Leah poured some coffee and returned, taking a bite of the handheld version of the pastry. It was flaky and buttery and oh so good! She sighed happily as she chewed and swallowed. “These are so good,” she said, her Spanish accented voice deepening. “I might even trust you to make my favourite recipe my abuela makes. I’m Leah Hart, by the way, the new nurse practitioner.”

((OOC: here’s the list of what she made platter of freshly made croissants traditional butter, vanilla bean cream filled, cinnamon and sugar and andorian chocolate filled. She also set down a platter of Kouign-Amann, it was a puff pastry that was like eating a salted caramel croissant. It was a favorite of hers and she was hoping to get a few other crew members to like it enough, to make the four and a half hours of work on the pastry to be worth the effort. There was a pot of tea for those that preferred that with breakfast. She was enjoying a peppermint filled hot chocolate for herself. There was also various juices and other drink choices spread on the table.))
“I love learning new recipes, my name is Quinn Kindle, medical officer by profession, chef for fun, hobbies depends on whose asking.” Quinn said with another cheekily playful grin as she gave a salute with her cup of hot chocolate and peppermint before she took another sip and then another dainty bite of her buttery croissant.

Medical officerLeah mirrored Kindle’s grin and she took a sip of her coffee, it’s warmth seeping into every cell. It would be a bit before it rubbed away the edges of her deep fatigue, but she was grateful for the soothing drink to go along with the lovely pastries. For a moment Leah was lost in just trying to push away her tiredness but she looked up Quinn again and smiled. “My cooking skills are improving but only because my abuela had been teaching me. I’m not a chef by any stretch of the imagination though. I much prefer the role of sampler,” she said with a light laugh.

“Ha so I migh’ be asking ye fo’ yer taste testing skills when I try new recipes?” she said with a delighted smile and set down her mug of peppermint hot chocolate, “I have this one recipe I’m trying to get the balance just right, triple chocolate rum with fruit on the side, I usually pair it with pears, peaches or strawberries,” she offered the basic details of the dessert as she took another dainty bite from her croissant.

USS SentinelLeah broke into a wide grin. “So you’re flavouring the rum and drinking it? And dipping the fruit in? Call me intrigued, it sounds interesting,” she said. She was known to enjoy a night out dancing and drinking. Given how intense her work could be, she needed night’s like that to blow off steam and just have fun. Some people were under the misconception that a therapist wasn’t capable of fun, but they would be wrong. Leah was always up for a party, but her impression thus far on the ship that what she considered a fun night out and what was available here were vastly different. She was trying to not be disappointed, but this was the reality of uprooting her life. Everything had changed. It was going to take time to figure it all out.

Quinn blinked and shook her head laughing softly as she realized that she didn’t say one word and that changed the whole context of her description. “Let me rephrase that, Triple chocolate rum cake with fruit on the side.” She was blushing slightly as she realized her mistake. “I do know how to flavor liquor but I only do that for very special occasions. I am pretty proud of my chocolate liquor truffles.”

USS SentinelLeah grinned. “You know, I’m a fan of rum and I definitely want to sample this cake of yours. So anytime, hit me up,” she said before taking a sip of her coffee. The conversation was lovely and it was starting to shake off the weariness that dogged her right now.
“How long have you been on the Sentinel?” Hart asked.
~Leah Hart, NP
“Count yourself snagged for taste testing next week then.” Quinn retorted with a smile. She sipped her peppermint hot chocolate and shook her head softly, “About a week I still haven’t finished unpacking but that is more I am not sure of where I want to put everything yet.” It had taken her longer than she liked to admit for deciding what colors to put where.
