“In part,” Leah said with a nod. “I am duty-bound to ensure that there are no traumatic barriers to service, but more than that I’m trying to understand how you process events. How your emotions work for you. Because I can use all my knowledge and experience to assess you, but if I am evaluating you using an inaccurate metric, then that does us both a disservice.”

Kreed nodded and said “That is a very thorough approach, Lieutenant.” The doors opened and he stepped onto the bridge.

Yes it was, and it was nice to have that fact acknowledged. Some doctors accused her of wasting time and spending too long on details they thought didn’t matter. Because of course they knew better than her because they were doctors and she was a nurse. A nurse practitioner, but woe be to her if she dared point that out. It didn’t matter that she had a doctorate degree in nursing.

Looking around, he nodded to the Captain and First Officer. “It looks like much work has been done.” he said slowly looked around. He ran his fingers along the edge of the communications station. He looked back at the Command team. “Ensign Jelys?” The Captain took a breath and then shook his head. “They did not recover from their injuries, I am afraid.” Kreed nodded and looked at the station. “I hope the care they received did not prolong their pain.” Kreed said softly.

Kreed

Leah surveyed the bridge and glanced at the command duo and Kreed. “I’m sorry for your loss,” she said with full sincerity. Hart knew what it was like to lose a colleague in the line of duty. More than one actually. But this situation was a lot more… involved than the ones she had been in.

She glanced at the Captain. “You said you had a surprise for him?” she said, rather curious.

The Captain nodded and looked at the XO who nodded once and left in the direction of the Conference Room. He came back a moment later with a small box. He handed it to Kreed, who opened it and took out a small model of the Taliskar. Kreed looked at it for a moment inn silence. The Captain said “It’s made from scrap from the ship. The Engineers made it for you. And this-” and he turned and picked up a black case with a long strap on it, “- is from the Medical staff. It’s a prototype Medical tricorder designed by a joint Tellerite and Vulcan team. They said you would know the significance of that.” Kreed took the tricorder and his mouth opened slightly and his large black eyes took in the device. “It’s the latest advancement in diagnostic technology in the past fifty years…” he said softly. “The first that ties remotely into a ship’s Medical database. No More programming and updating. It’s always current in data and diagnostic parameters.” he said almost breathlessly. He looked up and did something wholly uncharacteristic for the Saurian… he smiled. “Thank you, sir. And please thank the Engineering staff and the Medical team. I will keep these with me wherever I go.”

Kreed

She watched no only his reaction but also how the crew reacted, observing their rapport and care. The smile surprised her, though it never appeared on Leah’s face. She did, however, smiled herself. “You’ll have to show me the new upgrades,” she told Kreed. “But for now, is there anywhere else you want to go?”

~Leah Hart, NP

Kreed looked at the two objects for a long moment before looking back up at the Captain and XO. “Again, thank you. And I very pleased at the repairs and recovery of the crew. Please extend my thanks to them, sir.” He turned and looked at Hart and said “Yes, one last place.” and he turned and led her off the bridge.
