A visual would show that the laceration was already starting to bruise along the edges, but that the cut was clean instead of jagged. The tricorder scans showed that the injury was due to a hard edge instead of a sharp edge, and had actually damaged bone and brain tissue, as well as both dermal and sub-cranial blood vessels. With current technology, the injury could be easily treated in Sickbay. However, it was still fatal if untreated; were this only 300 years prior, the damage could have been lethal, given the limitations of medical technology in the 20th century.

The tricorder also identified some material residue from the cut on the NE’s forehead, although they were generic enough that it would take a forensics investigator to determine a more specific origin.

Quinn kept her voice calm though inside she was furious at the state of NE before her, “Her injuries are severe and we need to get her to Sickbay sooner than later,” ((OOC: Do hover emergency beds exist or am I wrong Era for that?)). “Let’s get her to Sickbay and please remind me to send a copy of the scans to forensics.”

OOC: The GM can correct me if I’m wrong, but all references to hover-tech are 24th C. They do have site-to-site transportation if needed. But I might have an easier option care of my character’s higher home gravity. But I will edit if this doesn’t work.

“Her cervical is clear, I can carry her if you can take this for me,” Leah said, holding her bulky medical kit out to Kindle. She looked over her shoulder at Whistle. “Ensign, call for security, now,” she ordered. “And wait here for them to take your statement.”

Though she was quite short, Leah also had a denser muscle mass that she worked hard to maintain for exactly these sorts of scenarios. So it was with little effort that she very carefully scooped up the fallen ensign and cradled her against her body. “Sickbay is only three decks up. Ready when you are.” It made sense for Kindle to clear the way and operate the lift. It would take little extra time and she could move quite fast and still not jostle her patients. This was not her first foray as Human Stretcher.

OOC: I don’t recall seeing hover tech on Discovery S1 or S2, and haven’t seen any in what little I’ve watched of Strange New Worlds (the Lower Decks crossover aside). Manually lifting the NE might be a little reckless compared to just waiting for a gurney, but turbolifts are a wonderfully useful tool.

Quinn accepted the medical kit from Leah without hesitation and settled it with her own over her shoulder as she made ready to help steady NE Piccolo in Leah’s arms. Once she was certain Leah was ready she turned and headed for the lift, as it opened, she saw several security members exiting, “Stand aside please we don’t want to jostle the injured more then needed.” Her tone firm as she spoke keeping her pace brisk as she stayed ahead of Leah.

Once Leah was inside the lift she took the controls, “Sickbay.” She said then looked to Leah, “Are you alight holding her or do you want me to help?”

“I’ve got her,” Leah said. “Thank goodness for growing up on a higher gravity world.”

Once NE Piccolo was on a biobed in the surgical room - the cranial repairs required were decidedly not outpatient surgery - the surgical equipment started to activate. Tools for healing the brain, the skull, and the broken skin were readily available, as well as receptacles for any debris in the exposed wound.

Kreed stepped through the decontamination field and stood next to the bed looking at the scans. “Alright, full surgical team. We have a TBI with internal bleeding. First we handle the bleeding, then we repair the brain tissue.” He looked down into the wound and nodded once. “Let’s begin. Administer anesthazine with four parts O2.” and he began to clear the wound while looking for foreign matter.

Leah was not a surgical nurse but her experience in the ER allowed her to help however they needed. She was prepped and ready for instructions, but kept out of the way to the two doctors.

The sedative slowed the bleed, although it visually seemed to accomplish little else. With NE Piccolo unconscious, her heart rate and brain activity were already slowed. One concerning status - Piccolo’s brain scans were not showing any indications of REM patterns, and her eyes under her eyelids were completely still. However, the scans did not show anything life-threatening beyond the brain bleed. With the tools at hand, healing NE Piccolo would not be necessarily difficult or time consuming, just complicated.

As they cleared the wound, the medical team encountered only one kind of foreign matter, but there were multiple fragments of it. The debris in the wound was dark and hard - but slightly softer than human bone. Further materials analysis would be required to perform a full forensic analysis, but to the naked eye, it looked similar to the casing on a portable data storage device. The blood on the fragments would affect some of the chemical analysis; the variation would be easy to isolate if a skilled forensics expert handled the testing.

Kreed carefully removed all the foreign material and made sure to keep it separated from everything else. “Injury cleared. We’ll address the bleed now, and then the fracture. Please monitor for any brain edema and keep close watch on brain activity.” he said calmly as he began to use the surgical suite to find and seal the source or sources of the bleeding.

Once the bleeding was stopped, Kreed waited a few minutes to ensure that all sources had been found and closed. He then placed the osteoregenerator on Piccolo’s skull and set it to begin the process of rebuilding the skull fractures. As he did, he kept close and meticulous record of the injuries so that forensic analysis would be able to determine the direction of the blow and, potentially, what object was used.

When Kreed was finished with the surgery he would have a priority message waiting from Admiral Brayden. The messages was compartmentalized and restricted to individual departments. His access code would reveal that the a medical quarantine was being issued for the starbase and all docked ships. The disease in question had a low transmission rate, with mild presenting symptoms - but it could prove fatal if it wasn’t treated within the week of infection. It also included the infection name and identifying markers with strict instructions not to inform the rest of the crew.

Kreed nodded to himself and began the process of establishing the medical quarantine, starting with shutting off access to all transporters and exterior hatches. He tapped the comms and said [O] Attention all hands, this is the Chief Medical Officer. At the order of Star Fleet Medical, we are now under a medical quarantine. All personnel are to report to their quarters and remain inside until seen and examined by medical staff. All Department Heads are hereby instructed to keep only essential personnel in their departments and to close access to all non-department personnel until cleared by Medical. All departments acknowledge, please. [C]

[O]Sickbay, this is the bridge. We’ve cleared everyone to quarters except a skeleton crew. We will remain here until Lt. Kreed clears us.[C]

Kreed’s terminal pinged with a brief secure message to Kreed indicating officers she’d assigned to tasks and where they would be.
