After returning from speaking with the Admiral and updating Alden, Rende made her way to the bridge. She stepped in as the lift opened and looked around. Her eyes fell on her Andorian comms officer. She walked past him and said quietly, “En ch’Sirhc I’d like to speak to you about a personal comm I need to put through, please.” Then she walked toward the small ready room just off the back of the bridge.Cpt. Asam, CO
Kovan perked up at his station as the captain passed by, his keen antennae catching the quiet words. Well, this was interesting. To immediately request his assistance after talking with the top brass? Kovan pressed a few switches on his station before standing up and following after the captain into the ready room. Kovan stepped into the room and stood at parade rest, “Ma’am,” He said in acknowledgement and waited for her to reveal the details of this mysterious personal comm.

“Have a seat, Ensign,” Asam waved toward a chair opposite her.
Once he was seated she pressed a button on her desk and there was a noticeable lack of humming machinery. “Privacy is such a precious commodity on a starship. Now, I have it on excellent authority that you are the most skilled comms officer in the sector, and that not even the most notorious Orion interrogators could pry a secret from your lips.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Kovan tilted his head, registering the lack of sound and recognizing that this was to be a very, very private conversation. He seemed to tense at the mention of Orion interrogators but otherwise kept up a cool and impassive aura. “Aye,” Kovan said. He was second to none as a comms officer. In both sheer number of languages known but also in his ability to decode, encrypt and utilize a vast array of communications styles and techniques.”How may my skills be of use to you, captain?”
Ens. ch’Sirhc Engineering & Communications Officer
“We have a spy on board. Supposedly a Romulan posing as a Vulcan. The likelihood that they will attempt to use ship’s systems to communicate is about 50/50. So I want you to monitor everything that comes in and out, but also look for other signals not connected to the ship. I am restricting access to auxiliary control on Deck 7 to command staff and yourself. It goes without saying this needs to be kept quiet.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Kovan blinked, the only outward sign of shock that particular bit of news gave him. Of all the ships to be targeted by a spy he’d never have put money on the Sentinel. She was a fine ship but hardly the most important. Maybe geography was the larger point than access to Federation secrets. “We can say that all communications systems are down for in-depth diagnostics unless you want our spy to attempt to access the comms systems?” Like a spider waiting on it’s web for prey to trip the trigger.

“I am not sure what Sentinel has they would want. We aren’t exactly in the thick of things. Simply make it look like it goes through. Others are working on this as well, from different angles.”
Rende handed him a data disk, “If anyone asks, the admiralty told me my husband’s ship is missing, and I’ve tasked you with trying to get a message through. The disk actually contains a message to him, just in case.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Kovan grimly accepted the data disk. He understood that the task ahead would be no simple matter and would take all his tricks an knowledge to make happen. Should he fail then the whole mission could fold like a stack of cards.
As they talked an official transmission came through from Admiral Brayden. Asam put in her clearance code and read it. “You don’t have authorization to read this, but the comm line is open. Watch and see who else is reading this and anyone who tries to get in that shouldn’t,” she said to Kovan.
Cpt. Asam, CO
“Aye, Captain,” Kovan entered his log-in to the nearest console and got to work. A superficial scan and observation would be caught easily. He needed to go deeper, all the way down to the atoms of the code that all else was built upon. Doing so would take exceptional technical knowledge. He discreetly made a request to Rand to send him every technical manual for the Sentinel’s comms systems.

Several minutes later a discrete response was returned with the requested files.

OOC: Cross posting
Lt. Kreed’s voice came over the ship’s comms. [O] Attention all hands, this is the Chief Medical Officer. At the order of Star Fleet Medical, we are now under a medical quarantine. All personnel are to report to their quarters and remain inside until seen and examined by medical staff. All Department Heads are hereby instructed to keep only essential personnel in their departments and to close access to all non-department personnel until cleared by Medical. All departments acknowledge, please. [C]
Kreed, CMO
Cpt. Asam, CO
Kovan downloaded the tech manuals to a PaDD and continued his work. Monitoring for attempts to access the Captain’s private comms. His plan was slow going, slow enough to make him scrap going as deep as intended. His code would lurk beneath the surface of the Sentinel’s like an ambush predator. Camouflage along the slew of data gathered every millisecond by the computer. Gradually expanding its territory beyond the captain’s room. When the CMO came over the ship comms he turn to the Captain. He said nothing but his expression conveyed more than words. Do I have to comply with this?
Ens. ch’Sirhc Engineering & Communications Officer
Asam looked at Kovan. “You report to auxiliary control and work from there. Medical will know where to find you, and you will be sufficiently quarantined. You will also have full access to the ship’s systems from there. Confirm the room secured when you arrive.”
Cpt. Asam, CO
Kovan paused his work, saving his place with a bookmarker. He gave the Captain a crisp salute and headed for auxiliary control.

OOC: Sorry it’s taken me this long to get to this. Time to get back into the swing of things.
IC:
The ensign would find auxiliary control to be a suitable work station - but would also find an alert waiting. Someone had checked on the same systems locations as the Ensign - but had somehow managed to delay the alert long enough to not give away who he or she was. Whoever it was knew that someone was digging into the computer systems, and was monitoring specific types of systems access.Pelican, GM
USS SentinelKovan swore under his breath. Their spy was clever he’ll give them that but not smart enough to completely avoid detection. Far too impaitent for the game of ‘I know that they know that I know that they know’ he needed another option. What would he do in the Spy’s shoes? Hacking into the system or otherwise trying to access it would be stupid at this point. Kovan’s trap code was still in place. A few checks confirmed as much. Since subtly was out he made the code blatant and stronger.
Now what would I do? When the autopilot stops working you go to manual. The communications systems itself. That was the one place on the ship where the comms controls were designed to always work. “Captain, requesting permission to leave for the communications systems. Our spy tried to access the comms systems and failed. He won’t try remote access again.”
Ens. ch’Sirhc, Engineering & Communications Officer
Rende nodded. “Take someone from security with you.” Rende tapped her comms and sent a message to Lt. Anders to have someone meet ch’Sirhc at comm control.
Cpt. Asam, CO
Anders recieved after a few seconds and with the CO’s permision, started to plan to make own way to meet with ch’Sirhc at comm control.
-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-
Kovan logged out of his console and made for the comm control. He stopped to slip into the biohazard gear, doing a rush job because of impatience. That spy could already be at the location and doing who knows what to the system. He moved quickly. Time was of the essence.

Bump for GM
The corridors were eerily empty except for the echo of the security patrols on each deck. They stopped ch’Sirhc when they saw him. “Ensign, we’re under quarantine. Where are headed and why?”
EvilJen, DDoSFEO
Kovan scowled but kept his tone cool in his reply, “I’ve got permission from the captain to head to the communication’s system. I’m supposed to meet up with a security escort along the way.” They didn’t have time for this! Their spy could already be attempting manual access as this very moment.
