The captain laughed heartily at that. “That is what they say.” She finished her drink. “These were wonderful, Lt. Thank you for sharing. I will definitely come back the next time. Unfortunately, I might be the captain, but I’m due on the bridge. Thank you.”

Quinn nodded with a cheeky grin, “Any requests for the next breakfast pastries or do I just go with what I think and see how folks react?” Quinn had enjoyed cooking as much as she enjoyed the conversation with the Captain. She hoped others would join in next time she borrowed the Chef’s kitchen.

“These were all quite wonderful. If you can make Irish shortbread squares, I would be in heaven.” Rende grinned. “Thank you again Quinn. I am sure I will see you again. Have a pleasant day.” Rende cleared her dishes and left for her bridge shift.

Leah passed through the doors a moment after the captain had left, so just missed her. Then again, she was so tired it was just as well as it was likely the nurse practitioner would have accidentally bumped right into her CO and thus cementing her first impression solidly.
She stepped into the the galley and beelined for coffee but immediately smelt that something was different. “Are those pastries?” she said, her eyes drinking in the flaky baked goods that were most decidedly not a part of a healthy diet and at the moment she didn’t care. All her travel to get to the Sentinel had taken its toll and her first day on board had proven long and intense.

“Aye help yerself lass, some are even still warm so mind yerself.” Quinn said with a smile, as she looked at the new Nurse, “Yes I know I am going to get notes about calories, I won’t make these more than once a month or so unless requested otherwise by popular vote.” Or if the Captain said the crew was threatening mutany if they gained too many pounds. She would be careful, mostly.

[[Medical officer]]Leah laughed. “Oh, you won’t get any complaints from me, that’s for sure,” she said as she grabbed a small plate and a couple of the kouign-amanns.” While she had spent most of her time on Earth in San Francisco and Spain, she had ventured around and France had been an easy place to explore. “It’s been awhile since I’ve had these. Did you make them?”

“Aye, the Kouign Amann and all the rest got ideas for another batch for next month, so if you want anything specific let me know so I can add it to the list.” Quinn said with a delighted and cheeky smile. She picked up a croissant and took a dainty bite chewing carefully before she took a sip of her hot chocolate.

Leah poured some coffee and returned, taking a bite of the handheld version of the pastry. It was flaky and buttery and oh so good! She sighed happily as she chewed and swallowed. “These are so good,” she said, her Spanish accented voice deepening. “I might even trust you to make my favourite recipe my abuela makes. I’m Leah Hart, by the way, the new nurse practitioner.”
