As promised, a message from Admiral Brayden came to the Captain’s desk, indicating that the starbase was initiating a full medical lockdown in one hour, and that all starships were to stay in dock, and to not allow any personnel to pass between the starbase and any of their ships until the quarantine was concluded. He advised the captains to have their medical teams to do a quick symptoms check, but to be discreet. The disease in question had a low transmission rate, with mild presenting symptoms - but it could prove fatal if it wasn’t treated within the week of infection.

The channel was technically open - all of the recipients of the message could see who else the Admiral had contacted - but the clearance level was O-6 and above for full details. The Admiral had actually given detailed clearance levels below that - medical department clearance for the infection name and identifying markers with strict instructions not to inform the rest of the crew, security department clearance for quarantine enforcement, engineering department clearance to put propulsion systems to idle - which helped provide protocol clarifications even before the question was asked. However, save for the Sentinel’s XO, nobody below Captain’s rank on any of the other ships had authorization to know the full contents of the Admiral’s message.

Whether this plan would allow the Sentinel crew to catch a spy would have to prove itself later.

Rende made sure that the orders were sent out to the appropriate department heads. Then she went onto the bridge.

A moment after taking her seat Lt. Kreed’s voice came over the ship’s comms. [O] Attention all hands, this is the Chief Medical Officer. At the order of Star Fleet Medical, we are now under a medical quarantine. All personnel are to report to their quarters and remain inside until seen and examined by medical staff. All Department Heads are hereby instructed to keep only essential personnel in their departments and to close access to all non-department personnel until cleared by Medical. All departments acknowledge, please. [C]

“Alright, you heard the doctor. Lt. Ra’Ti, you’ll stay here to man the bridge.” If things went bad up here, Ra’Ti was who she wanted with her. “Everyone else lock your duty stations and report to quarters.” Asam looked around as everyone did as ordered. “You too Rand,” she said quietly. The Yeoman nodded and filed into the lift with everyone else.

“What? Everyone else gets to gobtake a nap andbI’m stuck at work?” the Tactical Officer said with a mock-glare. “That’s some bulls#!t. I’m calling my Uniion rep.” he added while making sure everything on the bridge was secured and rhe ship’s weapons were sealed off to anyone besides him and the CO.

Asam’s brown went up and she grinned, but she managed not to laugh while everyone else was on the bridge.

Accessing a computer terminal she composed a brief secure message to Kreed indicating Officer she’d assigned to tasks and where they would be.

[O]Sickbay, this is the bridge. We’ve cleared everyone to quarters except a skeleton crew. We will remain here until Lt. Kreed clears us.[C]

Cpt. Asam, CO

Ra’Ti looked around the bridge, empty save for the two of them. He then looked at Asam and grinned. “So… however will we pass the time?”

Ra’Ti, Tactical

“If we were off-duty, I would suggest an old Earth game called, ‘Never Have I Ever’. But I don’t drink on duty. Whatcha thinking?”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Ra’Ti shrugged. “We can put the drinks on a tab. Next R and R we pay up. So how do you play?” and he took a seat in the First Officer’s chair and stretched his legs out.

Ra’Ti, Tactical

Rende liked how he didn’t even ask what was going on, he just went with it, like this was an every day thing to get stuck on the bridge with the captain. “The premise is to start with the phrase ‘Never Have I Ever,’ and then state something you’ve never done. But you want to trip up the other players. Something tmyou think they have done. If they have, then they take a shot.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam arched an eyebrow at her. “Really? You have like a thousand years on me. You are gonna have done almost everything…” but then he grinned. “But I think I can get imaginative and get at least enough to get you drunk… in the future of course. Not now. ‘Duty’ and all. Ok. I’ll go first, just to see if I have this right. So… Never have I ever… been locked on the bridge alone with a superior officer.”

Ra’Ti, Tactical

Rende laughed, and grabbed a PaDD and scrawled their names across it. She hummed as she thought. “Hmmm…yeah…no. Nope, that wasn’t the bridge, so nope never done that.” She grinned. “Never Have I ever broken a bone doing something stupid.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam sighed. “Really? You’re going that lame? Mark me down for a shot.” and he thought a moment and then said “Never have I ever broken a bone doing someone stupid.” and he laughed.

Ra’Ti, Tactical

Rende laughed, “Hey, you said I’m old. There isn’t much I haven’t done.” She put a mark on the sheet for herself, “including that.” She tapped a finger on the arm of her chair. “Never Have I Ever gone hunting in the nude.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“Whoa. Time out.” Ra’Ti said with a laugh. “You’re gonna have to be a lot more specific. Hunted an animal? No. Hunted for the fastest way out when her husband came home early? Absolutely.”

Ra’Ti, Tactical

“Hunting prey, Lt. Not being the one hunted,” Asam clarified with a chuckle. Her eyes dropped to the control panel on her chair for a moment and then scanned the bridge glancing at the panels for any alerts.

Cpt. Asam, CO

“Ah. In that case I am afraid I do not owe you a shot.” He looked at her and then said “But that is a story I want to hear at some point.” He thought for a minute and then said “Never have I ever had to flee a ship in an escape pod.” As he asked, he tapped the chair display and looked at the quarantine reports to see where on the ship was locked down and where was still active.

Ra’Ti, Tactical

Rende made a tally mark, while watching the Engineering display. She could still feel the humm of the engines. They should be shutting down soon. A moment later, the constant vibration slowly faded, leaving behind a ghostly silence. “Guilty of that one,” she made a mark and hit the comm button on her chair, [O]Security, confirm airlocks are sealed and secure.[C]

[O]Morgan here Captain. Confirmed.[C]

[O]Transporter Rooms 1 and 2. Confirm Quarantine protocol.[C]

[O]Transporter Room 1 confirmed Captain. Systems powered down.[C]

[O]Transporter room 2. Quarantine protocol enacted, Captain.[C]

Rende flipped the system off with a firm mod to herself. “Alright,” she said turning back to Ra’Ti, “Never have I ever started a riot.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

He laughed out loud and ticked a mark for himself. “And that is a story for when we are drinking these shots.” He thought for a second and then said “Never have I ever been elected to public office.” and his eyes narrowed as he looked at her with mock suspicion.

Ra’Ti, Tactical

Rende shook her head, “Nope. Appointed, but never elected. Though I did lose an election once.” She laughed at that memory. She glanced at the panels again, eyes narrowed. She was keenly alert. She got up and walked over to the security console. “Never have I ever won a companion on a bet.” With a few quick flicks of the controls, the internal security vids were pulled up on the main viewer, scrolling through the various parts of the ship, watching the quarantine take place. She returned to her seat.

Cpt. Asam, CO

Ra’Ti shook his head and then said “Never have I ever been won as a companion on a bet.” and he laughed.

Ra’Ti, Tactical

The captain’s eyes twinkled and made a hash mark on the score sheet. “That’s a conversation for another time. Never have I ever shot myself with my own weapon.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“You suck, Cap’n.” and he made a has mark on his side. “And no, I’m not saying how.” He thought for a minute and said “Never have I ever got lost on my own ship.”

Ra’Ti, Tactical

Rende grinned, “Now I know I want to hear that story.” She laughed softly. “You gotta be more specific. A ship I captained or owned, or just a ship I was on? If the former, no. If the later, yes.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“If you were assigned to it or worked on it, it’s yours.” Xam said. “So we’re gonna go ahead and say you need another mark. And no more legal loopholes trying to get out of me drinking you under the table. It’s unbecoming.” and he grinned. “Your turn.”

Ra’Ti, Tactical

“I was a passanger for clarification, but I will take the mark.” She added the tally to the sheet. Then she stared at him and grinned. “Never have I ever tried to get my Captain drunk in purpose.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam moved very slowly in setting the stylus down. “Nope. Never tried. Ha ha, take that.” He looked around for a second in thought, then he grinned. He looked at her and said “Never have I ever lied about my age.” and he started laughing.

Ra’Ti, Chief Tactical Officer

Rende glared at him, “That’s using privileged knowledge Ra’Ti.” She made a mark on her column and then looked at the security feeds. She watched it intently for long moments. “Anything look off to you?”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam watched the vids for a several moments and then said “Yeah, actually. What’s with all the activity around Stellar Cartography?”

Ra’Ti, Chief Tactical Office

“There was an unauthorized access to the database and secure files from the lab.” She tapped her controls and beside the feed of the Stellar Cartography lab was a half complete medical/security report. “Shortly after NE Piccoli was found. It looks to be that he was assaulted.” She leaned towards him and whispered, “We have a spy on board.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam did some quick mental gymnastics and said “So either they released something on board, or the quarantine is a ruse to keep them here.” He thought for a moment and then said “Medical quarantine… ah… you can take blood samples for ‘testing’. Match it to the crew medical records and then you have your spy.”

Ra’Ti, Chief Tactical Officer

Rende tapped a finger to the tip of her nose with a knowing smirk. He was smart, but she knew that. “So now, we have a potential epidemic on our hands, and everyone must be tested and then treated and quarantined to stop the spread and the loss of lives.” She looked at the internal sensor scans, “So, what is out of place?”

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam looked at the sensor and systems status readings and said “Well… why do we still have a crap ton of personnel out of quarantine? And why are impulse engines on idle? All non-essential systems should be off-line. Cartography is non-essential because we are docked.” He paused for a moment. “Wait. The spy accessed cartography? Why? Ninety-nine percent of that information isn’t even classified. Can’t be, for navigation purposes. The only stuff that doesn’t show up in the general database are systems that contain strategic assets and that have no indigenous or civilian populations. So why go there?”

Ra’Ti, Chief Tactical Officer

Rende moved over to the security console and pulled up the alert. “That might be why. It looks like the person accessed the general database and then tried to use that to access more classified data. They tried to piggyback in. But the system locked them out, and sent an alert when they continued to try and strong arm there way into the files.”

“As for the excess personnel. Security and medical are sweeping and checking everyone. Should be 3 man teams. Guards at the airlock, one or two people in engineering to maintain systems. Then of course we have that cluster by Stellar Cartography.” She tapped a line figure in auxiliary control. “That is En Kovan, working a special assignment.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“And you know Kovan isn’t the spy how?” Xam asked flatly. He wasn’t doubting Asam’s abilities, far from it. “I ask because if this spy got on board and we don’t know who they are, then they are obviously impersonating someone who was on board before.”

Ra’Ti, CTO

“Well one, En Kovan has been on the ship for almost two years. Also the Admiral says he was spotted boarding the Sentinel after we docked. He’s Romulan, posing as a Vulcan. Kovan is Andorian.” The captain inserted a data disk into the computer from her pocket and pulled up the footage the Admiral had shown of the man passing through the airlock. Only the back of his head. “Of course he could not be Romulan at all and it’s all masks under masks. Kovan shares a very similar history to ours.” THen she shrugged, “I don’t really know, but for the moment I must start somewhere and proceed as if the Admiral’s intel is correct and he boarded before any of our crew left the ship.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“So why don’t we do a sensor sweep for Vulcans and Romulan life signs?” Xam asked. “If he is posing as crew, he’ll be in quarantine. He can’t tell we are only looking in those areas. Or he’s hiding somewhere hoping we miss him; in which case you found your spy… right?”

Ra’Ti, Chief Tactical Officer

“A third of the crew is Vulcan. It’s a good place to start though. We also don’t know for sure the spynis Romulan. He or she could simply be posing as such, and you and I both know there are ways to fool sensors. But let’s start with that.”

Cpt. Asam, CO

“Sensors, sure.” Ra’Ti said and then smiled a wicked grin. “But not blood and DNA.” and he chuckled. “Think the new CMO would be averse to grabbing blood samples and running a comparison to the personnel records?”

Ra’Ti, Tactical

“You and Kreed are dangerous. That is exactly what he’s doing. Hence the medical quarantine. The virus can only be confirmed by blood test. His idea.” She would laugh if the situation weren’t so serious. “The thing is, why Sentinel?”

Cpt. Asam, CO

OOC: Just popping in this thread to apologize for my ridiculously long absence, but also to put in my two cents. From my understanding, Sentinel was basically just the starship docked at the Starbase closest to where the spy transported on board, changed appearances, and disappeared from active Security footage. However, feel free to speculate as to Sentinel’s importance to Starfleet’s home mission.

OOC: rubs hands together gleefully Thanks Nick!

Cpt. Asam, CO

Xam thought for a minute and the said “Well… we explore, right? And he went to Stellar Cartography. Maybe we went somewhere he has an interest in and there was no other place to get the information.”

Ra’Ti, Chief Tactical Officer

While they continued to talk, Rende watched the internal security vids on the main viewer, scrolling through the various parts of the ship, watching the quarantine take place, looking for anyone who seemed put of place.

“Ra’Ti, run the internal sensors for Vulcan a d Romulan life signs.” She hit the internal comms linking to deck 9 where she could see her Chief engineer by Stellar Cartography, [O]Chief Johansson, why are systems not being cycled down? Is there a problem down there?[C]

Bump for GM
Do they see anything on the security feeds?
