured the sharp and sweet contrast. It was always so refreshing. “Yeah, it’s pretty good, all told. All the buzz with none of the bad side effects, and you can shake it off.”

“So… have you been on the ship very long?” Leah asked.

~Leah Hart, NP

“Coming up to a year, though it feels like I’m part of the bulkheads now!” Marcus replied, “How have you found your time on the Sentinel thus far?”
