Leah nodded. [o]And have you experienced any of these symptoms at all elsewhere outside of Sickbay-related situations: racing heart, tight chest and/ or difficulty breathing, hot flashes or chills, trembling or shaking, headaches?[o]

“What has that got to do with anything?” Replied the defensive commander, leaning forward, elbows on his knees. “I don’t have a problem doing my job, if that’s what you’re asking.”

Her gaze was even as he challenged her. [o]I don’t believe I said you did. I am conducting an evaluation, Commander. I need information in order to do that. Now, please answer my question.[o]

Roman shook his head. “I haven’t.” It was a lie, but he didn’t trust the nurse just yet. He wouldn’t risk being taken off duty if he could help it.

Leah made some more notes and then looked back at him. [o]Tell me about your sleep.[o] She would ask for specifics depending on how he answered.

“I sleep fine.” He said. In his file, it stated he took Prazosin nightly to control nightmares, alongside an antidepressant, and, prescribed the day before by Kreed, an anti-anxiety medication.

She didn’t look up from her PADD as she wrote. [o]Bullshit, try again.[o]

“I do!” Roman insisted, shaking his head. “I sleep just fine!” He was going the stubborn route again… Like always.

~ Roman

There was no hint of impatience as Leah looked up and gazed at him deeply. Perhaps the better word was bored. [o]Commander Alden, please don’t insult my intelligence. You know very well, or you should, that I have your medical record right here, and people who sleep fine don’t require a sedative. So how about I rephrase my question? What is your sleep like when you aren’t taking the medication?[o]

Now Roman looked really uncomfortable. “I have had… some issues sleeping.” That was.... Putting it lightly, to say the least. He’d been dangerously sleep deprived when he finally agreed to a medication to help.

~ Roman

She nodded, her expression softening. [o]Say more…[o]

Roman sat quietly for several moments, studying her and saying nothing. “I would sleep.... two or three hours out of the night. And then I would wake up and not be able to fall asleep again.”
